I am 67 and have afib. I am put on eliquis, but ever since I have been on eliquis I am having very bad lower back, hip, shoulder, ankle etc. pain!! I will be having an ablation in the very near future. When my heart returns to normal I will stop eliquis. I will be taking Tattokinase. It is a natural enzyme that gets the job done without the side effects. Please reserch about the benefits of nattokinase on the internet and get educated about it; it would take me too long to explain things about it here. And tell your doctor about it, demand that he would look into getting informed about it instead of pushing dangerous pharmaceuticals on you!! Nattokinase is a very effective blood thinner, it is natural with NO side effects. Since no body makes big money from it, it is discouraged by big ...

I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...

I have been experiencing joint and muscle aches. Also a loss of memory and totally can't smell. Also things don't taste as good. I am on neurontin as well. That maybe together with eliquis is causing this lethargic and dizzy feeling. I had a really bad cough. I went into AFIBULATION and that is the reason for all these meds. ## Hi I Have Been Taking Eliquis For About A Week Now. What Will Happen If I Can't Take It ## Those can be normal side effects of Eliquis, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Michelle, you should take it, as long as your doctor directs you to do so. If you don't like the way it affects you, you could speak to them about possibly trying a different medication. However, skipping doses ...

Hello - my dad was treated for prostate cancer 5 years ago via radiation and is in remission. He also is dealing with atrial fibrillation and is taking eliquis to counteract this. However, he recently has been bleeding quite a lot / passing blood in his urine / passing bloodclots and just had to have a transfusion to fight against the blood loss. The doctors are trying to find a remedy to stop this bleeding (they have said that around 5 years post prostate radiation treatment blood in your urine and clots can occur). The main issue is that my dad does not want to stop his eliquis in fear of a stroke and obviously wants to cease the non stop bleeding he is passing through his urine. Has anyone else experienced this? Prostate cancer with bleeding years later / A-fib / eliquis where they h...

began taking Eliquis in May after an AFib episode. After about 2 weeks I began experiencing what feels like habitual anxiety and muscle problems. Am currently experiencing headaches, being light headed and dizzy. I had several times initially when taking the medication when I thought I was going to have a blackout. ## Hello, Tessa! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the problems you've had. Those can be side effect of Eliquis, many have complained about similar problems. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication. ## I have suffered from the side effects of Eliquis after a slipped disc that required surgery. My lower back is in pain, and I have a ge...

I am a 76 year old man with afib. My EP suggested Eliquis and gave me a 30 day free sample. I have used it and am on my first 90 day refill. After reading all of the comments on this web site I was reluctant to try Eliquis. As of now I have had no side effects. I am about 5' 10" and weigh 215. I spend 20 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes in an exercise routine daily. If I notice any adverse side effects as time goes by I will repost on this site. ## Hello, Newport Jim! How are you? Thank you for the helpful post! Not everyone has problems taking Eliquis, it's just that those that day are usually the ones hunting up a site like this to discuss the problems. The millions of people that take any given medication, without a problem, are rarely online discussing their posit...

I was having extreme fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness after starting Eliquis and started to having black stool with nausea and abdominal pain. I gradually reduced the dose until no longer taking Eliquis nor ever will. It really put a fear in me. Asprin works for me via my AFIB. I can tell if my blood is too thick when my heart is working hard to pump the blood out of my heart. I feel much better when my heart is pumping normally when the blood is thinner. You sometimes have to insist to your doctor the side effects you are feeling, this is a fairly new medication. Anyone else have these side effects? ## Yes, you are not the first person to post about these types of problems with it. If the Aspirin is working well for you, then it is likely a good idea to stick with it, unless your d...

I have been on Eliquis for 4 months now for afib. Have only had one episode of Afib. have a cardiologist that doesn't listen. He's just a drug pusher and wants to do ablations. So I don't bother with him. He just turned me back over to my nurse practitioner anyway. I am wasting away on this eliquis 2.5 mg twice a day. Can't gain weight. Most people gain. Not me. Suffering all over body pain. Memory problems. Nausea. Hair falling out. Weak. No motivation. Think it's messing with my blood pressure. Sometimes sweating and fever. I looked up side effect. Drs won't even listen about side effects. Just want to push more pills. I don't sleep well. Hardly slept last night. This stuff can also affect the liver since most of it goes through the liver. I want to hear fr...

I have Afib and was on warfarin for 5 years. Got tired of keeping up with Vit K so went on Zarelto. My fingers on my right hand after about a week swelled up and hurt and so did my right arm. I called doctor and he put me on Eliquis, I've got no better, infact now it's in my left hand too. Anyone had any problems with joints swelling with Eliquis. I could use information on how long this swelling will last after getting off either of those drugs. Thanks so much Belle ## Hello, Belle! How are you doing? Has there been any improvement, yet? That's not something listed among the typical side effects, according to the FDA. It has been known to cause edema, but usually of the feet and ankles. Many people have had it cause severe joint pain, which forced them to switch to a differ...

My boyfriend began taking Eliquis in March for AFIB. (He is 68.) Right away he wasn't himself. He gets short of breath dozens of times a day now when he didn't before. Even going upstairs is a problem. He needs to exercise because of his peripheral arterial disease, and he can't because he becomes so short of breath. He was walking for an hour and a half at a time. He gets short of breath so often that it scares him and me. The doctor said that Eliquis can't cause this. He wouldn't take him off of it, so my boyfriend continued to struggle. About three weeks ago my boyfriend had an epic nosebleed that we had to go to the E.R. for. In treating the nosebleed, they stopped his Eliquis. Lo and behold no more shortness of breath. When he had his follow up with the cardiolo...

I was prescribed Eliquis because of AFIB. I work 12 hour shifts, mostly sitting at a computer, and have to urinate often. I'm also gaining weight and my ankles are swelling. But the worst part is I can't get a good nights sleep because I wake up 2-3 times to urinate. I feel exhausted. Is this caused by the AFIB or the Eliquis? ## That can happen as side effect of many medications, according to FDA reports, however, there is also a chance that you have a urinary tract infection, which is another known side effect. The other issues are also reported as being known to occur with this medication. You might need to try a different one. Have you informed your doctor? ## My cardiologist ordered the U/A and it came back clear. The frequent urination has slowed down some. Maybe it's ...

Since starting Eliquis about 2 months ago I have painful circulation problems in my feet when first getting up in the morning which last sometimes several hours. I am 77 years old so not sure if this is just an aging issue, but it didn't exist before Eliquis. I had been on 325 mg aspirin for about 9 years with no problems for permanent Afib. My cardiologists say that because of my age and being female I should be on an anticoagulant to be more protected against stroke. I know these work different on blood thinning than aspirin did and wonder if my body is not adjusting to the different mechanism. Next step may be to see a vascular specialist. ## I am very sorry about the problems that you are having, but can you please post back and be more specific as to the pain you are having due...

Since Eliquis skyrocketed by 500% this year to $600 out of pocket and my Rx plan won't make an exception for a more reasonable price, my Dr. is recommending Xarelto which is significantly lower ($112.50) than Eliquis. However, I am concerned that Xarelto may have a greater potential for bleeding. I am very active and have had no problems with Eliquis after ablation for AFIB over a year ago. Should I make the switch or try filling my prescription for Eliquis online from Canada at half the price? ## it is not legal to fill it outside the U.S. And yes, you can safely switch from one to the other, if your doctor approves. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I ...

I was put on multaq and eliquis in mid April 2017 after being diagnosed with AFib, AFib with flutter and SVT. My body adjusted well and there have been no side effects....until now. It's been 6 weeks since starting and I've developed a bad rash around my ankles that is slowly creeping up my legs and also affecting my hands and arms. Wondering if anyone on this forum is also taking multaq and/or eliquis and has experienced delayed side effects? ## It is possible, although, a rash could also be caused by circulatory issues, or an allergic reaction to something, according to FDA and NIH reports. I sometimes experience itching on my legs and feet due to how my heart and blood pressure medications affect my circulation... it can also worsen an allergic reaction, since when your blood...

I'm 57 and had lone afib. It occurred 5 times in 5 years. They have done a cryoablation 4.5 months ago. I've worn the monitor now for 3 weeks and debt it back. Overt the last 2 weeks I called my doctor 4 times and never gotten a call back. Eliquis, in just the last 2 months has caused me memory problems, very bad knee pain, BP had gone from around 125/ 70 to 145/80. Feeling very tired and lethargic. Weight gain, and the latest protien in urine. Since it was just spared to be for 3 months and I can't even talk to the office to make an appointment, just the answering service, today I'm switching over to aspirin ## Hello, Giss! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. Many people have had problems with Eliquis and quite a few people have ha...

I started eliquis 5 days ago and feel dizzy every day- does it eventually go away? ## Hello, Mollie! How are you? Yes, it is usually a transient side effects that goes away with time, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your response, which I find encouraging - I will be so relieved when the dizziness goes away! ## I was placed on Apixaban for AFib after being on Apirin for 10 years. Since then I have suffered dizziness, headache and sickness. I consulted my Doctor and he suggested that I stop taking Apixaban and return to Asirin that had served me well for so long. I am awaiting the outcome. These tablets just didn't work for me.

Hi all, Newbie here after being put on Apixaban after a bout of aFib. My question is fairly simple. How many of you have gotten into competitive sport that has some sort of risk? A little bit more about me. Previous heart attack, cardiac arrest 5 years ago. First bout of aFib was somewhat of a surprise as I regularly do long distance runs up to 50km plus play competitive field sports. ## Hello, Greg! How are you? Does your doctor feel it is safe for you to engage in such activities? As I'm sure you're aware, there is a risk of possibly dangerous bleeding, if you are injured, and also an increased risk of severe bruising, while on it, according to FDA warnings. Ref: Medline Plus Eliquis Other side effects may include headache, fatigue, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any other...

I've been taking Eliquis for 6 months I have lost any energy I might have had I had a rash on both arms and my hair has just started falling out my doctor says I am on nothing that would cause this ## Hello, Robert! How are you? Actually, both the NIH and the FDA lists everything you've mentioned as being possible side effects of this medication. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Sadly, doctor's don't always know all the possible side effects of most medications, because they do not study such information as much as a pharmacist, and some others in various medical fields. What type of doctor are you seeing? Is it a specialist, or just a regular PCP? ## I'm seeing a heart specialist because I had AFib I...

Have been taking Eliquis 5 mg 2x day for almost 3 months. Seem to be having Stomach Pain, Abdominal Swelling, Bloating, Gas, Facial Swelling and lots of weight gain and water retention. Also brain fog and memory problems. (It's hard to tell how much of this is from Eliquis and how much from CHF associated with A-Fib. Also taking Beta Blocker and Digoxin.) Eliquis has been out long enough for the pharmaceutical company (BMS) to put out a REVISED list of side-effects, to reflect real-life patients' experiences. Wonder if they have done so, or when they'll do so? Am probably going to switch to Xarelto and stop the Eliquis, in hopes that the Xarelto will cause fewer problems. ## You might want to rethink that decison, Afibber. Here is what the pharmacists say: Examining the Comp...

I have been on Eliquis for 3 years, after having a blood clot from back surgery. Also have Afib. I have pain all over...back pain, fibro, nerve pain. Terribly sore all time. Seems like it all became worse after I started taking Eliquis. Sometimes urine smells like motor oil. Don’t know if it’s Eliquis but I suspect it is. I have recently felt like I have some kind of arthritis. Just debilitating pain all the time. Wish I knew if it was caused by Eliquis! ## I was misdiagnosed with a blood clot in my calf. I went in with pain and they read the x ray wrong in urgent care. I was sent home on Eliquis only to end up by ambulance at the ER from side effects. You are not suppose to be on that for this long.
