MS Contin Morphine

Morphine is a pain medication of the opiate family that is found naturally in a dark brown, resinous form, from the poppy plant (Papaver somniferum). It can be taken orally, sublingually, via inhalation, the trans-dermal route, inter-anally as well as via injection (both subcutaneously as well as more commonly intravenously.[7][9] It acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to induce analgesia and alter perception and emotional response to pain. compare Norco 10mg 5 *day with MSContin 15mg 2*day ## The Hydrocodone in the Norco and the Morphine in MS Contin are actually equal in terms of strength, so if you were taking 50mgs a day of the Hydrocodone in the Norco, then you'll need 50mgs a day of the Morphine to equal it for pain control. Learn more Norco details here. Learn more Morphine details here. Thus, you may not get the same pain relief, since you're not taking an equivalent dosage. Are there any other questions or comments? ## So the 50mg/day of Norco I was taking is stronger then the 2 15mg MSContin that the new dr. put me on?

My friend gave me five 5 mg blue ms contin. She has sense found out they count your meds. Is there anything that looks similar ? ## Hi rae, Unfortunately for your friend there are no OTC meds that resemble this description enough to convince a medical professional that it's the real deal; and that's because no two pills share the same marking, physical description, shape, and/or size. I don't like to encourage anyone to lie, as no one should be taking anyone else's prescription like that. But if she can't accept her mistake she might want to say that she accidentally dropped or spilled them down the drain...for lack of a better excuse. None the less, she'll have to come up with some quick savvy talking to explain the missing pills. I just wouldn't recommend a...

I am currently prescribed MS Contin for pain and while effective I sometimes feel like some of the pills are fake. I get no relief and feel withdrawal symptoms even. I have looked at them under a magnifer but they all look the same. Is it possible that someone at my pharmacy is switching some of my pills for pacebos? If so, how do I deal with it? ## I am experiencing the same problem. Generic MS Contin ER, 60mg tablets. I have been taking these for 11 years, but for the past week and a half my pain level became extremely high. Couldn't sleep, couldn't keep still. Unbelievable pain. I decided to stop taking them and started taking some 30mg pills I had. Pain is starting to subside after 2 days. How can I have the 60mg pills examined to see if they are counterfeit? BTW, these were...

iam takin 100mg ms contin for a year now and am sick of it what would help in detoxing. I dont want to take more drugs and i know the pains in the legs are coming because i detoxed of panadiene forte years ago i would just like some tips ## What type of leg pain did you have? What is just aching, or was it muscle cramping? I have done this exact detox, cold turkey, so I can try to warn you of what to expect and give a few tips. If it was leg cramping, it might be due to the fact that narcotics tend to sap the potassium in your body and a low-dose supplement can help with that. You should check with your doctor first, though, because high potassium levels can also be dangerous, so you shouldn't add a supplement, without their approval. If you can get your doctor to help, by prescribi...

lt green m l26 ## What makes you think this is MS contin? I dont find that number/imprint 126 m anywhere. ## Yes, your post is slightly confusing, did you mean M 126, M L26, M and a score line and then 26, or what? Very hard to interpret. And just like nenene said, it is not necessarily MS Contin, I realize many people think that is what they M stands for, but the letters on pills are usually just a company logo and have nothing to do with the actual active drug in the pill. The FDA says that any prescription drugs legally sold, or imported into the US for sale, must have unique imprints for ID purposes, however what that imprint is, is entirely up to the company. So the imprint for each product they make will be different, and the dosage will also make the imprints different. There are...

My pharmacy was out of my regular brand ms contin, I had to wait a few days (they suddenly didn't have the medication I got there for over 10 years. seems strange to me. A day or two after I started taking these, my leg pain came back, I have burning pain all the time, with my regular brand ( I think they are by Purdue) small darker blue pills, I never had pain even if I overworked my leg. These new ones are larger and made by mylan, they seem to work ok in the morning, but the pain gets worse when I usually do things in the afternoon. The others stay with me all day, I start to get pain late in the evening a few hours before my next pill is due. I have learned to live with the others, got things I needed to be done, with these I can see me becoming a couch potato. Has anyone experie...

Does anyone know where I can fill a presription for MS Contin 200 in Manhattan? I am having a heck of a time finding this stuff. ## You have got to take it to your pharmacy and have them order it for you first, which means you will have to wait a few days for it to come in. If they do not want to try and find a privately owned pharmacy who usually is more willing to have a new customer. Alot of pharmacies do not want to carry these kinds of meds anymore. Good Luck

Does it take some time to build up in the system for this medication to start working for pain? I have just started taking them today, 1 every 12 hours. Thank you for any information that you can give me. ## Hi gwen, While it's certainly going to take some time for it to fully build up in your system, I would think that you should at least be able to feel or notice some sensation of relief within a short period of time after taking your dose. However, because MS Contin is timed released and usually lasts up to 12 hours, it's time-release effect could also be minimizing how much is absorbed into your system at any given moment; making it seem like it's not working as well as it should be. That's my theory anyways...But in the event that you're just not getting any rel...

These dont seem to work can you take every 8hrs instead of 12hrs ## Hi Mike, It sounds to me like the dosage may not be strong enough for you; but to answer your question, the usual adult dose for pain is 5 to 30 mg every 3 to 4 hours as needed (when taking it Orally, Sublingual, or Buccal). The dosing indications for MS Contin (Morphine Oral) also state that "extended-release" tablet dosages range from 10 mg to 600 mg daily, given in equally divided doses every 8 to 12 hours or given as one dose every 24 hours. So depending on whether or not your tablets are extended-release, you should have some flexibility with the hours. I hope this helps! ## They are extend release ## If anyone is looking for a "buzz" with MS Contin, you are very unlikely to get it. These pills are ...

Are there any discount coupons you can download to get a more reasonable price for MS CONTIN 30mg.?? ## I have searched quite a few resources and I am sorry, but I am not finding anything, neither coupons nor assistance programs for this medication. This really doesn't surprise me, as it is very hard to find programs for most controlled substances. MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine, which is a narcotic analgesic and it is available as a generic. Have you talked to your pharmacy about purchasing the generic, rather than the name brand? As I remember from when I was on it, the price difference was substantial, the name brand was over $300 a month, but it was only around $100 for a month of the generic. Are there any other comments or questions? ## WALGREENS CARD PROGRA...

I have been taking oxycodone the 15mg and 30mg for a while. Then the pharmacy I use and other surrounding pharmacies did not have the medication. So my dr then switched me to the ms contin 60mg er. I took my first dose at 11:30 that morning. After taking that dose I got a euphoria feeling along with sweating and my body started to feel heavy. I was in the bed for the rest of the day. I got a headache as well. So as u can c that medication was not for me. Although I did not feel any pain (besides headache) it caused more problems than it cured. I was also prescribed the 15mg ir morphine sulfate for breakthru pain but that pill wasn't even needed. The 60mg er of the ms contin did not wear off until 12 hrs later. So to me ms contin is a good pain relieving drug as long as u don't h...

Can anyone tell me what 30 mg of morphine er would be equivalent to if it were taken with alcohol? I read if you drink with morphine er it could release the entire pill into your system. I didn't know this when I was drinking beer with it. Thanks. ## Hello, Freida! How are you? No, I am not aware of any issues like that. However, drinking alcohol while taking it should generally be avoided, due to the fact that it can potentiate some of the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, drowsiness and dizziness than usual, as reported by the FDA. It is also warned that MS Contin carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

This pill has no crush protection ( ms contine ER) ect... Can it be cut in quarters and used with Oxicontine 30 mg ## Can swim take the purple er protection of a 30 mg MS Contin, cut it in quarters and swallow it. That's only 7.5 a quarter what's the prob. ## I'm not a doctor, but logically, it does make sense to do the math first so you know exactly what you're taking and how you're taking it (if you plan on dividing it up). In that sense, I don't see any harm being done personally. However, when it comes to extended-release medications, I wouldn't recommend tampering with them at all. This is just my own personal preference for safety reasons. It's just not worth the risk to me, since you never really know how it's going to effect you until you try i...

I've been on Lortab for 21 years after back surgery. I also had a morphine pump implant, 3 of them to be exact. But after the last one failed I decided that after 13 years of being stuck in the stomach with needles every 2 months to refill the pump, I wanted it removed permanently. So in addition to the Lortab for pain I was put on Ms Contin(morphine sulfate) 30 mg..But I've found myself going through a vicious cycle with these 2 pain meds and have become very addicted to both drugs. My doctor recently increased the dosage of the ms contin to 60 mg. 3 x a day. Does anyone else take these pain meds? If so what kind of long term effect have they had or do they have on you? I'm up in age now and truly hate taking all these pain medications but don't see a way out. I have se...

I'm 120lbs, can I take 60mg of MS Contin ## Hello, Kaye! How are you? Has your doctor prescribed it for you? It can vary from person to person depending on your tolerance to opiates. This dose may be too much for some people, but not for others, if they are used to taking it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Kaye, if you're uncomfortable with taking that much, ask your dr to give you a lower dose for a few weeks and see how it does. If you haven't taken MS Contin or Morphine before, it may make you sleepy or put you to sleep, so take it when you don't have to be alert or awake for a while.

I'm on hydrocodone 7.5 and my doctor also gave me MS Contin 60mg CR.. If I completely stop my hydrocodone will I have any withdrawals while taking the MS Contin CR as prescribed? 1 a day.. Or can I take 2 MS Contin per day?? ## Hello, Heather! How are you? You should only take it as prescribed, so if your doctor has noted once daily, then you shouldn't exceed that, without their approval. Hydrocodone and Morphine are equivalent on a one to one ratio, so no, you shouldn't experience any withdrawals on the 60mg dose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

11/1/2013 TROUBLE GETTING MS CONTIN 100MG ER FILLED? I have been to no less than 15 pharmacies and can not get this filled. I have 3 disc herniations and pain is round the clock. It's sad when the pharmacies tell you that it is "on back order" or "cant help you" etc. and they can see the Rx is valid from a respected Dr. I finally found a "specialty pharmacy" that handles meds that need compounding that filled 2/3 of my total Rx. I was told by an owner that the pricing of MS Contin has tripled in the last few months and there is no profit margin which the regular pharmacists are probably unaware of. I may be wrong but it almost seems like "price fixing" by the Pharmaceutical companies. Nine months (Jan to July) of regular prices and then triples? The p...
