need information ## This is a new product from Purdue Pharma and is replacing the original Oxycontin. It has been specially formulated to help prevent abuse, by retaining its time released properties, even if someone tries to alter it. Side effects are supposed to be the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. I have PD with alot of broken bones. I have been taking Oxycontin for over 13 yrs. I am now taking Oxycontin CR 40 mg 4 X a day. I just had a refill and got the new type. With the old type I have had no problems. I started the new type this Thursday nite. I had a bad taste in my mouth shortly after I took it. On Friday I took my first dose with food still had bad taste and my vision got bured for about and hour or more. When I took my next dose I took it with water and the bad taste came and my eyes when bury again. I don't know what they changed but but something is right. Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is actually stronger than Oxycodone. If you were taking 40mgs of Oxycontin, you would only need 20mgs of the Opana. Have been on opiates for chronic pain , 30yrs. Problem is OXY 40 mg, now are OP instead of OC. Im perscribed OC 40 mg. with the OP on the market the OC became the generic Oxycodone 40 mg. The question is there is Oxycontin 40 mg in capsules. Basicly is that equal to the Oxycodone 40 without the buffer in it ## There is no generic for Oxycontin, both the one with the OC and the one with the OP marking are made by Purdue, they just reformulated to help prevent abuse and discontinued manufacturing the original that had the OC marking. Oxycontin contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. As to the other formulations, no, there is none available in a 40mg dosage. The immediate release capsule is only available in a 5mg dosage and the regular release tablets are only available in a maximum dosage of 30mgs. Is there anything else I can help with?

So, if you were taking 80mgs of Oxycontin, you would need just 40mgs of Opana. Since it is a narcotic, the side effect profile is basically the same: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Does it hurt the op 40's if they are cut in half? I don't like to take the whole pill at once. ## Since these are time released tablets, it isn't advisable that you cut them in half, because even with the new formulation, it could still result in the Oxycodone being released faster, so you get too much in your body, at once. There are lower dosages available, have you tried asking your doctor about just prescribing a lower one? ## That's not correct you can cut them ## Yeah you can. Ive been taking the oxycontin for 10 yrs. best drug I ever had till the ops just came out. I only swallow them as directed. It used to take 30 min for me to feel them. Now its 3 hrs. and then it just slowly releases. A lortab is even better now. used to take a 40mg at 5 am-11am-and 5 pm. they worked great. some people I know couldnt take them for i made them drowsy or sick at their stomach. not for Me, it kept Me motivated and was perfect for my arthritis. [which is 24/7] my wrists are the size of baseballs. I need to find a substitute medication that will motivate me and not make Me sleepy. Can anyone help? I was prescribed both Oxycontin & Oxynorm in 2006 for chronic back pain in 2006, as you would know our system builds up a tolerance to opiods. I ended up on 80 mg of Oxycontin, twice per day & 20 mg of Oxynorm 3 times per day and other meds also. I was still in pain, I believe the weather also effects pain. I slept most of the day & night and had no quality of life and terrible memory loss. I was just reading everything on the site about oxy's. I used to abuse them and have found myself finally unfortunately I had to get arrested in the process but went to rehab and came out a new found person. I know someone who currently uses them because of the pain he has in his knee ankle and heel from a motorcycle accident he was in and currently has rumetory arthritis (spelled that wrong lol) but you got the hint. He just went to pick up his script for 60 pills and Walgreens had him sitting there for over an hour because they always tell him he needs the pre-authorization which is always sent by the doctor before he even goes to pick them up. So need less to say......he sat there for over an hour and was then told that THEY ARE DISCONTINUING 40 AND 80 MGS OPS AND OCS ALTOGETHER....

I am currently taking oxycontin 40 mg and I going from a private insurance plan to a Humana PPO Medicare advantage plan and they don't cover it. Some of the other option they recommend from humana was Methadone, Hydromorphone, Codeine Sulfate, Fentanyal Patch, Morphine, and oxycodone IR. I know Oxycodone is the same active ingredient oxycontin but I also take Oxycodone 15mg for breakthrough pain. It helps somewhat but it does help enough. My good day after taking the medicine and having my spinal cord stimulation implant device on is a 5 but an avg. day is 7.5. To give you a idea what a five to me is I broke both of my arms with one bone poking through was a 5.5 and that is a good day for me. My doctor is very hard to get him to increase my dose. I have been taking Opana er 40mg for over a year. My last refill was April 12, i was given a round pill with 40 on one side and E on the back. I am in constant pain! Any suggestions, I take 3 per day with 10/325 percocets 4x day. The pharmacy told the Dr. i must have been crushing my pills - i wasn't. For awhile, they have still had a supply of the original Oxycontin OC, however, since Purdue has discontinued it, once their supply is exhausted, Ethex will also only be able to provide the new Oxycontin OP.
