Amoxicillin For Sore Throat

3 nights ago, I suddenly developed chills on my hands and feet; followed by ache and soreness. Seemed like like sore throat, the pain under my left jaw( right side too but not as painful) with tension headache or migraine( I'm a migraine sufferer) took maxalt melt but didn't work. Nausea and acidic stomach. After vomit twice, I took 2 x 500mg Aspro - headache gone after half hour, but nausea and pain under chin and jaw kept me from sleeping. I found some Roxithromycin and took one 150mg tab on the third day. The pain around my neck, and collarbone abated. It's Easter weekend can't see my doctor till next Tue or Wed (another 2-3days). Should I continue taking the Roxithromycin until I see my doc? I also have some amoxicillin but I try not to mix. Thanks

Medications tend to degrade over time and lose effectiveness, which creates the risk of it not completely eradicating the bacteria, which may result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Thus, it would be better to see your doctor for a new supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects of an antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My husband has strep throat. He was prescribed amoxicillin & is on day 5 of taking them. His fever broke but his throats still looks terrible and is sore. He called his doctor today and they told him to stop taking the amoxicillin if it hasn't worked yet and prescribed him a z pack. I'm a nurse and have always been under the impression that a patient needs to finish the complete course of an antibiotic so they don't build a resistency to it. Should he finish the amoxicillin first instead of just stopping abruptly to start the z pack? ## No, one can switch from one to the other, if their doctor instructs them to do so, there is nothing to worry about. white capsule, numbers 93 and 3109 on each end of capsule. This was dispensed as Amoxicillin, but does not look like the Amoxicillin I have had in the past. I was taken Amoxicillin that my dentist Rx to me but its been 3 days now N I have developed a sore throat witch the Amoxicillin is not doing anything for. I have been on amox-clav for 7 days and a few days ago my tongue got sore is this normal. ## Hi Diane, Does your tongue also get a bit swollen as a result of the soreness? After taking a look at some of the side effects for this drug, I do believe it can cause your tongue to be sore: "Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking amoxicillin / clavulanate: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat." Our grandson has been on amoxicillen since Wednesday afternoon for a sore throat. His fever is still 100º and his throat is still sore and swollen. I think he should be feeling better by now. The step test was negative. His Dr is not open on Saturdays. Should we discontinue the Amoxicillin on the possibility that he is allergic to it? His Dad (our son) and our other two children were allergic to penicillin drugs. ## keep taking it till you see your doctor and if he still has a fever take him to the hospital since the doctor is not open but I'm not sure. tell your doctor about it first. I hope he feels better!

Sore throat and swollen glands since Thanksgiving. Took Amoxicillin 7 days, problem resolved but came back few days later with same symptoms plus a sore swollen lump under my chin. Yesterday started Clyndamicin 300 mg 3x daily. Day 2 still having difficulty swallowing and concerned about the swollen lump under my chin??? ## Blood test at lab came back negative for strep throat so doctor advised me to go off Clyndamicin. Recovered from the virur on day 7 by sipping home made soup, whiskey with warm water, lemon and honey and taking a tsp of cod liver oil as couldn't swallow pills. Completely recovered now.
