Is there anything else I can help with? ## I live in South Africa and do not know if this will be of any help. I use Amloc, 5mg. Amloc is amlodipine maleate, which does not cause any swelling. after consuming actapin amlodipine 5mg for one and a half month. Can I stopped taking the medication if my blood pressure is under control?? ## The issue is, if the Amlodipine is the only reason your blood pressure is under control and you stop taking it, it is likely going to get out of control again. On top of that, abruptly stopping a medication like this can cause a rebound effect, which could result in dangerously elevated blood pressure. Learn more Amlodipine details here. All of my previous Amlodipine 5mg scripts were a small round blue tablet larger in the middle. It would always begin to dissolve almost imediately on my tounge. My current refill, same pharmacy, is a round white tablet, imprinted with either 866, or 998, or 859, on one side (Difficult to read) & U with a small mark (could be a 1 on the lower right of the U). Wondering if the pharmacy made a mistake or did indeed change suppliers.

I was taking lisinopril 5mg for high blood pressure and had severe stomach and back pain after taking the med for 3 weeks. My MD switched me to amlodipine 5mg and the same side effects after 2 weeks. Since they are both calcium channel blockers, should I ask for a different class of drug to control my blood pressure? ## Hello, Susan! How are you feeling? These are not both calcium channel blockers, Lisinopril is actually an ACE inhibitor. It is also normal to experience side effects for the first 4 to 5 weeks you are taking a new medication, but they are typically transient and go away with time, once your body adjusts. However, if your pain is that severe, then yes, you may need to try yet another class of medications to lower your blood pressure. One option would be to try one of the ...

I have been taking 5mg for seven days only and found myself feeling so lethargic. If I'm to just stop taking this, is it dangerous or should i take half of 5mg to reduce sudden withdrawal symptoms? ## Hello, Karen! How are you? That can be a side effect of this medication, however, if you are treating high blood pressure or a cardiac condition, it is far more dangerous to stop taking it and let them continue uncontrolled. Side effects are typically transient and go away with time, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 5 weeks. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Reading the side effects of Amlodipine seems a bit scary. ## Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it has about the same risk of causing side effects as the Ramipril that you're already taking. However, the most important fact of relevance is that it's far more dangerous to let your blood pressure remain high than any possible side effects you may experience from a medication. Letting it remain high risks damage to your heart, which may be permanent, it also creates the risk of stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and...

My boyfriend recently accidentally took his medicine twice. He takes 5 mg amlodipine once a day he got up early this morning took his meds and then took more 3 hours later because he forgot. Will this hurt him? ## Hi, Kim! Any time that you are worried about the health and safety of a loved one due to taking too much medication, you should immediately call poison control, or seek assistance from your nearest emergency medical treatment facility. How is he doing? Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that's used to help lower high blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions. In reality, taking two tablets of the 5mg dosage wouldn't be an overdose, since it is also available in that dosage, it's just more than he should be taking. What may happen though is that his b...
