That is such a dumb question. That is exactly what it made for of course it will work. If he's actually "dedicated" to stop

I've been on methadone for a year and a half, and just switched to subs. If you have not being able to obtain a considerable amount of clean time(a.k.a, a chronic relapser, such as yours truly) and your length of use is over a year( mine was 8! Holy s*** riiiggghhht?)then I strongly urge you to do the methadone. S*** got me away from the ritual and those nasty peoples(btw, don't associate with ANYONE at a clinic, no matter how cool they may seem, cuuuuuzzzz they're not). But subs are great aftercare or if your length of usage is short! That isall!

Hello,

I also live in N.E. Georgia, in Clayton. A pain med center's M.D. has been prescribing Roxycodone for multiple degenerative joint injuries for a year. Of course my tolerance went up; I was totally unprepared (or naive) to the speed at which oxycodone addicted you and how fast you would need more and more. I now take 120 mg a day and 150 is starring me in the face and it is now causing all the problems an addict undergoes, I see no end and that I was naive to..

I tried to quit on my own, I hear that it only takes 3 to 4 days but I am not strong enough. I do not want to take this anymore, .I know that I will be forced to live with a lot of pain and restrictions but I don't care. What is the doctors name that you see and where is he/she located? I have to get off this roller-coaster, I want my old life back; I can't live in this world of constant dependency and worry I will run out. It is becoming too much for me to handle.

Hello Screwed Up; I feel your pain both literally and figuratively. I'm a chronic pain sufferer and have been for the better part of 25 years. I also was put on some very strong doses of oxy for a few years and I’m not going to lie to you, it’s hard getting off this stuff. However, Suboxen is your best bet and there are literally dozens of drug addiction treatment facilities where you live that can supply you Suboxen. Don’t believe people when they tell you it takes only 3-4 days to kick because it’s not true. It sounds like you have a sufficient amount of the drug in your system and it might take a few weeks for the drug to be totally out of your physical system, but you will have to deal with the depression and lack of energy for many months to come. Again, I don’t want to scare you, but you do need to know the truth. Let me know how it works out for ya because these type of sites that you posted on really help out. Take care and good luck with your recovery.

Just google addiction/suboxone doctors in your area. Some accept insurance or Medicaid but some clinics are cash only and the monthly doctor appointment plus prescription costs can be high. If you don't have health coverage search all doctors in the surrounding area and compare prices. If you then have a problem with script costs the pharmaceutical company that makes subs has a program that will cover the cost for a year. Only if they don't have their patient max yet, sub docs are only allowed a 100 patient max and only three of those enrolled in the free prescription program. If you're serious about getting over your addiction then you should start looking for a physician soon, sub treatment is on the rise and could cause you to wait anywhere from 2weeks to six months. GOOD LUCK!

A couple of you gave me very helpful advise; Thank you. I am going to start right away.

But, I sure wish I knew the difficulty that I would face before hand. I did ask questions and the discussion revolved around multiple areas of degeneration and pain impairing my ability to work. The "cure" for which would mean 3 major surgeries on 3 different areas to be done over a years time. I tried to gut through it and that lasted a couple of years.until I just couldn't take it anymore. It was all verified by MRI and other physicians opinions.

But, as I said, I was naive or stupid or whatever you want to call me so I went to the doctor that several suggested . Painkillers worked at the start and I tried to find work elsewhere, in a different field. But, I have done my job for over 30 years and I am not qualified to do anything else. Plus, if I can't perform at my work (due to a years worth of surgery an rehab), they will find someone else who can; there is no loyalty and I will lose the meager insurance that I have.

When I went on the meds prescribed by the doctor; I was very open that I expected to do this until I could find something else that could, at least, save me from losing my home. I asked many questions and I made it clear that I would do this as a bridge to secure my life and then I would get off the drugs.

I was told that wouldn't be a problem; and now I find out that it will take a month in very expensive rehab; or possibly a year on a very expensive drug. This will very easily mean no work; they drug test in my line of work. This has already cost me two job opportunities even though the meds were being prescribed by an M.D., they were considered a red flag.

SO, here I sit with an increasing tolerance, paying large amounts of money monthly, with not much hope of being able to afford the suboxy without a job. I should have been told the whole story! I don't care if I was stupid I should have been told the consequences of getting off the merry go round, I definitely would have made a different choice.

I'll talk to my doctor next visit and see what he recommends. Let's hope I can do whatever is required and keep my job, or I am truly screwed.

Most employers don't even know what subs are and definitely don't test for it! You shouldn't have an issue. I work for a Fortune 500 corporation and they didn't test for it.

Thank you, that helps to ease at least one worry. I have the possibility of passing the drug test and getting a decent job. One that will put a lot less stress on my joints and still pay the bills. Sounds like what I have been looking for, for years. Now to get rid of this drug. I just have to get back my life and I will never go back.

OBTW, anyone who is considering the medical model of pain meds and anti inflammatory meds...DON'T DO IT! IT COULD EASILY, AND QUICKLY, CHANGE YOU LIFE FOREVER; AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY!

Doctors lately seem to have forgotten the Hippocratic oath they took and concern themself more with pharmaceutical "endorsement" then practicing REAL medicine. Going to pain management and when I go to my suboxone doctor feels the equivalent to ringing up my local pill dealer.... I can heal most infections and treat symptoms better with the herbs and food in my fridge then most prescription and OTC meds...

Well I just saw my "Pain Management" doctor and discussed using suboxin. His answer was that he didn't use Suboxin. I asked why, he litterally didn't answer. He said he just doesn't. When I asked about other doctors in his clinic (there are 4 ) he said he has no idea what the other doctors did. When I asked him what clinics or which doctors did use suboxin he ignored me even after I repeatedly asked the question. He then cut my prescription by 40%. When I told him that was too much, especially with me trying to work, he waived his hand at me, dismissively, and said..."don't worry man, you will do fine" and walked out the door.

When I gave the prescription to the pharmacist he asked me if I realized that the doctor had cut my prescription to that degree? I said yes; he then told me that could be dangerous and was very unusual. He told me to contact my doctor and ask him to handle this a different way. I called my doc at least 5 times in the past week, he has not, and probably will not, return my calls.

I wantred to know is suboxin used to treat pain?I have to say I myself have been addicted to opiates for almost 13yrs now. When I first started I was young and could bounce back up quick from a withdrawl, but now I have aged 10yrs down the road it is getting very hard.I have also retreated to methadone treatment and it for me was the best thing i could have done for myself.During the 5 yrs I was in the methadone clinic I did not use any opiates and did not even crave.Because I did not use any drugs during these 5yrs, I was granted take homes/bottles and also vacation bottles.Basically if you stick to the program and have clean drops the doctor will let you leave town, I have even done out of town dosing in a whole different state.I had a great counselor as well.I will tell you from my own experience methadone is frowned upon by alot of people at least here in Michigan I live just outside of Detroit and was going through a bad custody battle over my 3 yr old son, the judge was shocked that I was on methadone for 5yrs and I was shocked that I was being so looked down for going to a clinic thats legal, considering almost all the years I was on H, I was in and out of jail and just got sick of that life and was told about methadone.I decided to see if I could get off the methadone because of all the negativity that everyone including my family members were insinuating plus I was turned down for a life insurance policy I tried to get for my children. Prudential said that I would have to be 4yrs off methadone before they would even consider giving me a policy and that really peed me off so thankfully I found a pain doctor that helped me and some times I think to myself I am doomed for the rest of my life because of I hate pain especially now that I am an addict.I will just get to the point and after 5yrs on methadone I quit methadone on October 15th 2013 was my last dose of methadone at 109mgs and my new doctor gave me 120 Norco 120 zanzx and almost 400 methadone tabs to ween off the methadone, needless to say I did ween off the methadone but started eating the Norcos like Miss Pac Man next month will be 1 yr off of methadone I have now relapsed in the year off the methadone too many times to count, so then I decided I did not want to go back to the clinic so I looked at my choices and chose to try suboxin. I know mentally when I take suboxin 2 8mgs tabs a day that I cannot get high.It does not take any pain I have away which I can live with I just never want to withdraw again so now my goal is to maintain suboxin treatment and I also have been off zanax for 2 months. It is hard for me right now but I am happy to be alive today and I keep very busy everyday. I think that not every 2 people are alike and I just try to be careful and I really do hope the best for everyone

Two post replies-

@Blujay. Most suboxone doctors are specialized in using it to treat addiction to methadone only. So when calling an addiction center make sure to clarify that you were prescribed methadone for pain but you have become addicted. Most likely they will want you to wean down the methadone as much as possible before seeing you. And even then you will officially be seen as an addiction client, which the only con to that is if by chance in the future you tried for traditional pain management....we all know how doctors can stigmatize .

@Badboy
That probably answered your question too. I hope :)

Good luck guys!

Make sure it's all out of your system first cause if you take the subs before your fully withdrawing you'll be more dope sick than you ever have in your life. But with all my heart i truly recommend subs i shot up H for 7 years and am now 8 months sober thanks to it. Best of luck...it's worth it

Hey Carrie, I do need some extra support, just someone to talk to about my addiction to oxycodone. I rely on the experience of others to keep my sanity and hope.

I personally haven't but other side effects I have are; headaches, uhhh my bowel movements aren't as consistent as they were, thus I've put on weight because I'm always hungry and never 'doodoo', now I'm fat. And sometimes I almost get this weird stress feeling in my head, like a frustrated feeling, like when I used to feel high. No muscle aches though at least not for me.
