What Drugs Can Cause A False Positive For Heroin

I had a drug test come back at my Dr for heroin and I have never done the stuff, however I do take methadone and oxycodone.

I failed a urine test for heroin never even seen it in my life, the night before I was in the er and got a shot of morphine , this has to be a false positive or a huge mistake , my life is in jeopardy I'm ill and in severe and chronic pain 24/7 I can't lose my pain doctor please help!!!

I just lost my DR. 2 days ago for same thing! I was actually in a state of shock. I came home crying and everyone in my home knows I am not at all for street drugs at all.My husband was a minister and we devoted over 20 yrs...to helping get heroin addicts to get help...Alcoholics too! I would never ever touch the stuff. I was so out of it when I was told by this Dr whom I loved and looked forward to seeing each month, that he was told by the head dr to let me go. I kept insisting it couldn't be my urine...something had to be wrong...No he said the 6 mas or whatever shows it's specifically heroin and was done a 24 hour period before my test...I couldnt even see the rest of test as i was so shaken & crying, I just could not believe what w'as happening! I am a model pain patient.All my family knows, and kept saying, but u are so careful!...its not u!!!IAnd heroin they all said..of all people they no, I would never touch it! and anyone who got 120 roxycodone a month, why 24 hours before appt. would they do that! Having 120 roxy's a month means more to a chronic pain patient then a bag of heroin...I dont have it in me to do street drugs,so my life will go down the drain as I cannot move,as I have severe nerve damage and torn discs all over, Rhuemitoid arthritis, hepc from a small butterfly tattoo I got in the 1970's! am in chronic, agonizing pain. My dr looked like after 3 yrs of knowing me he was shocked. I could only tell him that he knows my condition and he even tried to up my meds) as, I also have no shoulder or rotter cuff pending operation to replace it this summer...He looked like he felt so bad, sad, confused at this news himself...Told me head dr said he could not give me a weaning schedule for the roxycodone...I desperately asked what am I to do.I am coming off of 3 addictive medicines all at once for no good reason as I know all I put in me was what he gave me.I wont even take cold meds! I got home and went over the test with fine toothcomb...the day was wrong my urine was taken...It was the day of my original appt. which was changed to 4 days ahead to attend a funeral..the weight was 146lbs. 5'2..I never even weighed that pregnant!I am 5'5 106... In fact, the only day my weight was taken in the 3 years, was the day I was asked to leave!to make matters worse this was first urine taken in this new office.The girls in other office that closed, tried talking me into NOT going to marlboro office.wanted me to travel an hour away to Islen. in which ameritrox who did actual testing, always took your tests in their hand, asking, everything you were on...Here my urine was grabbed from me, no questions asked,and taken to other urines sitting there. i had gut feeling to go to her and make sure all i took was on test etc she threw me off as if i was questioning her job,saying she knows what she is doing...I left feeling strange that day..telling myself if a med was forgotten, doc would no what he had me on...instead I come back to be told I took heroin 24 hours before my dr appt.

Your post could have been written by me. I keep to myself, follow the guidelines set out by my current doctor, have never taken anything illegal, don't drink, not even coffee. After a second cervical fusion, which I lost two months of my life simply because the pain was so severe, my nervous system chose for me not to have any memory of what I had endured, first fusion c4-c6, second fusion c3-c7 and three lumbar disc's with eleven level five tears total, for second time, ( had an I-DET to repair torn disc's from a prior accident), with a fifth spinal discogram behind me, out of the blue a P.A., decided a urine test was in order. My pain doctor was out of office, this P.A. tried to completely take me off pain medication four months after second cervical fusion, again pain doctor had been out of office. My daughter phoned my husband, who at the time was out of the state, explained what had happen to her father with P.A., you have to realize this pain doctor and his partner wanted to up my medication, husband told the pain doctor's nurse I needed medication, still had severe spinal pain, daughter went back to clinic to pick-up prescription. Later that day I receive a call from a "concern" pharmacy manager lecturing me on pain medication and teenagers, daughter was twenty-one and no longer living at home My medication is put in a safe, for safety reason's, written when I received the prescription, " keep in secure location to avoid young children from harm". I had been in chronic pain at the time for a total of twenty-five years due to automobile accidents and lack of true care during the entire twenty-five years, so I truly thought I had found a doctor I could trust and along comes Ameritox. And yes, I was rushed through filling out Ameritox paperwork, the nurse said "DON'T WORRY, no need to fill out all that nonsense". Guess I should have, first and foremost the sample container was handed to me seal broken and not bagged! The chain of custody was twenty-five days long!!! Ameritox received urine sample eleven days after I gave sample, then waited another fifteen days to test it! It came back positive for heroin. I paid for another urine test by a licensed testing facility, which came back within the parameter of what I was taking, no heroin, my doctor refused the urine test, I then had a hair test taken, again negative for heroin. He refused what ended up being three tests, paid by me!

Ameritox was taken to court by Millennium Laboratories, a judge permanently prohibited Ameritox claiming its' product can determine or confirm compliance and if a patient was dismissed based on Ameritox testing, they have the means into which they can take legal action. I have spoken with those who analyze urine samples, but somehow mine had "disappeared" from Ameritox. As of today June 1, 2015, Ameritox and Millennium are still at war with one another. Because of what the P.A. and Ameritox did I waited a total of eight years to have lumbar surgery, causing permanent nerve damage around spinal area due to lack of care and lost another cervical disc, c2-c3 fused itself, thanks to Ameritox and the total lack of care by doctor I saw after being dismissed, they figuring I was a heroin addict, the one and only cervical disc left is torn and herniated. Trying to find another doctor I could trust, who didn't treat me as though I'm a heroin addict has been a rough depressing awful embarrassing, forever in my medical records, mess. An illegal drug I have no idea where to begin to find, let alone take. If you know in your heart the false positive is wrong, fight it, by all mean! And do research on Ameritox, they're not accredited by SAMHSA, but by the DEA! which doesn't hold much in the way of true toxicology, started by doctors, sold to venture capitalist, using a ridiculous database that somehow magically knows how those of us within same weight, height, age and medication taken knows how we metabolize our medication! 6-MAM shows up in our brains naturally, so if one is taking more than one opiate within same type, who's to say drinking an energy drink with vitamin b's doesn't increase the performance of medication, does the Ameritox paperwork even ask what the patient has or hasn't eaten with medication? By the way, the "concern" pharmacy manager, was not a concern pharmacy manager, HIPAA laws forbid the pharmacy I use to call patient's to lecture them about their lifestyle! I totally understand what you felt like. Hope it got resolved. I have been in pm for over 10 years. I have a multitude of chronic pain issues that would take up the entire page. The only thing I have ever taken was what was prescribed to me. The pm facility recently switched from urine to swabbing. I went in for my monthly check up and was told my swab came back positive for 6-mam (heroin). I almost fell off the table as I have never used heroin in my life. I wouldn't even know what it looks like! Told the doctor something is not right here and they had to have mixed my test with someone elses. He said he didn't know since he was not the one who handled it. In total disbelief and insulted to say the least, the only thing I could think of was I was eating lemon poppyseed muffins all week and one on the way to appointment with coffee. The day they tested me, I was also scolded for not having "enough" morhpine in my system and if it continued they would deny me of it. I told him I take when in a bad fibro flare and hate taking it regularly because it upsets my stomach. You can't just call and ask for any amount at any given time when you're in intolerable agony! While waiting for the swab and a bottle of water from the girl who took my vitals, I decided to chew one. They swabbed me directly afterward. After I went in to hear this baffling news I began to research false positives for heroin. My findings were that in high concentrations of morphine can cause this and also poppyseed on the muffins! I am now waiting to have a hair sample and or blood test done so I can continue with pm wo being labeled as a heroin attack. Everyone who knows me has said the same thing. I am the last person who would use that garbage. I run a business, pay my own bills, and raise a kid on my own with PAIN! I am anxious to prove the test to be false. How is this possible other than what I have researched unless they mixed mine with another user? Totally distraught, disgusted, and embarassed to think people think I would actually use that on top of everything else I take! I would be dead if that were the case. Once I get this resolved, I will be seeking another avenue and facility. This needs to be rectified and off the paperwork immediately. I feel for the peoples lives being ruined by these false positive tests as it is affecting me deeply. Total crock!

My husband was giving a mouth swab and his doctor said it came back positive for herion and he has never touched the stuff. He does take a over the counter sleeping medicine. I just want to know how this could happen? Also a couple of months ago my mouth swab came back positive for marijuana and i don't smoke cause i have breathing problems. I think this new mouth swab test is no good. It has to be a problem with this new test they are doing at the pain management doctors office. Does anyone know if maybe a over the counter sleeping med could cause a positive finding?

I to have had two falsed positives for heroin in the past 2 months and it is crap cuz I was a phase 4 on the methadone clinic and I got 4 take homes which they just got taken from me. SAI pays for my methadone so whenever you have a positive they call dyfs on you. Well I'm happy they did cuz I went and took a hair follicle test and it came back negative and now they told me I failed again so this time I called dyfs myself and asked to be retested and she sent a referral over for me. I have not done anything at all for it to come up positive for heroin. I wouldn't be able to feel high anyway being on 160 mg of methadone even if I wanted to. I'm so upset about all of this. I never had dyfs in my life ever till they called on me for a false positive. I called the state and everything. Thing is it just happened to another girl last week and I heard from other people too. Supposedly the clinic is being investigated already but idk if that's true. I hope so, but I pray this all gets fixed and straightened out!!!

I came up positive for heroin & I have never taken it. I got thrown out of my pain Dr for it and I am devastated cause I have truly never had it in my life. What could have caused my test to come up positive? Please help. I confessed & my Dr doesn't believe me.

I took a otc sleep aid with active ingredient diphenhydramine. It caused false positive for 6mam. Methadone unconfirmed. I asked to resubmit it with knowing about the sleep aid. Came back neg for all opiates. Diphenhydramine is listed as a known antihistamine that causes false positives. Hope this helps.
