My wisdom teeth have been coming in and I can't afford a dentist trip right now. And when I eat, food gets stuck up in/under one of my wisdom teeth, thus, causing an infection. My dentist is out of town until Monday and the pain is pretty bad - I see what appears to be an abscess. Can this med be used in the mean time? Additionally, if you do have a dental abscess, this will not help with the underlying problem, so you will still need to see a dentist as soon as possible, or the infection will just reoccur. I have a tooth infection and was given Augmentin and the doctor knows I'm allergic to penicillin. I know there is some forms of penicillin you can take if allergic, would this be one of them? ## There is no Penicillin in this antibiotic, the FDA lists it as containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid and its most common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. I started with a tooth abscess in one of my front teeth where I had a crown/cap put on after a root canal years ago. I can see where food can get under the crown but I also have a swelled throat, neck, and top lip. I have taken Amoxi-Clav 875-125 3 times so far, two yesterday and one today. I am supposed to take them twice a day but I don't feel much better and now my top lip is swollen. When I sleep I wake up feeling like there is a bump in the back of my throat that I cannot swallow nor spit it out. Am I doing the right thing? NO HARM done! ## @Bridget, This is just my own opinion, but unless you have already been diagnosed with a pre-existing heart condition, I wouldn't even think twice worrying about that. The momentary increase in heart rate that's associated with physical activity... even if you are not used to exercising regularly and keeping your heart rate in check, there's usually no harm in something like this/unless you were to inflict it upon yourself in some way, shape, or form. I've been taking 875mg Amoxicillin/125mg Clav for a tooth abscess. My doctor gave me 10 days worth of meds to take twice a day. I've been taking it now for 4days but breaks it down into 3 times a day by splitting the pill in 1/2 which means I'm actually taking a pill and a 1/2. I tried the 1st day and it made me sick so I decided to try it this way but I'm noticing my abscess is not going down it actually got a little bigger.
