## I just started Abilify 2 months ago... what a trip it's been! At the beginning I started to hear voices, luckily they were my son and husband. (I called my shrink, no return call.) Then when I took a nap, I could hear them, I talked to them and saw them if I woke up quick. (I called my shrink, no return call.) I can't remember the easiest words during a conversation, and have to describe it. You know that round thing on your car that can pop, yeah tire! .... I'm calling to make an appointment to get my husband's, uh,um, TOOTH, ya, tooth pulled...as I am speaking with the Oral Surgeon's office. (Called my shrink, no return call.) Well this past weekend I was exausted. My husband, son's girlfriend and I took an hour drive to get some "new to us" furnitur...

My 13 yr old son has just been prescribed Abilify and I need to know if anyone has experience with their teen being on this. ## My son was on Abilify for about a year. He did really well on it except that he gained almost 50lbs. It helped him focus and concentrate but made hiim extremely hungry to the point that he was getting up in the middle of the night and gorging himself on food. ## My son took Abilify for about 2 years, ages 14-16, was not approved by the FDA for him at the time. He began taking it after an episode of waking me in the middle of the night telling me that satan told him to kill himself. He was blank and lacked emotion while he was taking it (which was reported to the mental health provider), but no weight gain. He truly lost his personality and sense of humor. He ha...

Awful drug..Side effects of crying.urinating in pants, severe aggression .... ## My son is 24. He has Down Syndrome and has been taking Paxil for years. He recently started Abilify 2 mg for aggression/irritability/anxiety/shaking. He is crying now and NEVER cries. It is heartbreaking. He is very sad. ## Have you contacted his doctor? Abilify, which is an antipsychotic containing the active ingredient Aripiprazole, is not the right medication for everyone to use. It really sounds like it is having a negative effect on him and his doctor might need to switch him to something else. ## My 14 year old daughter has Autism. She has been on Zoloft for years. Her Doctor added Abilify several months ago. I wish we had not gone down this road. She has always suffered from anxiety but now has develo...

For 10 years I have been devoted to this drug. I have a beautiful loving wife, a 3 month old daughter, I own my own home and bought a new car a few years ago. 10 years ago I was hospitalized because I thought I had to save the world from itself. Today, I am a counselor for homeless youth and young adults. Although I am no longer trying to "save the world" I am now facing a dilemma of trying to preserve my world without going insane. I have a lot at stake. I am much older now. I like to think I have learned a few things about myself and illness. The truth is I hate having to take medication. I was 19 when I first had my break and now I am 30. I was 180 and now I am 280. I carry the weight well but since I no longer have the weight of the world on my shoulders (which was a tremend...

Afew nights ago I had 2 alcoholic drinks and accidently missed my usual dose of 15mg abilify at 7pm. That night I had bad nausea and stomach pain and was awake all night with my heart racing and feeling extremely paranoid. In the morning I had a lot of energy but this didn't last long. I took my missed dose at roughly 8:30 am and expected the symptoms to dissapear but during the day I was still nauseous and very tired and slightly confused and felt abit off. Last night I had one drink and took my abilify at the usual time at 7pm. Again I had bad nausea and trouble sleeping and very vivid nightmares that woke me during the night. Can abilify cause sudden onset of alcohol intolerance? I have not been able to find much information online on this subject. ## Hello, Loz! How are you? I...

I was on 10mg of Abilify for at least 5 years as an add-on to my anti-depressant for my major depressive disorder, on top of my bulimia and anxiety. I went down to 5mg in the last year I was on it. I had no idea it had such bad physical withdrawal effects. My old doctor told me to wean off of it last year when I decided I didn't need it anymore, but did not give me any sort any sort of percentage or schedule. I got terribly sick about a month and a half after I weaned off of it for only 2 weeks and didn't even make the connection right away. So I've been taking 2.5mg every 35-45days for the past year... basically every time I get sick. Now I have terrible joint pain, which I thought was arthritis (I'm only 36 years old) and I just went to an orthopedist and she found no ...

I've been on 1mg of ability with 50mg of pristiq mainly for PTSD purposes and my and some of my symptoms have worsened anger, hyper arousal, nightmares etc. I have tried other medications such as Zoloft,Prozac,Welbutrin all with no success or symptoms that became worse. Is there anything else that I could ask my doctor about? ## Hello, Cliff! How are you? Have you ever tried Risperdal? It has successfully helped many people for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, schizophrenia and etc. It's very potent so tiny doses are often effective and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, somnolence and weight gain. It's an idea to ask your doctor about. Does anyone else have any ideas that may help? ## Try 2 m...

Based on all the warnings associated with Abilify, some of which can result in permanent impairment or death, why would anyone take the drug, and why on earth give it to a child. There is now a name for every twitch we go through and people are so quick to take a pill to fix every thing that is called life and living. It is not always easy or fun. I am depressed almost every day and I would never consider taking this drug. I fill my days caring for others and try to make myself useful. ## Abilify is an antipsychotic, so it is really only intended to be used for severe treatment resistant cases, it's not intended to be used to treat minor depression, anxiety or other similar conditions. And all medications do carry the risk of causing serious, long-term side effects, or death in rare...

My son has just been put on Abilify for bipolar - He is 5yrs old... Does anyone have any advice or experience with children on this medication? ## Well, I am not sure how crazy I am about a child that young using it, it has not been evaluated for safety and efficacy in children under 18 yet. Here's the page with the info: Ablify Info Click Here ## My son has been on abilify for a little over a month and has been placed on this med for depression My son has also been diagnosed with add. Thus far its worked great hes no longer withdrawn, he can focus more and attentive and most of all he's happy it seems as though we may not need the add medicine. I feel as though you wont know if a med works until you try it and if we do start seeing side effects then he will have to stop taking ...

My son safely tapered off Abilify. His last dose was Saturday July 4th. Curious how long the drug remains in his system. And, once it's completely gone from his blood stream, will there be any withdrawal symptoms I need to watch for? He is non verbal, profoundly disabled, otherwise I would ask him if he is feeling any withdrawals. Thanks! ## By now the drug is certainly out of his system, as I know this reply is late from when you last posted. But regarding your concerns on withdrawal symptoms I would try to watch specifically for any signs of depression, irritability, and other mood-related changes of that nature. Tapering the dose down as he did, should've lessened the possibility of any severe withdrawal symptoms. However, because everyone responds to these medications differ...

Abilify has helped my depression but it has given me bad headaches on my left side. Not sure if I should keep taking it. I think I’ll cut it down and try that first. It does have a lot of side effects and affects my feelings of irritability. I have chronic migraines that are very severe on my right side along with my TMJ where I’ve had joint replacement. I would like to know what others have been dealing with while taking Abilify. ## While a headache can be a side effect of many medications, you should always inform your doctor to be sure that's all it is, for your own safety. The FDA lists other side effects of Abilify as possibly including nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, and vision changes. What other ones have you been experiencing? My mother has Parkinson's (we think) was on Sinimet and Carbadopaleva and they took her off of that and now put her on Abilify and Ultram and now she can't talk suddenly and cries and is suicidal. For 3 years we have felt she's been overdrugged. Her mind is OK until they pump more drugs in her. ## Low Dose Abilify increases dopamine and increases mood. High dose abilify blocks dopamine. It sounds like the doctor needs to reconsider the dose ASAP. See Below: How Abilify works: Burris KD, Molski TF, Xu C, Ryan E, Tottori K, Kikuchi T, Yocca FD, Molinoff PB.

I have just started taking Abilify for severe anxiety and some depression. I am wondering if anyone has had problems with weight gain while using this medication. ## I have been on abilify for almost 2 years and have gained 25 lbs. I wish I knew why it caused weight gain. I never had problems with weight before. ## My Son has been using this med for about a year.. he is on several other meds and has had a big issue with weight gain and bowel issues.. seems he had an increase in bowel issues once he was on this med.. ## My Daughter had gained alot of weight since being on abilfy ## While Abilify is known to cause weight gain, as a side effect, in studies it was shown to be less frequent, and lower wait gains, than other comparable medications, generally 1-10pounds. I was on effexor and wellbutrin for depression for many years. It stopped working so the doctor gave me 5mg abilify to take with the wellbutrin instead of the Effexor. The abilify worked very well for depression, but caused anxiety ( which I never had before) I stayed on it for 6 to 8 weeks anyway - dealing with the anxiety because the depression was gone. The anxiety was very very difficult to deal with and finally I couldn't take it anymore and had to stop taking it. I weaned off it and the anxiety went away EXCEPT NOT ALL OF IT. Now I have a new problem that wont go away and I am so scared and frustrated When I go to sleep I have bad dreams or dreams that cause anxiety. I wake up from the dream - still remembering some of it. Than within a second or two I am hit with a wave of an...

That abilify T.v commercial is rather misleading, why dont they say the word "antipsycotic" anywhere in the T.V ad and the warning information for antipsycotics? Just say it abilify DANGER ANTIPSYCOTIC ! Say it 5 times Danger "abilify antipsychotic" Danger "abilify antipsychotic" Danger "abilify antipsychotic" Danger "abilify antipsychotic" Danger "abilify antipsychotic" . That was easy "Abilify Akathisia" why dont they describe that? Why dont they say that on there t.v ads? Antipsychotics Attack the pleasure and motivation centers is the brain and also causing Akathisia, a syndrome characterized by horrible sensations of "inner" restlessness and an inability to sit still . The t.v ads should say "Abilify Akathisia"...
