I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been a wreck all week after forgetting to refill and out of town. I was depressed and lifeless. My blood pressure dropped dramatically and I was so weak. My mental state was cut to zero tolerance and my wife said she was going to leave a few days if I didn't get help.
I took a tablet today but I feel like I'm in a vicious circle. I want off of these drugs. I going to find an alternative through research.
I would appreciate any feedback on alternate treatments.

The question we ALL need to be asking is, "What the H--- are the makers of Atvorstatin feeding us?" Where CAN we get the answers?

NO! NO! NO! NEVER, EVER double up on missed doses for LIPITOR...EVER!

All of the statins can cause depression, anxiety, liver and kidney problems, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue. if you choose to stop these drugs, taper them and work with your doctor. Side effects may or may not be reversable.

I did not refill my Lipitor as I had forgotten. It was one week and I began to have severe depression and was physically drained. My blood pressure dropped and I had thoughts of suicide. My wife was very concerned once we determined I was not taking the drug. I am 66 and feel like I'm 86. I ache all over and my joints burn and sting as well as a stiff neck. I'm an entertainer and have to take Advil to do my routine and then afterwards take two more. I walk three miles a day and dance once a week. I'm wore out. I want off this stuff but don't know an alternative other than a very stringent diet.

One year ago I stopped taking Lipitor and had a whole gamete of side effects including aches, pains, low blood pressure, depression and foggy head. I reverted to taking it in small amounts and weaned myself off. Although on a strict diet, my total cholesterol jumped to 280. I now take a product called CholesLo without any of the statin side effects that I had been taking. After 3 months of taking this product, my total cholesterol dropped to 250. I have not checked it lately. I feel great!

I'm thinking red rice extract.

Red rice extract is exactly in statin medicines- I tried that before CholesLo and I started having the same muscle cramping as when I took the statins , so I stopped it. Then took CholesLo with no side effects. I was told that one of the pharmaceutical was suing the makers of red rice yeast due to their content of it in statins.

Wow. Good info but. All a bunch of rookies. Been on 80mg. Of lipitor for like 13 year's. Feel like a lab rat. The first year was terrible. Had moment when I lost memory so bad daily activities were nearly impossible. Had accident at work. Lost my job. Found new better job thank goodness. Felt like I worked out in the gym all the time. Even when I did not. I scrap heavy steel for extra income. I have pulled like every muscle I can think of at least once. Still have pulled muscle in my back. Now my legs feel weak. No strength. I need to be careful when picking up 120 pluss pounds. Use to be easy. Feel tired even when I just get out of bed. And always got a dull ache all over. Has anyone sent a nasty gram to FDA. Doctor Robert Jarvis. He advertise lipitor like it was candy. The doctors got huge kick backs. For prescribing the stuff. The commercial were hi Iam doctor Robert Jarvis. And I take the stuff. Eat right and work out like 3 days as week. What a croc. I work 50 hours a week. Cut fire wood on the weekends. I can still bench press a bull dozer. No joke. Strong as a ox. But have concerns if I stay that way.

Yes, just take your regular dose at your usual time again should be ok.
I am off Lipitor for the next few weeks because of financial reasons
even though I shouldn't because of my heart attack and stroke a few years ago
when I was 55.
I was off Lipitor before and didn't have any withdrawal symptoms or die from it.

I was put on lipitor for cholesterol control. After about a week on it I was getting lost in my home town that has only one mainstream and 7-8 side streets. I went off it and no longer had problems But I returned to the doctor and we discussed it.. The decision I need to be on it because of the high cholesterol. I asked to be put on a low dose every other day. Its working, no memory problems and cholesterol levels are down to acceptable levels.

I stopped taking Lipitor cold turkey 2 months ago. I am wondering if this is harmful as I don't have in insurance at the time. I've been feeling lousy but haven't attributed this the fact that I've stopped taking the medicine.

I'm a 70-year-old female who has been on 20 mg of Lipitor for 20 years. I went off of Lipitor a month ago and I'm experiencing some shakiness I am wondering if this is a side effect. I was told to go off of it cold turkey and I'm beginning to wonder if that was bad advice.?

I am suffering the same sypmtoms. It's day 3 since stopping the statins and I am losing it. I came on here to see if it was just me and feel grateful to know it's not. Thanks so much for your post! How long did it take for you to get back to "normal"?

I had all of the symptoms before taking Lipitor. They got worse.! Nothing can be worse.
Perhaps your withdrawals were a result of already having the mental issues already being present.
Often mood disorders turn into conversion disorder.
Perhaps the withdrawals drew out more rapidly what was already there.
I'm saying this hopefully without offending you but I feel it has to be said because been there did that.
My Psych put me on Liothyronine Sodium.
My emotions quickly got unfer control and the Lipitor is out the door!
I quit hurting, headaches went away, on and on. Wild horses couldn't get that poison down me ever again.
Good luck

Yes, we need a new type of Doctor that is not dependent on Drug Companies and who can handle the fall out of what these statins are doing to people and the hell we go through in the withdrawal of these drugs. Just reducing my dose of Crestor from 20mgs to 10 and then 5 caused a hell that stopped me from working and induced other illnesses in my life. Do not take statins if you are just trying to lower cholesterol and you do NOT have a history of heart disease in your family. I don't know if this drug is even good for anything. But this is my own experience. Drug companies and doctors are completely irresponsible about what this drug is doing to people.

I have been on statin drugs for 16 years for high cholesterol. My father has high cholesterol and it seems it must run in the family. At any rate, I have been on lipitor the longest, but was also on Crestor for awhile and Pravachol. I did not notice any problems for at least 14 years. In 2013 I began noticing menopausal symptoms. I noticed my thigh muscles were very, very sore quite often. It just kept getting worse and I chalked it all up to hormonal changes from menopause. Finally in Sept 2015, I could not stand the muscular pain, that was now in my arms and legs. I suspected fibromyalgia (and I have never even been a believer in this disease). I always knew that muscle pain was a side effect of statin drugs. I stopped taking lipitor (40 mg) around the 3rd week in Sept. Within 2 weeks I noticed a marked improvement in my muscle pain. After 10 weeks off the lipitor I am pain free. I haven't been pain free in over 2 years. I have to admit I did not notice any side effects of stopping lipitor, except perhaps one...and I'm not sure it's a side effect of stopping lipitor. In the past few months I have been having what appears to be nerve pain in the heel of my right hand. It's the only place I have this pain. It usually strikes me when I reach my arm far out in front of me. Stabbing pins and needles pain, very sharp and fast. Not sure if it could be associated with carpal tunnel syndrome (30+ years of mouse use on the computer) or if it's related to an injury to my shoulder, possible impinged nerve or bursitis. I have been a few points too high in my blood sugar level for the past few years too, so it's possible the neuropathy is coming from that. I haven't noticed any "brain fog", anxiety, suicidal thoughts or sleep issues that others mention. I feel 200% better than I did when on lipitor. I am taking CoQ10 to help with my cholesterol levels. I will see dr. again in the next 60 days for evaluations. Has anybody else noticed nerve pain from stopping lipitor?
