Accutane Symptoms

Around 2005 my 15 yr. old son was put on Accutane for severe acne. He begin being very tired, but most teenagers come home from school and take a nap especially when catching the school bus at 6:30 am. His acne cleared up very quickly. He was very active, baseball, volleyball, etc. He started having symptoms at age 16 of rapid heart palpitations and shortness of breath, just walking across the yard, but didn't say anything because he thought he was "out of shape". I immediately took him to the doctor who could not find anything wrong on physical exam. So he submitted a full blood panel. That night I received a phone call to get him to the emergency room immediately, his red blood cells and platelets were critically low and he needs a blood transfusion. Upon further testing h...

I had taken Sotret, 30 mg for 2 months back in 2010. without much problem I developed back pain in 2012. In winters I developed elbow and knee pain as well. Back pain went away with exercise and elbow and knee pain went away with summers. Now I am living in Bangalore, thus havent exposed to winters for a year. I have no problem in others joints at all. My question is that can these symptoms which emerged much later than my dosage(tht too very less) can be the reason for such achy (just elbow and knee) joint pain?? My CT scan says everything is right with my skeleton system. ## Just to add. I have other problem. My head hairs are strong, body hairs are few. No stomach problem as such. Nothing as such at all. Ive just watched a tv programme that flicked a switch accutane I was prescibed ro accutane back in about 82 aged about 16 aggression depression loner I changed overnight remember it pretty much set me on the road of self destruction ever since is this just me kind regards ## You mean you're still suffering these types of symptoms? I just ended Accutane. I was on 80 mg. I just ended it today. I was wondering if anybody knew when my chapped lips, loss of hair, dry nose, dry skin, and aching bones will go away? ## Hello Jessika, Please read this Discussion Thread with over 600 post. My daughter took accutane 6 months ago and is now having problems with her vision, her eyes get really tired easily and burn, also she is feeling depressed all the time, and she is also tired all the time. Does anyone know if these symptoms will eventually go away, or is she stuck with them forever? Also any recommendations on treatment for these problems? I was on Accutane for 27 days. I had to stop because of muscle weakness and erectile dysfunction. It has been a month now since I stopped taking it but seems like the erectile dysfunction and muscle weakness are not going away. I would like to ask is there anyone who has experienced the same symptoms and recovered later? ## Accutane has been known to lower testosterone levels in some people that take it, and it been suggested that this should be added to the expected side effects list. Our son started taking Accutane the end of Dec, 2011. He was on it for 6 weeks. He ended up in Feb. in ER with a foot long blood clot in his groin down his leg. He had other symptoms prior to this as well. He had your normal side effects which we expected, like dry cracked lips, flushed face, more acne in first month, head itched. Then he had back pain, joint pain, (basketball player in his High school so was very active) Then he would at times feel faint when standing. He started getting really sick when his blood clot started hurting him. We didn't know what it was and went to the doc 2x for pain. This is listed as a rare serious side effect. I started accutane last month and have been on it for 26 days, the first week I was on it it cleared my face up almost completely, in the past week or so my acne has gotten worse, there's more, and different kinds, I've never had a problem with blackheads until now. My skin is so dry and my lips are cracked and hurt so bad, the corner of my lips cracked so now it hurts to eat or open my mouth too wide. They say these symptoms are normal but it's been really hard on me, I'm feeling even more self conscious about my skin now than before I started this medicine, I don't really wanna be seen. I took accutane in the early 90's when I was in my 20's. I took all but the last "phase" of the prescription. I had no problems with it at the time. The only warning from my dermatologist was don't get pregnant. In 2009 I developed a blood disorder and autoimmune disorder. I have pain in my joints and fatigue. My husband is convinced that it is from accutane. I have had many stays in the hospital because of this. Hi. I finished my 6 month Accutane treatment a month ago and have been feeling very weird since then. I have a lack of energy, loss of appetite, and get full after only 2-4 bites of a meal. My first period since I finished accutane was awful. I'm usually very light and don't have any major cramps but this month, it was horrendous. Could these symptoms be my body trying to get used to being off of the medicine? I went on accutane a year and a half ago for 6 months. I was apprehensive at first as I had heard that accutane was a very strong drug, but after speaking to my dermatologist I felt calm enough to give it a try. I now see how doctors can fool you just to make money and it makes me sick. I had bad joint andmuscle pains while on it, but was told that these symptoms would disappear once I was off the medication. My 25 yr old daughter took accutaine 6 months ago, for 5 months and now has depression and fatigue. Also she has ringing in her ears, blurry vision and headaches. She's having trouble working as she did a year ago. Anyone else have these symptoms? Any suggestions about what she can do to help with these symptomsand how long they may last? One Dr. advised me against it, his treatments made my face worse then referred me to another dermatologist that recommends absorica. To be honest I don't want to get on it. ## From what I could gather, Absorica contains the same active ingredient as Accutane (Isotretinoin). And I can say from personal experience that it's probably not even worth using as a last resort option if you're any bit concerned about it's potential side effects. The most common symptoms I experienced were severely chapped lips and dehydration more often than not. The chapped lips alone never seemed to heal during treatment because they were always so dry. My son started taking accutane 30 days ago. He has already lost his appetite completely and get sick to his stomach when he eats. His mood is one of a grey cloud. His knees ache and he has cracks in his lips. He had some open wounds from a crash in a bicycle race 4 weeks ago and they still have not heeled.
