i have been taking oxycodone due to a back injury and i was told that it is morphine based, so i was wondering if that was true? ## its in that family, opiates/pain reliever and highly addictive ## Yes, it is related, just like Lisa has stated. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. What dosage has been prescribed? Have you ever taken Morphine? Are you on any other medications?

I take 145mg of methadone daily .my question is this.i just took 60mg of morphine will i feel it i do no other drugs. this is the first time ive used anything but methadone in 2 years ## Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients. There really isn't a direct answer to your question, as no one can tell you how you would react to Morphine. Since medications can affect everyone differently, some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it doesn't work for. I do know based on research that Methadone is considered to be 3-4 times stronger than oral Morphine (oxymorphone). And given the high dose of...

I have several 15 mg tablets of MS Contin. They are 4+ years old. What is the shelf life of this medication? ## From what others have stated, Morphine has an expected shelf life of 2 years. However, there's actually a lot of conflicting information out there around the topic of expired medication. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But t...

QI am looking for a good mild/moderate narcotic for break through pain . I am allready on hydro/norco 10/325 and it only las about 3-4 hours and thenn wears off. Any sugestions. Three bad dis in neck and fibromyagia with severe migranies i think being put out of me out misery would be better lol. ## Hi vonda, Based on your description, I get the sense that you may want to ask your doctor about trying an extended release pain medication, for something that lasts a lot longer than 3-4 hours. A few different options in that category are: AVINZA capsules are a modified-release formulation of morphine sulfate indicated for once daily administration for the relief of moderate to severe MS CONTIN (another variation of morphine sulfate) is an opioid agonist product indicated for the management ...

Can I still benefit from taking 10 year old Morphine Sulfate 20mg/ml oral solution ## Hi Smith! After a medication expires, it lose"s it's effectiveness. Especially after 10 years. what is the difference between a 30mg blue morphin and a maroon 30mg ## Are there any markings on the tablets you are asking about? I can't provide you with any specific information just based on the colors, since they don't actually mean anything. There are, however, several possibilities. They could just be manufactured by different companies, or one may be a time released tablet and the other a regular release formulation.

I take morphine 15mg extended release tabs right now and I normally take 1 Hydrocodone 10-550's but Im out of those right now..Im wondering if taking another morphine would be ok? I took the first one at 8:00am this morning and its now 7 hours later..Im in pain! ## While they do make 30mg Morphine sulfate extended-release tablets, I know that everyone reacts differently to different doses, based on tolerance - So I can't necessarily imply that a higher dose will still benefit you, in contrast to any possible side effects that come along with it. For that reason alone, it would probably be wise to discuss this approach with the doctor who prescribed you both medications, just to be on the safe side. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Morphine Details How long have...

I usually take 1-3 10/500 hydrocodone pills a day. I recently Ran out and have 60 mg morphine. I have never taken morphine pills.. had it iv in hospital a few times. Should I take it to ease the pain or what should I expect. A little nervous.. ## You should only take half or even a quarter, 60mgs of morphine is around 6 times as potent as 10 mg of hydrocodone, and the could be an incomplete cross tolerance effect aswell ## Hi Kole, Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. But because it's your first time taking the morphine pills, I honestly think it would be best to consult with your doctor first, since they also have an understanding of your medical history and what dosage amount might be safest for you based on their professional opinion/evaluation. On the other hand, nobod...

Does smoking cigarettes block your pain receptors and not allow morphine to absorb into the body properly and releave pain and if so why??And if so which is harder for the body to withdraw from? Thanks for any help you can give me ## RE: "which is harder for the body to withdraw from?" I believe the answer to this question is all relative to each individual based on their own unique set of circumstances and health. However I will say that my father used to smoke cigarettes for over 40 years before quitting cold turkey - (he had medical cannabis as a crutch during this time). But from what I witnessed living with him I'd say he probably went through about two weeks of mild cold symptoms before feeling normal. On the other hand I know people who have only been smoking for a fr...

Morphine sulfate oral solution..... 100mg per 5ml How much shoud be taken to ease chronic back pain? ## From what I could gather, patients who have not been receiving opioid analgesics should be started on morphine sulfate in the following dosing range: Morphine Sulfate Oral Solution: 10 to 20 mg every 4 hours as needed for pain. "The dose should be titrated based upon the individual patient's response to their initial dose of morphine sulfate. This dose can then be adjusted to an acceptable level of analgesia taking into account the improvement in pain intensity and the tolerability of the morphine by the patient." I know it's not a direct answer but everyone responds to these drugs differently, so it's probably wise to just give it a trial run at a specific dosage ...

or what kinda of morphine pill has * pms * on one side, & a straight line across on the otherside...i'm just curious! and it (looked pink inside) like the whole tablet is just one colour.... ## Hi Destiny, Based on my research, there are different varieties of the pill you have. I came across a round yellow pill with pms on one side with a score on the other- in addition to the number 4 (which most likely stands for the milligram). I don't know what the strength of your pill is, however I do believe it is Morphine Sulfate SR, which is Morphine Sulfate sustained release. Sustained release is a mechanism used in pill tablets or capsules to dissolve a drug over time in order to be released into the bloodstream at a slower rate while having the advantage of being taken at less f...

Which medication is stronger: 15 mg Morphine ER or 10/325 Oxycodone or Hydrocodone 10/325 ## They are very similar. My doctor has put me on and we've tried to figure out what works. best. I get 10mg Norco & 20mg Oxycodone, and I alternate, it REALLY helps!!! (I have a LOT of medical issues.) ## @birdie, I think as post #1 suggested, you pretty much just have to work with your doctor to find out what best suits your level of pain. Some people debate that oxycodone is a step up from hydrocodone. I think the answer may vary with each individual based on personal preference. And as far as comparing morphine ER to immediate release oxycodone, there's probably no easy way to determine an equivalent dose since one is being slowly released...However if it's of any help, the foll...
