What is the dosage for a 40 lb dog with a severe bladder infection? How long does it need to be taken? ## Hi Bunny, From what I could gather, the standard dose of Amoxicillin for dogs is reportedly 5 mg for every pound the dog weighs [administered every 12 hours], or 10 mg per pound [administered every 24 hours]. I haven't come across any specific details concerning the duration of treatment, but I'd imagine that it would differ on a case by case basis depending on the type and severity of the infection. Nevertheless, I think it would ultimately be your safest bet to have a veterinarian determine which dosing regimen to go by after evaluating the dog in person. Hope this helps! ## My two dogs had a fight , both 130-135 lbs. They both were bit in the leg an head. I put triple ant...

Hello, I (adult) was prescribed 875MG tablets of AMOX/CLAV - 1 tablet 2x a day for strep throat over a month ago but I am now better. My daughter who is 7 weighs 45 pounds has strep now and I have about 18 Augmenton pills left over. What is the dosage for her age? She has had to take pills in the past and I was going to break them up for the correct dosage but i'm not sure what that is. Her insurance does not kick in until the 1st of the month so if it possible just to give her my leftover meds it would save me a ton of money that I don't really have. If it is not possible then I would of course take her into the Dr. ## Hello, Beth! How is your daughter? No, it is never a good idea to try to dose a child with something that was prescribed for an adult. She may not even have an i...

I have a full bottle of these pills and my dog has a bladder infection. He is 126 lbs. Can I give him these? They expire in June so I won't be using them. ## Hi smokey, Based on my research, it should be ok for your dog as long as you're administering the correct dosage. The recommended dosage of Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid is listed at 12.5mg (per kilogram of body weight). That amount is to be taken twice daily for treating most general infections (including UTI's). If you have any other questions pertaining to proper dosing or administration, you may also want to contact a local veterinary office, since they are well versed in this field of study. I hope this info helps and wish your dog a quick recovery! ## Hello, my 10 pound maltese has an ear infection. I have leftove...

I have stomach problem already so I don't know if it is the medicine or not. I guess if it doesn't get better I would call your doctor. ## Yes, this antibiotic can cause nausea as a side effect, along with dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more Amox/Clav details here. You should always double check such an issue with your doctor, to be sure, but as I said, it is a known side effect. What if I take another pill (875 mg) within six hours of taking my first pill - will that be harmful? ## Doubtful, but it probably won't be any more helpful. Why would you want to do this? ## Standard dosing protocol for taking this medication notes that you should be taking 875 mg orally every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days. That said I wouldn't suggest taking it sooner than later, as there will be an increased risk of severe side effects and other related symptoms. Taking more than prescribed at a different time frame could also trigger bacteria to become more resistant to the medication. Other side notes indicate that the every 12-hour dosage interval is associated with significantly less diarrhea than the every 8-hour dosage interval. I hope this information helps!

I was prescribed two amoxicillins for pneumonia. Amoxicillin 500mg and Amoxicillin /K Clav 875-125. Im suppose to take both twice a day and levofloxacin 750mg once a day. Is this too much antibiotics? ## Hello, Ruth! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you're ill. No, multiple antibiotics are often prescribed, in the case of severe infections, to try to get the bacteria under control, so it can be eradicated as fast as possible. You may, however, experience more severe side effects than when taking only one, such as more severe dizziness, drowsiness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No further questions. Thank you for your response and for your care. Im doing quite well considering. Thanks again! ## You are welcome and I s...

Do consider that dosage be too much for someone my size for the next 10 days? ## This is a generic for the antibiotic Augmentin and chest cold is caused by a virus, which would not respond to an antibiotic, so its likely that it has turned into an infection. And yes, that is the usual adult dosage for a severe infection, one tablet every 8 hours for 7 to 10 days. Learn more Augmentin details here. I NEED TO KNOW IF ITS OKAY IF 7 YEAR OLDS CAN TAKE AMOX/K CLAV 500MG Tablets? ## Was it prescribed by the child's pediatrician? If not, then no they should not be given to them. Attempts to diagnose and treat, without a doctor's approval, creates the risk of causing the child to develop antibiotic resistance bacteria. I'm not trying to say this is what you are doing, I just want to make the warning the clear. However, if it was prescribed by their pediatrician, then yes it is a dosage used for children for bad infections. My Bulldog got bitten by another dog on his ear. I'm broke but I have amoxicillin 500mg. And amox TR-K CLV. HIS EAR IS INFECTED WHICH WOULD BE BEST ## Hi Gina, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your bulldog. A bite on the ear sounds pretty gnarly! In my honest opinion it would probably be best to contact a vet and get their approval before giving any sort of medication to your dog. However I don't think it is uncommon to hear about dogs being prescribed amoxicillin. According to standard pet medication dosage charts, the usual dose of amoxicillin in dogs is reportedly 5 to 10mg per pound, taken every 12 to 24 hours. Your local vet should be able to verify this and other pertinent information (including how many days it should be taken for and which type of amoxicil...

Is two (2) teva amoxicillin pills every 8 hours (3000 mgs/day) for acute otitis media (ear infection) considered an overly strong dose ? ## Hello, Peggy! How are you? Twice in the last year I have been prescribed this for a sinus infection. Unfortunately both times i vomited several times a day. Both times doctors called in a different rx. Right now i'm in between jobs and don't have insurance. The rx's are still current and i know i have another sinus infection. If I cut the pill in half, would that help with the vomiting? ## It might, and they can be cut, if your doctor approves. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. However, it is always best to take the full dosage, as the nausea should pass, once you finish the course of the medication. How are you doing? Has there been any change?

My dentist perscribed Amox Clav 875 mg every 12 hrs and Metronidazole 500mg every 8 hrs for infection. I am having chills, nausia, and feel dizzy. Is this to much antibiodic for one individual? I am alergic to ALL mician groups; would this have an effect with these two pills? ## Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid, are the active ingredients in Augmentin, both it and the Metronidazole are antibiotics. The dosage can vary, depending on the severity of the infection, so if yours was pretty bad, then this dosage and combination is not really surprising. As to the chills, nausea and dizziness, those are not allergic reactions, but they can be normal side effects of these medications. You may also experience diarrhea. If they are too severe and bothersome, you should contact your dentist. Are t...

After one tablet of amox-clav 875 mg, I developed shakiness, rapid heartbeat, extreme flushing of my face, and general feeling of fainting. Went to ER and after some treatment, was released. Following days, experienced extreme pain in upper abdomen area. After two more trips to ER, was admitted and underwent battery of test showing gall bladder was shot. Had surgery to remove.
