I have been taking amlodipine for about 3 months. I started on 5 mg then 10 mg. Now back to 5 because of swelling of the ankles. I also have stiffness in the muscles and frequent urination at night which the doctor doesn't think it's the pills, although it started at the same time. Would taking them at night instead of morning help? ## Hello, Jo! How are you? Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and dry cough. However, since it's still continuing this far into taking it, that likely means that these symptoms will not improve and you may need to switch medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

what would be the side effect of S-Amlodipine when i take it for 10 years. ## Virtually all of the medications that are used to treat hypertension and/or cardiac conditions carry possible risks with long-term use. Are regular blood tests being done? That's usually how any problems are found early, so you'll know if you need to try a different medication. Blood tests are done that usually include your a liver and kidney panel. It is rare for it to happen, but these medications may cause some liver or kidney damage. Learn more Amlodipine details here. However, what you also have to remember is, as I said, that risk is very small, so the risk to you is far greater if you would leave such medical conditions run untreated and out of control. How often do you take it?

I was on amlodipine medicine for at least two and half years and I have gone through a real hell. It all started with dry cough. I thought like any other medicine the side effect will wear off, but it didn't. Then after a year later came back pain and it really got worse. I never thought that it was the side effect from this medicine. It went on for two and half years before I realized. I was running around town to get my back pain solved. I must have had more than 50 sessions of physio and chiro. I saw that I wasn't getting anywhere and I started doing some research on computer. After reading so much on this medicine, I went to my doctor and told her to change my medicine. It has been almost three weeks and I already see that there is a big change in my back. Most of the pain i...

amlodipine 10 mg. I was put on this for periodic high blood pressure but I still feel some hypertension from time to time during the day. I am only on it about a week or so, and I see it takes 4-6 weeks to take full effect. Is this a minor side effect or a bad one and does it go away or does it mean this med is no good for me or too early to tell? ## Are you talking about the hypertension during the day? Are you actually checking your blood pressure at those times to be sure? There aren't usually any symptoms felt from high blood pressure, which is why it is often called the silent killer. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

I was taking lisinopril 5mg for high blood pressure and had severe stomach and back pain after taking the med for 3 weeks. My MD switched me to amlodipine 5mg and the same side effects after 2 weeks. Since they are both calcium channel blockers, should I ask for a different class of drug to control my blood pressure? ## Hello, Susan! How are you feeling? These are not both calcium channel blockers, Lisinopril is actually an ACE inhibitor. It is also normal to experience side effects for the first 4 to 5 weeks you are taking a new medication, but they are typically transient and go away with time, once your body adjusts. However, if your pain is that severe, then yes, you may need to try yet another class of medications to lower your blood pressure. One option would be to try one of the ...

Can Amlodipine Besylate 5mg cause you to retain fluid in your feet and legs? I noticed since my Mom started taking this medication, her feet and legs has been retaining lots of fluid. ## Hi Vickie, Sorry to hear about your mom's situation. According to nih.gov, "swelling of the ankles or legs" is listed as a common but potentially serious side effect that should be brought to the doctor's attention immediately. I am hypertensive and diabetic and was prescribed to take amlodipine with metformin. But, since I also have chronic bilateral renal parenchymal disease with nephrolithiases and enlarged prostate, I had to take tamsulosin with acalka also. Doctors say that the first two conditions have to be gone before any progress in the other conditions can take effect. And, the kidney stones, too. ESWL is expensive and I could't work meantime except from home due to the outcrop of side effects -- ex., diarrhea alternating with constipation -- not to mention the attendant pain of having kidney stones inside me and the looming fever that neither burns too hot nor lets me off completely in some eternal purgatory of chilly heat. As to tamsulosin, I have nothing but thanks for being able to urinate natur
