What Were The New Laws Put In Place About Pain Meds

Updated

I have chronic pain due to a accident in 2001, nd again in 2003. I have spinal stenosis, scoliosis, lower lumber sprain, nd redicolopothy! I 've been on 30mg of Oxycodon pop has reduced my dose to 90 pills. No I don't have any addiction I always take my meds as prescribed. But my doctor told me he had to cut my dosage down due to DEA. I went to a pain management Dr, who insulted me by telling me I need to take his personals injections, nd start doing physical therapy. Mind you my Orthopedic surgeon, has state that my condition is so bad the Injections nor physical therapy would help me. But this nut case. Insist that I'm another person of color on drugs. Help

Hello, Barbara! How are you?

Yes, that is correct. There were new regulations put in place last year that restrict how much your doctor can prescribe of such medications. The only exceptions are for those with intractable pain from a potentially terminal condition, such as stage 4 cancer.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you ever tried the injections or therapy? There's no way the surgeon can know for sure that they won't help you.

Go to the DEA website. It states that the DEA does not have limits on these meds for any diagnosis. Some insurance companies do and if you have Medicaid, your state may have limits on how much Medicaid will pay for, but not how much the dr can prescribe. Some state medical boards may recommend certain limits, but it is always left up to the treating physician. If the medication has to be taken for chronic pain, the prescription can't be for more than 30 days at a time. But, this is nothing new. If you take a med twice a day, there is a limit of 2 tablets every day, which is 60 a month, but no limit on the mg of the tablet. If you take a med three times a day, it can't be more than 90 tablets, but there is no limit on the mg of the tablets.

Maybe the person that believe there are limits can post a link to that info.

I'm having the same issue. These injections are a total waste of money. They "may" work for a week. I've had a ton and never again. Total waste of my insurances money. Whatever this DEA is, well I say doctor need to look at each patient differently and "KNOW" what they need. I'm come to the conclusion, is just all about the Old Mighty Dollar. I have seen a ton of doctors and I've had TWO that actually care about me and my health. Anyone else out there experience this same issue?
