Xy On Pill Bottle?

I was recently perscribed tylonal 3s with codine for pain for an absess in my tooth and on the bottle hand written in black pen is the letters xy what does that mean

Also I was perscribed penicilian at the same time and there is nothing hand written on that bottle

Those types of markings are just used by the pharmacy to show that the prescription and tablet count were double checked for accuracy.

It's often done with any medications that contain narcotics or other controlled substances, especially if the prescription was originally handled by a pharmacy technician. That marking shows that an actual pharmacist double checked everything, before you were given the pills.

It's really an extra way for the pharmacy to make sure they are in compliance with all prescribing laws and to protect you from possible errors.

There are 2 possible reasons that it's not on the penicillin bottle, one would be if the pharmacist filled it and there wasn't another person involved, such as a tech, or it's not their policy to double check all the other ones that aren't controlled substances.

For instance, at my pharmacy, if I picked up my blood pressure/cardiac medications, or my antacid, then I won't see a marking on them that shows they were double checked. However, I do have one medication that works as a diuretic and cardiac med, but since it works on Aldosterone, it will usually have the marking that it was double checked, because there are some people that will abuse such drugs and they have to be extra careful.

Thanks in retrospect I could have ask my girlfriends cousin who's a pharm tech lol and after acouple of days of taking the penicillin the pressure and pain has gone away and the absess has started to drain but thank you for sharing the info
