Hi...I have been on tramadol for several years for restless leg syndrome and arthritis in my hip... What can i take instead of tramadol that is just as effective. My rls is really bad. My hips also particularly at night. Can you suggest anything i can ask my doctor? I take 50mg every 6 hours or so sometimes it doesnt help. Tysm! ## Hello, Rose! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. Tramadol is very mild opiate, so most others are stronger and would likely help you more, even in low doses. The FDA classifies this medication as an opioid analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there are also higher doses of Tramadol available that your doctor...

I know they took this drug off the market....Is there another drug that would be similar in effect? I used it for knee pain....Tramadol does not work. ## Based on my research, Darvocet-N 50 (acetaminophen + propoxyphene napsylate) is a narcotic (opioid) analgesic combination indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain. So it sounds to me like you're just in need of a similar type of drug combination. Although I'd recommend discussing this with your doctor before having any decisive thoughts, a few other potential brands to consider would probably be medications like those listed below: Percodan (Aspirin + Oxycodone) Percocet (Acetaminophen + Oxycodone) Norco (Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone) Ibudone (Hydrocodone + Ibuprofen) Demerol (Meperidine) I hope this info helps!

What is a good substitute for Darvocet N/100 for treating pain? ## Darvocet contains the active ingredients Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene, it was really the mildest narcotic pain reliever on the market. As to an alternative that might have the same pain relieving properties, have you tried Tramadol? It is not a narcotic, but works very similarly. It is also available with Acetaminophen, under the trade name Ultram. There are some other narcotic+Acetaminophen combinations on the market, but most will be stronger than the Darvocet was, even at their lowest dosages. Here are the links to a couple that you can check out and discuss with your doctor: Does any one else have any suggestions? ## The problem many patients have with Tramadol (ultram) is severe GI upset. I have been taking tramadol for about 2 months they I am now taking about 500 mg at once to help me sleep and it's not working for the pain can i go higher to 600mg ## The recommended maximum daily dose of Tramadol is 400mgs, so you are already exceeding that amount. Learn more Tramadol details here. As an analgesic, it may cause some drowsiness as a side effect, but really isn't meant to assist with problems sleeping, it is usually solely used for pain. Thus, you may do better if you tried an actual sleep aid for that and just this for pain, or an alternative medication for pain. Have you talked to your doctor about the issue? ## I Have been taken Tramadol 50 mg 2 times a day for 3 months now been taken Tramadol 50 mg 3 times a day for 2 months its not working any more should i...

TRAMADOL=DECEPTIVE POISON. this drug is one of the nastier little secrets of the painkiller industry. from my experience it is highly addictive with all the standard withdrawal symptoms plus severe interference with the logical thought processes, more so than other opiates. and to think that this drug is advertised as a safer alternative to other painkillers. I work with numbers as part of my job and I was unable to function once i ran out of my supply early. put myself into a long term suboxone rehab program. am almost ready to "graduate" from the program. (yipee!!!). this nightmare has cost me about $450 a month for doc visits and meds. TRAMADOL = DECEPTIVE POISON ## Sorry about the problem you had from taking Tramadol. And yes, it can be very deceptive. Since it is classified...

Will tramadol help with arthritis? My mother in law has severe pain due to arthritis and we are looking for any suggestions that would help with the pain. Thank you in advance. ## Hi Diara, Sorry to hear about your mother in law. Theoretically speaking, it should help, as Tramadol is regarded as a moderate to severe pain reliever. Whether or not it "will" help is another story. Depending upon your mother in law's tolerance to pain medication, overall severity of pain and other personal factors that play a role, finding the right dosage or treatment option may come down to trial and error, while of course working closely with the prescribing doctor. Has she experimented with any natural alternatives for pain relief?

I was prescribed Tramadol by my primary physician for years. I was in a motor vehicle accident and was rear-ended by a heavy duty truck (cement mixer). It caused severe back pain and sciatica. My pain is constant. I was able to live my life while on tramadol. Then the opioid scare hit and my physician told me she could no longer prescribe them and offered no help to get me of them. Isn't it the obligation of the physician to wean the patient off or offer an alternative? I did not want to take anything stronger because I could not function. My physician gave me the name of a pain clinic but did nothing to assist me in getting an appointment. I called them and the soonest appointment is 2 months out. I have been thru hell going from taking two 50 mg tablets 3 times a day to nothing. I...

Two bottom teeth extracted towards the back ## Hi Tee, From what I could gather, there aren't any drug interactions listed between Ibuprofen and Tramadol. So as far as mixing the two is concerned, both medications are generally regarded as safe to use together. But if you're ever looking for an alternative to ibuprofen, there's also a similar brand I know of called Ultracet that contains both Tramadol and Acetaminophen. Sometimes you can only take so much of a certain medication, where as having a backup option might come in handy if you can get your doctor to prescribe it. I hope this helps! Was there anything else specifically that you had a question about?

Which is better for pain? Tramadol, Hydrocodone apap 5 325, or Tylenol 3? I am on blood thinners ## Tramadol is stronger. I'd research about the blood thinners. Might help to know that Tramadol is relatively new on the market, researchers might not have all of the facts. Ten years ago, the word was that it was NOT addictive. Now we know that it is Still, it is a nice, less ominous, alternative to narcotics. ## Hello, Shelby! How are you? In order of strength and efficacy… Tylenol 3 is the mildest you've listed, then Tramadol, and the strongest is the Hydrocodone/APAP. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?...

Wondering of anyone has found a real way to get tramadol on-line since the new law passed. Not getting answers or responses from any where I used to get it. Anyone???? ## If you want to take the chance, you can find it from one of the on-line overseas pharmacies without an Rx. Is it really worth it though? I would ask my doctor for an alternative medication. ## you can find TRAMADOL in Thailand, a lot of chemist don't sell it, but there are quiet a few that do. hope this answer helps ## @Momof2gloriousgirls, The reason why you may not be getting answers is because ordering Tramadol online without an Rx is considered to be illegal... and it looks like any attempts to post such responses are usually immediately taken down upon notice. I just don't understand why your doctor can...

i am taking tramadol right now and it is not working enough... can i take oxycodone for the same pain? ## Hi Amber, Based on the personal reviews of others, I'd imagine oxycodone to be considerably stronger than tramadol. There have been a number of patients on here complaining that tramadol doesn't do anything for them and even go so far as wondering why it's even classified as a pain killer. I don't know if that's an overstatement since everyone reacts differently to it, but if you have a prescription for oxycodone, it should be a much more potent alternative. Regarding the differences between the two medications you can learn more about them in the links below: Tramadol Details Oxycodone Details I hope this helps! ## Hello Amber I take tremadal n gabapentin 300mg ...

I we recently put on an antidepressant called Brintellix 10mg. However i have been on tramadol 50mg 2x a day for over 2 years and 300mg gabapentin 3x a day for 2 years. As well as norco 7.5 3x day. I've only been on brintellix a week and nervous that maybe that's too much serotonin medicine. Does that make sense? ## Yes, it does make sense and it is a possible risk. Serotonin syndrome can be very dangerous. Have you had any other symptoms aside from the tiredness? The main concern is the Tramadol with the Brintellilx, mixing them does carry a strong warning about the possible dangers and advises that alternative medications be used. ## I take similar meds as you. I have taken Tramadol for pain management for 11 years. My Dr decided to take me off suddenly. I was getting, at the end of 11 years, 90 tablets every other week. This last dose was lower than the 240 I was prescribed in the beginning of the 11 years. I have chronic pain due to my spinal scoliosis. My spinal cord was crushed in half for 6 months before I became paralyzed. This very short condition was fixed immediately. Here I sit with an alternative medicine called subutex. I have not been on Tramadol for 3 months but I still have chronic pain. My knee surgeon today said I have a build-up of scar tissue above my left knee. 2 years ago I had a total knee replacement. Arthroscopic surgery for this condition must be done and healed mostly so that I can have my right knee completely replac...

I'm currently taking 100mg of oxycodoe a day (20mg via percocet and 80mg via oxycontin) as well as 200mg daily of tramadol. I'm taking these as prescribed for chronic pain. My concern is, that after almost 2 years of being on these pain meds with the dosage increasing as my tolerance builds over time, if the Dr's are able to fix what is causing my pain, are there meds that will help ween me off the oxy? I'm terrified of the withdrawls. My second concern is, if they can't fix what is wrong, are there alternative meds for the pain? I can't imagine increasing the doses forever. Any advice would be appreciated. ## Yes, if they can fix the problem that is causing your pain, the medications can be slowly tapered to minimize the withdrawal effects, or your doctors may w...

My Boots pharmacy can no longer get Dihydrocodeine fast and slow acting. Is it available at other pharmacies in Nottingham? I've had to switch to Tramadol long and short acting but the side effects of headaches are exhausting. I'm on day 48 of my current headache. Dihydrocodeine was really good for me. I was able to work and drive with no problems. I have several health conditions that make alternative tablets difficult to take.

I live in Florida and I have a cage in my back for my L1 verabra, 4 screws in my foot, and just have 2 anchors placed in my shoulder for a 75% tear. I have tried to get some pain medication and I'm given tramadole. Waste of a script. It seems like people (Dr) feel like all people are drug seekers and not in chronic pain. Hi, my dog has been suffering severely from an abscessed tooth and we found tramadol to do wonders for him.. Can I take norco 10/325 flexed all 10 mg with a stacker 2 ## Hi Meddie, There are quite a few different pain meds to choose from that are allegedly stronger than Norco (Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen). Oxycodone in my research seems to be the next step up the latter, but some chronic pain patients may feel that Tramadol, Morphine, Opana, or Dilaudid would be better alternatives. I for one have never taken anything other than Hydrocodone and Morphine in the realm of narcotic analgesics, so I can only go off charts on the web and my own experience, which tells me that Morphine provided greater relief than Hydrocodone after a nose surgery I had done several years ago. If you're able to I'd encourage you to talk with your doctor about this just to see what s/he recommends... And as far a...

I have been taking 15 mg of meloxicam for 3 weeks following surgery on my foot for joint pain and inflammation. It has been causing increasing stomach pain so today I decided not to continue with it. My intention was to not limit my mobility during therapy and my recovery period which could take several months to a year. What else could I take without the gastric upset? ## Hello, Fran! How are you? Did you try using an antacid and making sure not to take it on an empty stomach? These measures can usually help limit the gastric upset. Alternatively, you could speak to your doctor about trying something else, such as Tramadol, or Oxycodone, since they aren't as harsh on your stomach.
