However in some preparations and combination drugs, such as Percocet, 325mgs of Acetaminophen may be combined with 5-10mgs of Oxycodone for an additive effect on pain relief. I have been taking qty of 120/mo,10-325 (percocet) for 2yrs with no side effects. My new MD reduced the qty to 90 and all was ok. He then reduced the qty to 60/mo 2 weeks ago and now my back pain has increased so much I can no longer continue my 1/2 mile daily walks. On his progressive timetable that qty is to be reduced to 45/mo which will be intolerable. I think I will be ok taking the same strength for 75/mo or would I be better off taking a qty of 60/mo 20-325 extended release? I am 84 yrs old and do not smoke or drink. ## Has he stated why he wants to lower it so much? My script has changed under the new law. It's now Vicodin with 325 acetaminophen. I've noticed that this new pill is giving me a headache. Only the acetaminophen strength has changed. a bottle tape up and marking of GPI A5 info what is it ## This is Acetaminophen, it is hard to saw which dosage, as the company that manufactures them, Gemini, uses the same logo on all of their Acetaminophen tablets, and they make several dosages, including a Childrens 80mg, a regular strength 325mg and an extra strength 500mg, but either way, it is Acetaminophen in an over the counter dosage, not a prescription nor anything dangerous. I have had several pain intensive surgeries followed by Dr. prescrptions of Vicodin & Percocet on various occasions in the past. Each time I would have surplus meds (with dispose of dates listed on container) leftover after pain subsided. My question is do these meds have a shelf life where they become ineffective or worse, toxic? ## No, these types of medications do not become toxic, but they will start to lose effectiveness past the expiration date. i do not get relief from this pain medicine, what is the deal ## Hi baby, Unfortunately when it comes to choosing an appropriate pain medication, there's a lot of room for trial and error. If your body is accustomed to another manufacturer's versions of this, then its ineffectiveness may be attributed to the different binders/fillers that are being used in this particular tablet versus others. That's my theory anyways, given that nothing else is changed on the label when you switch between different manufacturer's brands/generics. Hydrocodone is Great for pain after a root canal! ## Hi Bob, Glad to hear that the Hydrocodone is really helping your pain. From what I hear, the combination of Hydrocodone + Acetaminophen seems to be a common choice for many post operative dental procedures. I believe 10mg is also highest you can get for this particular medication, so I'm guessing the pain is probably pretty severe without this high of a dose. My daughter has been taking hydrocodone 5/325 every 4 hrs since Thurs afternoon. 24 hrs ago, her dr moved it to every 6 hrs, and she took her last one at 615pm last night (it's now 1250a).
