I am taking amox clav 875 mg 2x/day with little to no side effects. If you will take a probiotic (eg. acidopholus) or eat yogurt with live and active cultures when you take this medication (or any antibiotic) you will avoid or significantly reduce the side effects related to the gut, especially diarrhea. The probiotic/yogurt replaces the good gut bacteria destroyed by the non-specific antibiotic. Hope this helps. ## Hello, Iteechum! Thank you for the very helpful post! I'm sure many people will find it useful. I'd also like to add that this can be helpful for women that may be prone to getting yeast infections from taking antibiotics. Are there any questions or comments from anyone? ## I take a probiotic once a day. Can I take 2 pills when on amox clav? I have a UTI infection. #...

Can you continue to take a ProBiotic while taking this medication? ## Many articles I'm reading are stating that it's just as important to take probiotics whenever you're using antibiotics, because antibiotics kill both the bad and the good gut flora that your body needs to maintain good health. My brother has been on this antibiotic now for over 56 weeks. He is getting very ill and we are trying to get them to take him off of it. I thought if on an antibiotic for a long period of time, could make the body resist it if needed in the future. ## Hi Marcy, 56 weeks is a unusually long time to be on any antibiotic in my opinion, seeing as most doctors I've gone to only prescribe a 7-10 quantity for general infections. Also taking antibiotics for this length of time could quite possibly be what's making him feel ill, not only due to potential antibiotic resistant bacteria like you mentioned, or side effects, but also because these types of antibiotics are known to diminish good bacteria as well, whereas the patient may need to take probiotics in order to help replenish what ...

Hi! I went on Amox-Clav because of swollen lymph nodes, but no diagnosis as to why they were swollen. I was on a 7 day course. I had nausea, diarrhea, anxiety, palpitations, low back pain and loss of appetite while on the drug. I finished the course and started to feel better. However, its been 10 days since I stopped taking them and I still get chills, nausea and the sweats every few days at night. Is it normal to still have side effects this long after stopping the antibiotic? I have been taking probiotics to help, but its still not gone. ## Yes, those are normal side effects according to the FDA, and they can linger for several weeks, after finishing your course of treatment. You may also experience dizziness, diarrhea, and stomach pain. How are you doing, now? Has there been any cha...

My family doctor prescribed 4 Amox/K 500-125 Tab to be taken at one time before a dental procedure because of my heart problems. Is this safe to take 4 pills at one time. ## Hi Lois, According to the drug monograph for that 500mg tab, the dosing indications are listed at 1 tablet every 8 hours for 7-10 days. However, on the stronger version of this medication, the maximum recommended dose is listed at 1 tablet of Amoxicillin (875mg) + clavulanic acid (125mg) every 12 hours for 7 - 10 days. Based on that, it sounds to me like you took a few too many at one time. If you start feeling any repercussions from having done that, you may want to look into getting some probiotics. The good bacteria is healing to your gut and also prevents things like yeast infections (which can be a side effect ...
