I have 500mg Amoxicillin capsules for an ear infection and they are pink and blue. Last time I had an ear infection the capsules were red and yellow. I'm wondering if these were a different dosage, its been a few years but I believe they were slightly smaller. I'm hoping the ones I have now are a higher dose because it took a 4 week course to clear it up last time, and now I have a 2 month old daughter and have to stick cotton balls in my ears when she cries or I black out for a second from the pain. Last time my ear drum ruptured, I'm really hoping I've caught this early enough to prevent that happening because that kind of pain was atleast 100x worse than labor. ## Based on the colors which you are describing for the capsules it sounds like you have the Amoxil brand of... ...

How much amoxicillin is safe for a 5 year old at 38 lbs? ## Hi indi, According to the MayoClinic, (if you're intending on using amoxicillin for a typical bacterial infection), the dose for children older than 3 months of age, weighing less than 88lbs is based on body weight and "must be determined by your doctor". However, they go on to note that the "usual" dose is anywhere from 20 to 45mg per 2.2lbs of body weight (per day); to be divided and administered every 8 to 12 hours. You could try to do the math on that in order to get a rough estimate - But ideally, like they said, you should discuss these details with your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps! ...

My son has a horrible cough for days now following an up and down temp. I have a few 500mg of Amoxicillin capsules from my recent dental root canal fun times. Is it alright for me to break the capsule and put a small dosage into his juice/food? He gets bad anxiety at the doctors office I'd like to spare him the upset if it's something I can take care of at home. ## Hello, Ally! How is your son doing? No, that's never a good idea. He may not have an infection, if he does this may not be the appropriate antibiotic to treat it, you could end up giving him too much or too little.. there are just too many risks involved. It would be best to see his doctor for a proper diagnosis and prescription, if necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic and it's ... ...

I took my first dose of amoxicillin at 4pm can i take second midnight before i go to bed and then start regime tomorrow? ## Hi Kennett, The doing instructions for Amoxicillin are largely dependent on the severity and type of infection you have. So unfortunately I can't offer you any specific dosing advice without knowing what type of infection you're taking it for. You may want to confirm dosing and administration details with your doctor if there's something unclear about your regimen. However, as a guideline, the usual adult dose of Amoxicillin for "most types of infections" is 500 mg orally 3 times a day or 875 mg orally twice a day for 7 to 10 days I hope this info helps! ...

I'm sorry that you're ill. No, you should follow the prescribed dosing schedule. It will take several days, usually about 3, before you start to feel improvement from taking this antibiotic. It will not alleviate symptoms immediately. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Doctor gave him 500 mg of amoxicillan 2 times /day, 2 teaspoon(10mg) .His weighs 46 lbs i just think it seems like a lot for hir age please let me know if it's ok. Thank you! ## Hi Inna, According to an article I found on the site for Livestrong, kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old are usually given 80 to 90 mgs of amoxicillin per kilogram of body weight per day. This is supposed to be divided up into two or three doses and is generally prescribed for about 10 days. Hello, I (adult) was prescribed 875MG tablets of AMOX/CLAV - 1 tablet 2x a day for strep throat over a month ago but I am now better. My daughter who is 7 weighs 45 pounds has strep now and I have about 18 Augmenton pills left over. What is the dosage for her age? She has had to take pills in the past and I was going to break them up for the correct dosage but i'm not sure what that is. Her insurance does not kick in until the 1st of the month so if it possible just to give her my leftover meds it would save me a ton of money that I don't really have. If it is not possible then I would of course take her into the Dr. ## Hello, Beth! How is your daughter? I am afraid I may have been given wrong med. Taking it for sore throat. Have weakness and ringing in ears, maybe a side effect? Please help I am worried. ## Please remember that there are no guidelines in the Pharmaceutical industry that says all pills with the same ingredients have to look the same. There are many, many generic and name brand pill manufacturers and the way a pill looks, its color, size, and shape will vary for all of them. Even within a company, each one with vary for each different dosage that they make. The only requirements the FDA has is that they must have unique imprints for identification purposes. I want to know is this another side effect of tis medicine and I stop giving her this medicine? If not, what is the correct dose i Should give her? She is 13 months old and 19 lbs. ## Actually, if she had a throat infection, then those symptoms are most likely from that and not from the antibiotic.
