Hi my son is 6 years old and has pink eye. I took him to urgent care because I couldn't get into his normal pediatrician before they closed for the day. He has also been having pain behind one of his ears/kind of on his jaw line. I told the doctor this and he checked his ears saying he did not have an ear infection but that he believes it could be mastoiditis. This concerns me but the doc acted like it isn't a big deal. He prescribed eye drops for pink eye and amoxicillin 250mg/5ml suspect 100ml and told me to give him 17.5ml 2x a day. He only weighs 46 pounds. I feel like this is way too much for his age and weight. Is this amount too much or is it normal for his diagnosis? Please help! ## You should give him the dosage the doctor has prescribed. Antibiotics are usually dosed a...

80 lb dog = how much amoxicillin? ## I have 250mg Amoxicillin capsules, but my dog only needs 60mg. How would I handle this? Rocky weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I believe I calculated the dose correctly. ## Can the Amoxicillin 400 mg (bmp 196) green tablets be crushed and mixed with food to give to my dog? ## How much amoxicillin tr k clv 500/125 is safe for an 8lb dog? She has skin irritation after her cycle. ## Hello, According to the NIH "The recommended dose of amoxicillin in dogs and cats is 5-10mg/pound" so a dog who is 80 lbs should have 400-800 mg. Since this is such a wide gap I suggest you call into your vet office and see what they suggest, typically if they have your animal on file they will have a good estimate of what they should have. Best wishes and happy holidays.

Hi. My 2 and a half year old son was prescribed amoxicillin by a doctor at the hospital. I know he said to give it 3 times a day but he never stated whether to give 2.5ml or 5ml. It's got 250mg/5ml on the box. How much should I give him 3 times a day? ## I have my son 3 years old He has infections in hear and noses I don' t have the proper Amoxicillin for a kids, so the one I have is 500mg pills Please how you can assist me ## @Vikki, If it's got 250mg/5mL on the box, then my understanding is that this is the standard dosing protocol to take as instructed. However, according to the MayoClinic, "if the child/infant is older than 3 months of age & weighing less than 40 kg (88lbs), the dose is then based on body weight and must be determined by the prescribing doctor....

My daughter was given amoxicillin 250mg/5ml by her doctor for little ear and throat infection. On the second day after taking this medicine, my daughter started losing her voice. Now her voice barely comes out when she tries to talk or when she cries. Also she started getting cough specially while sleeping. I want to know is this another side effect of tis medicine and I stop giving her this medicine? If not, what is the correct dose i Should give her? She is 13 months old and 19 lbs. ## Actually, if she had a throat infection, then those symptoms are most likely from that and not from the antibiotic. The side effects from the antibiotic can include things like diarrhea, nausea and non-allergic skin rash. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. And the dose is based on her weight, so that...

As part of flu, I had congetion with flum accumulation. Tried a course of mild antibiotics 250 mg but still traces of flum used to come out with cough. So I thought of taking Amox-500 mg (it was available at home). After taking tablet I realized that I shouldn't have taken such a strong dose and now I want to stop. Please let me know if this has any side effects or relapse of lung infecton? ## Was an infection confirmed by a doctor? A flu isn't caused by a bacterial infection, it is caused by a virus and antibiotics will not be effective at treating it, or its symptoms. They are only effective against bacterial infections. However, if it was an infection and your doctor told you take the antibiotics for a certain period of time and you didn't, yes there is the risk of the in...

My child is 9 and weighs 55lbs. What is a normal dosage of amoxicillin in pill form? She has strep. ## @Chris, According to the MayoClinic, the dosage of amoxicillin for children weighing less than 88lbs is solely based on body weight and must be determined by their prescribing doctor. However, for adults and children weighing more than 88lbs, the normal dosage is reportedly 250 to 500 milligrams every 8 hours, or 500 to 875 mg every 12 hours - figures that are also determined by the prescribing doctor. Hope this helps! ## I was surprised when the er doctor prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg to my 9-year-old grandson for an ear infection. Usually, they would prescribe the oral suspension. I was just wondering if this is normal?

My daughter is complaining her ear hurts and it is the holidays so the doctors are closed. I have amoxicillin 250 mg that was prescribed to my 2 year old. I know it's an ear infection I have 4 kids so I have been thru this plenty of times. Just not sure of the dosage to give her. ## Hello, Adriana! How are you and your daughter? Has there been any change? It is never a good idea to give a child a medication, unless their doctor approves and has prescribed it for them, at that age, it is dosed according to body weight, and the strength of the infection. Generally 20 to 30mgs per kilogram of body weight, every 8 to 12 hours. My little boy was given amoxilin for ear infection and this is his dosage......600/5ml.....he should take 10 mls twice a day for 10 days.....does that sound about right? ## Hello, Marcy! How are you? At that age, it is dosed according to weight, which for an ear infection is 30mgs per kg per day, so that would be 2,100mgs a day. Usually, it's recommended not to exceed 1,000mgs a dose, but if this is 600mgs per teaspoon, that is likely the closest they can get, without under dosing him, since they have to be sure the infection is eradicated. Please double check with the doctor though, to make sure that the dosage is correct. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What is the proper dose for 4 year old weighing 36 lbs. ? My daughter is 14 yrs old and 120 lbs and 5 ft 9 in. She went to doc this am for strep like symptoms, but it came out neg but doc prescribed liquid amoxicillin (7ml) every 12 hrs. Her throat is feeling worse - could she have the wrong dosage? ## Amoxicillin comes in 125 mg, 250 mg, and 400 mg per 5 cc. The top reasonable dose is 90 mg per Kg, and she is about 55 kg. Amoxicillin is usually given 2 or 3 times per day. So - bottom line I don't think she is in danger of too high a dose. ## @worried, I'm trying to figure out why the doctor even prescribed an antibiotic if the results came back negative for an infection? That just doesn't make any sense logically, unless there's something we don't already know? And with her throat now feeling worse after taking it, I wonde...
