I am a DOT CST (drug screen)collector and they do check for all opiates. Hydrocodone included.

I have been on suboxone since 2005. I have passed every DOT EXAM and other companies test. I have never failed a drug test for anybody. I am a class a driver. The only downside to all this is if you have been on them for a long time, you do feel sometimes like your handcuffed. Meaning you need the meds and you can not take a road trip without. Tried to come off many times under the care of my dr, I couldn't. I will try again and again until I do. I just hope I don't go back to that other s***. This medication saved my life and my marriage more than once.

I have always wanted to ask someone in an HR position a few questions. First I have always worked desk jobs so danger isn't a factor for me. I am prescribed anxiety and a light pain medication. Do some companies secretly discriminate against this? Also I can't even tell when these low dosages kick in so I never have that high look or any change in personality so do they look at that also? I could understand if I was acting different.

I just want to be sure b4 I take it. Typically it's a minuscule amount, however if my U/A is dirty again without a prescription I'm DONE.

..... if you're taking Subs, it is because you have issues with natural production of Endorphins due to some form of opioid replacement. Whether you were given pain medicine for an injury or simply became addicted due to purposely abusing opioids for a high the effect is the same. For a period of time after stopping an opioid the body will not produce the required endorphins (and more) which allow a person to function normally. Once the withdrawal period has ended, the person can go back to regular life (with some lasting effects such as years of insomnia for examp). The individual is very likely to experience cravings and relapse rate is HIGH! If you're taking subs you want to re-think any career which is going to require you to drop the medication. Sure it can be done..... but have you tried quitting subs yet? Do you think it's smart to be like "well hey, I'm clean now. I used to have a problem with oxy and heroin but with suboxone I was able to stop all that. Now I am a normal regular person who goes to work every day. Now I that I feel great about myself (thanks to the help of suboxone) and I no longer need oxy/heroin, I'm going to enter a career which requires 3 or 4 times per month drug testing."

One of the most common effects of Suboxone is it's Amazing ability to take a dope fiend who is completely unhirable or unfriendable and within 1 day of taking the medication the user begins to feel "Normal." After only a week or two of taking Subs, it is NOT uncommon for the user to actually believe that they are cured. It feels like they are cured. They act Cured. Their finances seem cured. They seem hireable. Now, lets say the user loses his pills one month..... loses ALL of them. Doctors are often weary about replacing lost/stolen Bupe. What happens to the user? They regress to being sick in withdrawal and their mind has ZERO chance of ignoring the possibility of using Oxy/Heroin to remove the withdrawal symptoms.

Don't let the Bupe trick you to thinking you're normal. Don't try to start a career (especially if it costs money for school or start-up) which is going to come to a GRINDING HAULT once you have 1 mistake on a drug test.

Look at another job. Maybe in 5 to 7 years after getting off Bupe/subs then you could handle being a DOT driver. Don't be one of those people who are like "i can do this. i have will power. I'm stronger than you. I can prove it to myself." and remember the only person who cares about your career is you (and maybe your dependents). Before you try to make a decision that could affect your family's income...... ask yourself: have i tried to quit bupe for even 1 year? have you tried it for 6mo? have you tried to quit for 1 month?

So what? People on subs should stay at home and sit on their hands doing nothing with their lives? It saves lives. It allows families to stay together and keeps people out of prison. Don't put people down who are going in the right direction. Don't think people classify themselves as normal just BC they are taking a medication either. Anyone who has been addicted to something like lortabs are painfully aware that suboxone must be properly managed as without it they know they'll be in a world of hurt, but with it they can be proper functioning members of society.

Most companies, such as C.R. England and Schneider, are also doing a secondary follicle test. From a website that claims that they are the company for them and others like them, they show the normal 5 plus an additional few that are optional for a total of 8 or 9 dcalls tested in all. Suboxone is not on that list.

Can anyone confirm this from personal experience with the hair follicle test?

I have a CDL Class A License. My problem is I'm going for a pre-employment test to drive OTR for US Xpress. They require their own training. I've been prescribed Subs for the past 6 months. 16mgs a day. I specifically asked the recruiter who told me "they test for everything," but didn't seem that knowledgeable about the medication and sent me a waiver form my doctor says he cant sign off on. "Everything" sounded more like a scare tactic but I'm still worried. I've been told The DOT and most carriers don't test for it. It's a urinalysis and I'm pretty sure its just a 5 panel like most places, but I don't know and I'm scared is all. I use it as prescribed and for therapeutic uses, as I'm a Marine Veteran with pain and some depression issues. I've never been in an accident in my life. I'm just scared of traveling half was across the country with my last few bucks, only to be turned away. People kill themselves over less drama than that so its pretty important to me. If anyone knows that can help I'd appreciate it. Just trying to get my life together.

in my case I've never taken oxies or heroin. I only took lortab in the proper amount for a spinal cord injury that an anesthesiologist caused me to have permanent migraines for several years. that is until i found a nerve block treatment then started seeing a chiropractor that helped as well. i haven't taken anything but subs .5mg in the past 3 years and prior to that i took only suboxone for 3 years. you cant make a claim like that without realizing that not all cases are the same. each individual is different. i've never been reckless with medications. i've never taken them for a high. but i did learn the hard way that the pain meds doctors give out like candy can mess your live up all the same. and people get classified by those who dont know any better as unable to live productive lives or not trustworthy. i'm a mother of two and have a beautiful life. i'm talented and have alot going for me already. I am one year to completing my bachelors degree. i have absolutely no reason to be thought of as not able to do anything just because i take a medication that i don't even feel. it only stops bad problems that happen if i don't take it at least every other day. i usually skip a day because i dont need it. i have a ton left over because i take way less than what i'm prescribed. it naturally makes you not want to take as much over time due to the naloxone in it. i am normal when i take it. it doesn't hinder anything in my life. it doesnt hold me back. i know from 9 years of experience. there is a huge difference between taking a lortab and taking a suboxone. the difference is that it doesn't hinder your cognitive abilities what so ever. if it is properly managed and taken properly there is no reason why anyone would know any difference of someone taking it verses someone else. in fact everyone thought i just stopped taking the pain meds. they had no idea i was taking suboxone the whole time. i only even think to take it when i'm going to sleep and realized i havent taken it in a couple days. you totally dont know what you are talking about.

From all of my research, everyone says that DOT is a 5 panel which does not test for synthetic opiates. No subs, no oxy and other things like that. However, the company I'm going to work for does a hair follicle test so I dont know if that's the same or not. Most that I've seen says they test for sometimes more things but Suboxone is still not one of them. plus my hair is bleached once a month, sometimes more, and dyed crazy colors. so idk if that effects it or not. most people say it will bleach out any results.

Surely you didn't direct your comment at me and my previous comment because that would indicate to me that you barely read but rather skimmed what I wrote for things which interested you. I am a Bupe patient. I have been on and off this stuff more than just once. I have also experience Methadone treatment. I've experienced Cold Turkey Isolation treatments where someone ignorant of the true nature of Opioid addiction throws you into a room or cell and tells you to "man up." When I use the word Ignorant I am using it in it's literal context which does not mean 'stupid' or anything like it. Any time a person assumes/believes that they know all there is to know on any given topic when there does exist further information one could use to become more knowledgeable on a given topic. Actually my feelings are unless a person makes a point to check for updated information on the given topic before arguing a point or giving a lecture, one is remaining ignorant.

I certainly didn't say or even imply that a person should 'sit on their hands and do nothing.' Nothing I said even hinted to that, which is why I'm not 100% sure you were talking to me.

What I did say was while One are on subs, you should focus primarily on your recovery. This is not as easy as it may sound (which it shouldn't sound easy at all) because One may find that groups like Narcotics Anonymous may actually be a bit judgmental towards One. This is what I noticed in my experiences, many people in NA may not outwardly and directly say this but if One tells the group that they are getting help trough the use of Suboxone; individuals or possibly even the group as a whole may react with something like 'Hey that's kind of cheating. The people in this room have made a personal choice to get off and stay off drugs and this person is coming here ON drugs which are meant to prevent withdrawal.' Someone may say "I had to go through withdrawal, what make you special that you get to keep using just because a doctor is giving it to you?' Now I'm not saying that is going to happen to anyone reading this, that is just what I experienced. One group asked me to leave. I would advise that anyone using buprenorphine be very selective about who they tell, keeping in mind that this era people are Google geniuses. As any bupe user knows a quick Google search will bring results like "is an effective medication for the treatment of opiate addiction; however, when abused it can be addictive and harmful." WOW! Can One imagine how many ways a person could take that? For this reason I tell almost no one that I am taking it. People will not look at it as "oh he's getting help that's great," even if they say something like that.

My point on my previous post was: A person using bupe to get away from pain pills, etc, still has a long way to go. They are headed in the right direction certainly. My advice is to not select a career which will require one to be a perfect drug-free angel. A DOT driving job is not a good idea at all because one slip-up could really cost you. While a 5 panel drug test will NOT show buprenorphine, nor will a 10 panel or a 15 panel, if an accident happens they may send your urine to the lab for a Mass Spectrometry test which will identify anything in your blood. A drug test is different, they use specific reagents which when they come into contact with the metabolite of the targeted drug will cause a color change on a strip. These type of drug tests which say Opioid on that section of the test will NOT test you positive for buprenorphine. They do however make test cups which have THC, COC, MDMA, METHAMPHETAMINE and so on and so on.... but it also has BUPE and each one has a strip next to it. If two lines appear -- PASS, but if one line appears - FAIL. If the second line shows up just barely they may send off the urine for the Mass Spec.

So what if one goes though CDL training classes. I had been done this. I signed up for classes at West GA Tech and was attending school. I bought myself a Whizzinator which is a fake wiener with a pissbag and synthetic piss that fits like underwear. Yeah I used this thing to pass my first DOT 5 Panel but the more and more I thought about it, the more I learned from class, the more i understood that I was going to be randomly tested upwards of 3 times per month on average. Depending on who hires me. So what I ended up doing was effectively wasting all the money that I spent on the classes. So my advise to anyone is: pick a job that isn't going to test you like that.

MOST jobs only test one time when they hire One and only ever again if One gets injured.

I just thought of another Factor which hasn't been brought up in this conversation at all. Has anybody seen any of those TV commercials with lawyers offering to sue truck drivers who've been involved in an accident? They offer to represent anybody who's been in an accident where a semi truck was involved. They offered to get the "victim" the most money for their suffering. Now I know that I have seen accidents on the freeway where it's been like 10 car 15 car bumper to bumper pile-ups. Where Maybe a passenger car was the first vehicle in the accident and a semi truck several cars back slid into the situation. Now it may not have even been the fault of the truck driver, however these lawyers Target only the truck driver. Their defense (or offensive strategy) is to say that the truck driver was not paying enough attention and that he could have avoided the situation and because he didn't he is at fault for injuring his client. These lawyers are scumbags and scoundrels, they will do and say anything to get a judge to pass a judgement on to the truck driver. Then the truck, driver in order to clear his name, will be asked to take a drug test. It probably won't be a urine test. It will probably be a blood test. And they will send it for a Mass spectrometer analysis which will reveal Every chemical in your system. Now are you willing to see what's going to happen when they find out that you had buprenorphine in your system at that time?

I have a question, i have been taking a quarter a day of subs for a few months
If i get a hair follicle test will it show up in a job drug test? I am very active, workout everyday.
A guy i know took a job drug test and it was a hair follicle, he is older and has been on them for years, it came back with the doctor asking him if he was on subs.

What would make you think that being active and fit would have any bearing on drugs being in your hair follicles? While your follicles are alive, your hair is dead. When It comes to hair tests, hair is a chronological map which can be used to tell what drugs you have done and exactly how long it has been since the last time you did it. Shave your head/face/pubes and get a wax job of your entire body and then nothing can be seen about what you've done up to the point which you shaved. I would say that since they actually pluck the hair out of the skin, they are going to look at hair length even under the skin layer. I'll reroute back around to what I say every time I post here...... If you're taking bupe, it's because you have a chemical dependency issue. You need to give up this idea of a DOT career until you can successfully live without bupe for at least 6 months. People will tell you it might not show up on a 5 panel. What I said below is: if you're involved in a 5 car pile-up that was NOT your fault, there will still be lawyers who will try to sue you for the sake of a big payout. These lawyers don't care. If they can get money from anything they perceive as a mistake on your part they will try it. If there is an accident and they find a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE NARCOTIC in your body or in any recent time in your body's history you may be in some s***.
