My 90 year old mother has short term memory problems - badly! She claims the pill for pain that Dr. recently prescibed (Ibuprofen 600mg LEG) makes her confused. I am familiar with Ibuprofen, but I do not know what the LEG stands for. Does this prescription drug contain any narcotic? Or is it just Ibuprofen? What does the LEG stand for? Thanks! ## Hello, Bob! How are you? How is your mother doing? The LEG is just an abbreviation for the manufacturer of the tablet, so this is just Ibuprofen. Learn more Ibuprofen details here. And while that's not a typical side effect, the elderly can be much more sensitive to medications than their younger counterparts, so it could be causing her more severe dizziness and such than it may to other people. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I ...

I have had ulcers (bleeding) but am fine now. Can I take Ibuprofen 600mg? I am concerned that it may cause bleeding again... Also, is ibuprofen 600mg a narcotic? ## No, it is not a narcotic. This medication is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, and, yes, it does increase the risk of bleeding, stomach irritation, and ulceration, or worsening existing ulcers, according to FDA reports. It would be best to check with your doctor to discover what medication is safe for you take. You may need to stick with one that is milder, such as Tylenol/Acetaminophen. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You might have seen this on another post but am asking about Ibuprofen and Tylenol (no other variations) combined. My post was moved to a not as appropriate post as I was hoping it would be... Is it...

Is it safe to take a 600mg ibuprofen after taking a 200mg ibuprofen an hour befor? ## Hello, Lynn! How are you? If your doctor approves, you can. It can be taken in dose up to 800mgs at a time. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. There may, however, be complications if you take such high doses for a long period of time, which can include high blood pressure and stomach ulceration. Are you on any other medications? Do you have any diagnosed medical conditions? Those factors also play a role in determining if it is safe for you to take.

So I was diagnosed with Shingles last week and was initially prescribed Vicodin for the pain by Urgent Care. In 6 days blew through the 20 Vicodin due to the pain being unreal. I called my PCP and they upgraded the prescription to Percocet 5-325 because the Vicodin was simply not working. The Urgent Care doctor called me and said no don't take the Percocet, take 600mg of Ibuprofen instead and if that doesn't show relief then they said to try Gabapentin. Between the Valtrex and Vicodin I've had extremely minimal side effects, mainly just drowsiness fortunately. I'm confused as to how 600mg of Ibuprofen is supposed to do what Vicodin couldn't do over 56 days 5-6 times a day? I looked at the side effects for Gabapentin and the side effects, at least some are rather terr...

Insurance made me switch over manufacturers from Amneal (600mg Ibuprofen) to Dr. Reddy's (600mg Ibuprofen). What is the difference, if any? Does one have more fillers? Is one a sodium ibuprofen and one standard, absorbed faster etc? Thanks. ## They both contain the same active ingredient, they are just manufactured by different companies. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Ibuprofen as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding. How is the new tablet working for you?

I just gave my husband 600mg ibuprofen 2 hrs ago. Can I give him the 10 mg oxycodone now or do I have to wait 2 more hours? ## Yes, ibuprofen is a different class of drug and can be taken at the same time, though for better pain control they are often staggered. So if he's prescribed oxycodone every 6 hours, you could give a dose, then 3 hrs later give ibuprofen, 3 hrs later give the oxycodone again...and so on. Just make sure he's not exceeding the max dose per day of oxycodone. ## @Stark, I just wanted to add a second opinion, in that Oxycodone + Ibuprofen is also available as a combination med that goes by the name of "Combunox". Although I've only ever seen this particular med available in a dose containing 5mgs of Oxycodone + 400mgs of Ibuprofen, and haven't...

Hi. I'm 19 yrs old and just started my period today. I heard that taking 800mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours can temporarily stop the bleeding. My question is, does it work for any kind of ibuprofen or just the red ones? I have white 600mg tablets. Can I use those and they will work just as effectively? ## Hi Lydia, Based on my research, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Ibuprofen or naproxen) may help reduce menstrual bleeding by decreasing the production of substances called prostaglandins. I haven't read anything about certain colored tablets having a greater effect than others in this regard, so I'm thinking that is just something which can only be determined through trial and error. Cramp bark is also a natural alternative touted for it's use in alleviatin...

I have had chronic pain throughout my body for years that may or may not be associated with fibromyalgia and/or arthritis. Regular 200mg OCT ibuprofen doesn't work, even when up to 1000mg is taken at once. I quite literally found a small bottle of IP465 ibuprofen, and after researching what the pill was, decided out of sheer desperation to see if it would help. It doesn't make the pain go away, but does help some...oddly enough, more than the OTC ibuprofen....and that doesn't make sense. Why would a 600mg pill work better than 5/200mg pills would? Is the IP465 time released? ## Not, it is also a regular release formulation. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. It just mig...

Is it ok to take 1 hydrocodone/acetaminophen 7.5-750mg tablet and 1 ibuprofen 600mg at the same time? ## Hi Andre, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Vicodin (acetaminophen + hydrocodone) and Ibuprofen. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. Because I am not a doctor the most I can tell you is that, based on what I've read, these two medications are regarded as being safe to take together and shouldn't present any problems outside of the normal side effects associated with each medication. I hope this helps to answer your question! ## You can, but it shouldn't be done for long periods of time and your kidney function should b...
