Ethinylestradiol/norethisterone (EE/NET), or ethinylestradiol/norethindrone, is a combination birth control pill which contains ethinylestradiol (EE), an estrogen and norethisterone (NET), a progestin.[1] It is used for birth control, symptoms of menstruation, endometriosis, and menopausal symptoms.[1][2] Other uses include acne.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1] Some preparations of EE/NET additionally contain an iron ...

Last period was on Apr 21st. Started Minastrin 24 Fe on Apr 25. Bled for 22 days straight. Stopped taking pill on May 19th. No real period since. Has anyone had issues like this? Help please? ## Hello, Lor! How are you? Have you had a period, yet? The bleeding like that can be normal, when you first start a hormonal contraceptive, such side effects usually last about 3 months, or so and taking it for a bit, then abruptly stopping, could throw your hormones off balance, so your cycle could be off. ## I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MINASTRIN 24 FE MADE ME BLEED FOR 25 DAYS. CALL YOUR PHYSICIAN, AND STOP USING IT.

Hi! I have been on Minasterin FE 24 for about 1 year now. I had my normal period last month that started on the second day of the brown placebo pills. I started the white pills on the same day I started my period (meaning I didn't take 2 of the brown placebo pills). Am I at a higher risk for pregnancy this month? ## No, those are also placebo tablets, so to speak, they only contain an iron supplement to help prevent women from becoming anemic, due to their menstrual bleeding, according to FDA listings. As long you don't miss any active pills, you should be fine, but it never hurts to check for pregnancy, if you are concerned. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, PMS like symptoms, and irregular bleeding. Is there anything else...

I was taking lo loestrin 24 fe for almost 2 years and it was switched to minastrin 24 fe, so I have been taking the new version of it for 4 months now. it's chewable so I chew it everyday at the same time. but it says to take it with a glass of water and I don't do that. I just chew it and take a sip of water. is it still effective if I don't drink the 8oz glass of water after it? ## Hello, Kayla! How are you? Yes, that won't alter its efficacy, but you should drink the water to aid your own digestive system. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## yes, If I've been taking it for about 4 months with little or no per...

I have been on loestrin 24fe for about 8 years now. I loved it. No period and no problems with weight gain. Now that I have had to switch I am moody and gaining weight. This is problem because I am in fitness. All the exercise is not helping the moodiness or weight. I don't like this pill at all!! ## Hi Ale, Sorry to hear about your problems with minastrin. Both medications are said to contain the same active ingredients (norethindrone acetate + ethinyl estradiol + ferrous fumarate), so I'm thinking any noticeable differences (that may be having a negative effect) could probably be found in the list of "inactive ingredients" - otherwise known as binders/fillers. However, in cases like this it may be a good idea to speak with your doctor or gynecologist about having your ...

My daughter is 15 and has Down Syndrome. She has been on Minastrin 24 FE for a year to control her heavy bleeding. The doctor started her on these and told us to only give her the white pills everyday skipping the brown pills. That this would stop her cycles. She has not had any monthly cycle nor breakthrough bleeding. She developed signs of a UTI and yeast infection 12 days ago and was put on an antibiotic and a single dose yeast pill. She started spotting two days later today is da ten of that spotting. I plan to call the dr Monday if it hasn't stopped. Has this happened before to anyone? ## Hello, Debbie! How is your daughter doing? Has there been any change? Many antibiotics can lower the efficacy of oral contraceptives, which may result in spotting, or a full on period, accordi...

I am 39 and Have been on loEstrin 24 Fe for many years to now find out that it's no longer being made and was being switched to Minastrin 24 Fe. After being on this pill almost 3 wks, I have been an emotional hot mess , I cry for no reason at all , have gained weight , have had massive headaches, my boobs feel a lot fuller and bigger , stomach tenderness and cramping. Trying to figure out what to have my doctor switch me to ... Help lol ## Hello, Funmomof2! How are you doing? I'm so sorry about the problems you're having. It sounds like your just getting a bad hormonal balance from the Minastrin, from the symptoms you list, it's most likely too much estrogen. Your should be able to suggest one you can switch to that has a lower amount of it and will be closer to the LoEs...

Hi, I have been on this birth control for about 4-5 months now, my periods were extremely light before i started the pill, usually only about 3 days long but i had very bad cramping. Since i began the pill my periods havent lasted more than a day but they have been pretty regular, this month i havent gotten my period, is this a problem seeing as though my periods were so light before? ## No, not unless your doctor feels there is reason to be concerned. Some women just don't have periods, when taking oral contraceptives. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking Minestrin 24 for over a year now with a regular period, however this last month - I have not had period only spotted a tiny bit, however, I have intense cramping - is this normal. ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. It is usually nothing to worry about, unless your doctor sees a reason to be concerned. Some women stop having periods, entirely, while taking oral contraceptives. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was in loestrin 24 starting in October 2011 until the switch had to be made to minastrin and have been taking that ever since. Many times I have very light periods where no tampon is needed ever and I wear a p...

I am 39, I've been on LoEtrin Fe and later Minastrin Fe for several years. I've always has some sort of period, even if it's just light for one or two days, usually some slight cramping but nothing like without the Pill, until about April or May, when I seemed to spot for a week before, had nothing the week of the iron pills, and then went right back to my regular schedule of white pills. The next month, normal, light period lasting about a day, a rather heavy one in September, some cramping but almost no spotting or anything in October, some minor cramping but also nothing in November, and I am just worried something is wrong. It's time for my next period, so I can't report about that till after Sunday, and though I've not missed any pills, I worry about pregnan...

The pill package looks the same, the active ingredients and dosage is the same, but as some of us might have been so unlucky to experience, generics don't always do nice things when they're birth control. I believe the company that makes Minastrin is/was acquired by Allergan -- I just want to make sure this is the same medication and perhaps just a packaging change due to a patent expiring? Remember when they changed from Loestrin (swallow pill) to Menastrin (chew)? Same exact manufacturer and company and active ingredients, just a different consumption format to extend their patent and prevent other companies from making generics. I just want to know if this new Allergan package I got is the same company as Minastrin - my body doesn't react well to switches in formulas. ( I...

I started taking loestrin 24 fe about five years ago and then made the switch to minastrin 24 fe when the company discontinued loestrin. Typically, I will have little to no bleeding during periods and it always takes at least 3 iron pill days for bleeding to even begin. Recently, however, I had extremely heavy bleeding and cramping after just one iron pill that has continued for several days. This has happened one other time. Is it normal to go 6 months barely needing a panty liner during periods to having one so heavy that even ultra tampons (more absorption than super plus!) can only suffice for a couple of hours? If my body does what it did last time, I will go back to no periods after this horrid one. ## Hello, Sunshine! How are you? Yes, that can happen, if your estrogen levels sur...

Hello guys I started taking lomedia 24 fe three months ago. I switched from minastrin. I switched because I couldn't afford the minastrin and the Dr said lomedia was the same thing. Since switching I have had 3 panic attacks I cry over every little thing I cramp horribly when I am bleeding. It's to the point of just laying in bed crying and not doing anything. I have bled most of this month. I had a reg period for 7 days except it was heavier than usual. Then a couple days after getting off I went to the bathroom and wipped there was a bunch of big blood clots but I hadn't been bleeding. Ever since that day I will randomly bleed heavily as if I'm on my period or sometimes worse and then a few hrs later ill stop bleeding and the cycle has continued for about two weeks now...

After my favorite OC, Loestrin 24 Fe was discontinued my doctor has prescribed Minastrin 24 Fe. My body did not respond well to it at all (acne, weight gain, mood swings)... After trying a few other OC's and reading so many reviews on how great Loestrin 24 Fe was compared to Minastrin and others I thought if we got enough people to vote to bring Loestin 24 Fe back, maybe the company would consider it.... It is a shot in the dark but definitely worth taking... Respond if you would like to see Loestrin 24 Fe back on the market.

I used to bleed clots the 1/2 size of the palm of my hand, cramp and lay in bed 2 weeks, wear adult diapers over my pads and tampons, be extremely unpredictable with emotions and thoughts from minute to minute. I suffered like this from age 14-28. No pills worked. I got diagnosed with an ovarian tumor, and within the surgical removal my OB found Endometriosis and PCOS, double whammy. Then I met Loestrin . 100% changedy life! It was like curing a chronic DISEASE!!!!! Now I'm forced, like the rest of you, to get on Minastrin. I absolutely approached it open mindedly but had a tiny bit of fear. I tried to ignore the pill and the fact it was new just so I was sure I wasn't psyching myself out. ============= 2 MONTHS into MINASTRIN======= •••Vaginal discharge/ yeast...

I am one of the customers unhappy with the discontinuation of Loestrin 24 Fe. I saw so many negative reviews with those who switched to Minastrin that I refused to take it despite what my nurse was trying to say. I researched and knew a generic was coming. I have waited since October of last year for Lomedia and picked up my prescription and pills 3 weeks ago. I still haven't taken them because I'd like to know about the experience on these pills. Has anyone taken Lomedia? Please share your experience so we can all be informed. ## Hello, Kimmie! How are you? From what I can find, there is no difference better the Lomedia and LoEstrin FE, the active ingredients and the dosages are the same. The FDA has approved it as a generic equivalent, so you shouldn't have any problems wi...

I started taking bc a few years ago in order to regulate my abnormal period which back then was usually a couple of weeks long and very painful. I switched to minastrin 24 fe in July after getting a new obgyn. Everything was fine for a while, I have not missed any pills and I have taken them about the same time everyday. Last month I went on a cruise for a week and during that cruise I took the last pill in my pack and have yet to get a refill but have not been intimate since finishing. Normally my period starts right after I finish a pack but I didn't have one at all. The week before the cruise my boyfriend and I were intimate and we used the pullout method. My last normal period was near my birthday in November. Now it is the start of the new year and I am cramping like I am on my...

I have been on Minsatrin 24 fe for about three months now (before that I was on loestrin and then got put on gildis (Or whatever that off brand is. I can never remember how to spell it) so I've been on birth control since 2011) bc no one told me I could get minastrin for the same price as loestrin. Anyways, I got really sick last night and woke up with blood consistent with a period (with even a little clotting). I'm only on the second row of white pills and I've never had this happen before. Has this happened to anyone else or what is this? ## Hi Rikuya! It is normal 2 have break through bleeding, while on the birth control. It may happen 4 a couple of months or so, until your body becomes adjusted 2 the new birth control. If u continue 2 have heavy bleeding and clotting, I...

I have been taking minastrin 24 fe for 26 days now. I took the first brown pill in the pack two days ago and the second today. When is it safe to have my boyfriend ejaculate inside me? ## I've been having problems with my throat for a while now. I constantly feel like my throat is clogged up with mucus and I'm always trying to clear it by coughing and hacking. Occasionally I'll get some mucus up, but most of the time I can't and it drives me insane. I spend most of my day clearing my throat and coughing. Recently I relealized that the problem started right around the time Loestrin 24 Fe was discontinued and I began taking Minastrin 24. Is there something in this pill that's different and that I could be allergic to? Or could chewing it before swallowing be irritating...

I have been taking Minastrin for over a year now and I'm pretty careful about not being sexually active around the time when I am taking the brown pills. Is the 'strength' of the brown pills less than the white ones? Do I have more of a risk of getting pregnant if I have sex the first day I take a brown pill? ## The brown pill is a completely different medication than the white pills, so they're not really weaker or stronger. They're used to help you track when to take the white pills next, placebos so to speak. They are ferrous fumarate, which is a form of iron. This is most likely used to give you a little extra iron during your period days, to replace the iron you may lose through the bleeding. I don't believe you have to take them if you don't want them, ...
