I just got the pills but I've been forgetting to take them like when I first got them I took it at 12pm and fell asleep woke up and took it at 2am then at 2pm then I fell asleep and just took one at 7:20 and I'm gonna tap one at 7:20 tonight will it still be effective? ## What medication are you asking about? I am sorry, but I can't really provide an answer, without knowing this additional information, since some medications do require precise dosing, in order to be effective, but not all. For instance, while an antibiotic says to take it every 12 hours, and that would be ideal, you also don't have to set your alarm to wake up and take it, it can wait a few hours, until you wake up. On the other hand, oral contraceptives are a medication that you have to be as precise ab...

Is Keflex (Cephalexin) in the same family as Mexapin? Can I take Mexapin if I'm allergic to Keflex? ## They are different antibiotics, but that doesn't guarantee that you won't find more that you are allergic to, that's the way it tends to work, those who are allergic to one, or more medications, usually discover more that cause allergic reactions. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My mother is taking a medication: one tablet every 12 hrs with food. We were wondering what times are best: 8am & 8pm or 9am & 9pm? Ehat do you suggest? ## It depends on if she has to take them with food or after meals. It also depends on what other medications she is taking. Some medications can't be taken with others. It would be best to call her pharmacist and ask because they should have a list of all of the medications she is taking. ## With food can also mean with glass of milk or a cracker. Doesn't have to be a "meal.. Any 12 hr gap is fine. ## I have to take a pill every 12 hours, if I take it at 8 , what time do I take the next one.

I have to take my meds every 12 hours. I took my first dose at 3pm. When do I take the next? ## The next dose should be taken at 3am, according to FDA guidelines. Thus, if you don't wish to be up at 3am, you may want to change your dosing schedule. What medication are you taking? Knowing this would enable me to provider with more precise information. ## 3 am and then the next day at 3 pm and so on. ## I'm taking a antibiotic for my sinus infection. It says to take it every 12 hours by mouth. So what does that mean? ## It means that you should take the recommended dose once every 12 hours. So if you took one dose at 9 am, you should take the next dose at 9 pm. Does that make sense? ## It depends on the drug. Is it time critical such as a diabetic med or an antibiotic. Diabetic me...

Take 1 Tablet every 6 hours for pain. How many is this a day? 3 or 4 ## Hello, Judy! How are you? That would be 4, as defined by the FDA, from what you've listed. However, if it is a prescription that says to take it as needed, then your doctor may not be expecting you to need 3 or 4 of them every day. Is there anything else I can help with?

How many doses would I be taking if I took them every 5 hours? Because if I started the time at 12am and went a full 24 hours, I'd take a dose at 8pm which is technically the last dose in 24 hours, because the next dose is at 1am which is passed the 24 hour mark; so wouldn't that be 4 in 24 hours? I'm confused here. ## If you take a dose every 6 hours, you'd be taking 4 in each 24 hour period, while some doses may overlap the given days, the most important part is to stay on that schedule of every 6 hours. I know it can be confusing, but time is purely a construct of man... so you are always going to have time periods that roll into each other. For example, I am a heart patient, I have one medication that I take every 8 hours, where those 8 hours fall doesn't matter,...

I would like to know if I can take two blue Percocet 5-325 every 4 to 6 hours? I had leg surgery. ## You should follow the prescribing instructions. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth, and headache. Are you on any other medications?

Just had surgery for a hernia. I was prescribed Norco 5/325, take 2 every four hours. Can I take 1 every 2 hours so I don't get that "Narcotic" feeling? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? Yes, you should be able to do that, but you should double check with your doctor to be sure. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

what does p eye mean? this is an antibiotic ## I have never seen that on a prescription before. Was it for some type of infection related to the eye? It's possible that it was just meant to refer to why you are supposed to take it, some doctors do that, when they write prescriptions. It is also possible that your doctor wrote something else and the pharmacy had trouble reading it and thought that's what it said. Which antibiotic are you taking?

I get a bit confused. I was taking Norco 7.5/325 every 8 hours and now taking Oxymorphone HCL ER 15mg every 12 hours. Should I take them at like 8 am & 8 pm and then the same the next day? To keep it on even times? That way I can mark it off on my appt. book. ## She told me only 2 per day, and that was it! ## I had a stroke and memory loss, and I just wanted to make sure I could keep myself on a schedule. ## Hello, Sam! How are you doing? Yes, that's fine and the best way to take them. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I am a 38yo female. 120lbs. I just had my tonsils out today and am in some pain but not a lot... My Dr prescribed 2 Norco 7.5/325 every 6 to 8 hours for pain. I have found that 6 hours is a pretty long time for me... I even have a hard time with 4 hours.... And 2 pills are WAY too much... I'm good with one really, could probably cut that in half as it is... I'm wondering if I can take .5 to 1 every 3 hours instead of 2 every 6 hours? ## While this medication may work for severe pain, there is some amount of soreness that nothing is really going to relieve for awhile. I had mine out, just before my 21st birthday, so I know how miserable it can be. As to the medication, you can safely cut it in half, but I'd not recommend not changing the dosing schedule, without asking your d...

My Dr, has me taking percocet every 4 hours it doens't help that much I have arthritis had 2 hip replacements but still have so much pain. I see my Dr. next week just wanted a second opinion. Thank you kindly. Jeanne ## This tablet contains 10mgs of Oxycodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen and if you're taking them every 4 hours, then you are taking 60mgs of the Oxycodone and 1,950 of the Acetaminophen in a day, which isn't necessarily a dangerous dosage of either one. What you really have to watch for is the effects it has on you and if it seems to be too much for you. Monitor your side effects, which may include: nausea, dizziness, constipation and drowsiness and if they are very severe, then you'll know if this amount is too much for you to take. Are there any other ques...

Have been taking OxyContin 5mg every 12 hours for about a year. How difficult to come off this drug? Am very tired and the dosage is not enough now. Don't want to take them any more. ## I think you'll be fine. If you are truly on only 10 mg a day, total, that is a crazy low dosage, and of course that wouldn't do anything for you really. Oxycodone is the drug in OxyContin, same as Percocet or Oxycodone IR except OxyContin is made to be time release. Most people with chronic pain are started out on 10 mg 3 times a day, which is a total of 30 mg per day. Even on 30 mg. I think withdrawal would be minimal. I goofed up on my meds once and had to go with almost nothing for a week and never have had any withdrawal. I would say at worst you may feel like you have a touch of the flu f...

I took a percocet 10-325 at 9 pm it's now 12:45 am and was wondering if I had to wait full 6 hours or can I take another ## Hello, Crystal! How are you? The Oxycodone in Percocet can be habit forming and, if you take it more frequently than as prescribed, you also run the risk of overdose, especially due to the Acetaminophen in it. Thus, it would be best to not change your dosing frequency, without your doctor's approval. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic that may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm having terrible pain with kidney stones. I was in an accident and the prescribed dosage isn't working. I have not checked with the doctor. ## Hello, Dee! How are you? The biggest risk is actually due to the Acetaminophen that's in it, because taking too much can risk causing liver damage, or liver failure, according to the NIH. Thus, it is best not to double up your dosage, without your doctor's approval. Are you on any other medications?
