What Causes Gerd

Hi I have been suffering from anxiety attacks for the past year now my Dr gave me 0.50mg alzam which I took 1 at night to calm me as I get heart pulpitations esp at night when I have to go sleep. And when I run out I just go back to my Dr and he gives it to me freely without questions. Lately Im taking 0.25 at night and 0.25 when ever I feel anxious. I would like to stop but heard that you can suffer severe side effects when stopping cold turkey. I feel like I am more anxious now than I have been before taking the alzam and also I have developed either gerd or gastro because i have a constant tight feeling in my chest i feel nausea headaches and body aches and sometimes i just feel really ill and i also feel very tired and dont want to do anything but sleep.please tell me if this is from the alzam or what as i am getting very worried now coz i dont feel normal anymore im forever feeling sick. I have told my Dr to work out a tapering plan but he told me i must just reduce the dosage which is of no help. Please give me some advice.

It's hard to say, without a medical exam, whether your symptoms are GERD or if they are just due to your anxiety, since it can also cause such symptoms.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.

Have you tried any antacids to see if it alleviates the symptoms? Did you inform your doctor of what you're experiencing, so they could evaluate and give you a diagnosis?

Your doctor is right, a tapering plan is just gradually reducing the dosage, though you do have to be careful to go slowly, as suddenly stopping may create the risk of seizures.

I could not get my alzam so i've been off it for 4 days now, not feeling good and want to pass out. I have pressure in my neck and head and eyes, pain in my chest, my arms are numb and I have sharp shooting pains in my neck. I got my alzam just now. Can i take a half of my 0.5?

Hello, Fay, I have GERD which is also called acid reflux. I have been on Omeprazole for a few years or more (it is also called Prilosec). When my doctor found out about my stomach problem, he gave me an upper GI in order to check on my stomach. It was caused by my stomach producing too much acid. Since I have been on Prilosec, I have been doing very well. Please talk to your Doctor about all of your symptoms, and she/he will know what medicine will help your problem. Good luck.
