can I take amox/k clav 500 mg with losartan pot 50mg? ## I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these medications, though it's always best to double check to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It would actually be far more dangerous to let an infection continue out of control. Is there anything else I can help with?

am taking l tab three times a day to treat a sever dental infection. Is an upset stomach with lots of belching common? also have very tight abdominal muscles and constipation. Oh yes..much back pain. Dose this sound like possible effects? ## The upset stomach and gassiness can be normal side effects, but the constipation and back pain aren't, though it is difficult to guess how any medication will affect any given person that takes it. Have you talked to your doctor about this, yet? ## Yes. went to the Er. Was treated for gastritis (ulcer). They said that this often translates to back pain as well as the other symtons . The constipation was a a non isssue. Stress from the tooth problem and the perscription antibiotic was just to much for my stomach. ## Lee, Gastritis is a bit differ...

how long to be effective ## My daughter has taken 2 doses of Amox-Clav 875...How long before symptoms will begin to deminish? (bronchitis symptoms, diagnosed at walk-in clinic) ## This is actually a question that is very commonly asked about antibiotics. The way it should work is… Once the antibiotic has been started, if it's working, there should be no worsening of the condition after 24 hours of dosing. And improvement should be seen within 3 days (72 hours). Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Augmentin details here. I am self treating a sinus infection. Started with 3 days of Cephalexin which I had from an infected finger. Also have 4 days of Amox from my sister. New job and can't take off to go to the doctor. Can I go from one to the other? Thanks! ## I should have mentioned that neither of the drugs is expired. Thanks for your thoughts! ## You shouldn't, what you really need is 10days worth of one continuous antibiotic. I know it's a pain to take off work to go to the doctor, but it's something that we all have to do sometimes. And, if you don't have enough of one antibiotic to treat an infection, you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, which would make you even more ill and you may end up with a much longer time period off of work, due to being in the hospital. ...

My dentist perscribed Amox Clav 875 mg every 12 hrs and Metronidazole 500mg every 8 hrs for infection. I am having chills, nausia, and feel dizzy. Is this to much antibiodic for one individual? I am alergic to ALL mician groups; would this have an effect with these two pills? ## Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid, are the active ingredients in Augmentin, both it and the Metronidazole are antibiotics. The dosage can vary, depending on the severity of the infection, so if yours was pretty bad, then this dosage and combination is not really surprising. As to the chills, nausea and dizziness, those are not allergic reactions, but they can be normal side effects of these medications. You may also experience diarrhea. If they are too severe and bothersome, you should contact your dentist. Are t...

i still have some medication left from 2010, and wonder if it is OK to take 5 years later. Bronchitas type symptoms. ## Hi Jay, According to two different articles - one from Harvard University and the other from LA Times, many medications remain good for up to 10-40 years past the listed expiration date, depending on the substance and how they're stored. I don't have a complete list of these exact medications, nor do I encourage taking something that's been expired for quite some time, but from what I've read, it does seem to me that the date listed is often based on mere speculation and not evaluated by manufacturers for efficacy past a certain time frame, even if it actually is still ok to take. I have enlargement of lymph nodes, can I use Amox K Clav 500-125? ## @Frank, Even though infections are the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes, it's not necessarily the only cause. For this reason I'd still encourage you to speak with your doctor about diagnosing the cause, before taking an antibiotic (if in fact you end up not needing to take it). In the event that it is an infection, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium (500 mg - 125 mg) does cover a broad spectrum of bacteria, so in my opinion it may be a feasible approach. You can read more on the causes and treatment options for swollen lymph nodes here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003097.htm I hope this helps!

can amox-clav 875 be used for staff infection on the skin? ## Information I was able to gather states that: "Amoxicillin is often the drug of choice for staph infections of the ear, throat and nose, says Rx List. Doctors also order amoxicillin for staph infections of the skin and skin structures, or for lower respiratory infections like bronchitis and pneumonia. For patients with skin infections from beta-lactamase-producing staph, doctors will often order amoxicillin/clavulanate." NOTE: Adults typically take 250 to 500 mg of amoxicillin three times a day, or 500 to 875 mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days, for staph infections of the skin. What are the side effects or problems when using alcohol and dairy products with Amox Tr-K Clv 500-125 mg tabs? ## Hi Robert, Based on my research, there are no drug interactions listed between amoxicillin clavulanate potassium and the use of alcohol or dairy products. So in that regard you should be fine taking the two together in moderation. However, it is equally important to know that these types of drugs can effect each person differently, whereas potential side effects may still arise just from using the medication in and of itself. If you don't know how your body reacts to the combination alcohol and antibiotics, it may be wise to lessen your consumption of it for the duration of your treatment. Sometimes the use of alcohol can increase the drowsiness that is often associated...
