I have a cough, wheezing chest and congestion, I've been taking OTC cold and cough for 3 days with no luck curing this condition. I have some Amox/K Clav 500mg left over form an other infection...will this work on what I now have? ## Hi Mike, I'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. Amox/ K Clav (Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium) will only help if the cough you are experiencing is caused by an upper respiratory infection. You could take the medication, but if it doesn't work the cough probably just needs to run its course. I am taking amox clav 875 mg 2x/day with little to no side effects. If you will take a probiotic (eg. acidopholus) or eat yogurt with live and active cultures when you take this medication (or any antibiotic) you will avoid or significantly reduce the side effects related to the gut, especially diarrhea. What would help nausea from amox/k clav 875? The mild nausea turned up on the second day of taking it. The pill looks to me as though it was designed for a clydesdale horse. I can deal with that, but the nausea's adding insult to injury, in my book. I'm not sure how severe it is, but I've used peppermint oil in the past for a similar situation and got instant relief by putting a couple drops around my neck and/or forehead throughout the day. My husband is wondering if HE can get a yeast infection while taking Amoxicillin/Clavulanate with potassium. Also Wonder why is there potassium in this antiobotic? ## Many antibiotics can cause yeast infections. I wouldn't go so far as to single one out over another as to my knowledge they can all be premature causes of yeast infections depending upon how each individual responds to the drug. Regarding the addition of potassium, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium is actually just a more potent version of the original Amoxicillin. I 'm on treatment with this medication for ten days, after I've been diagnosed Diverticulosis. I have never been allergic to any antibiotics, but my Dr prescribed Betaclav 1000 for my bacterial infection. I've taken 5 already, one in the morning, one at night as instructed. I currently have a bright red, angry rash (very itchy!) on my arms, legs, back, neck, and ears...
