I just want to know that this drug is used for, this was prescribed to my father since he has cirosis of the liver.

Spironolactone is used to help treat high blood pressure, edema, or congestive heart failure by helping to remove excess fluid from the body. I have a bottle on hand, all the time, since I suffered congestive heart failure 7 years ago.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and dehydration.
