Wellbutrin Sr 150 Green Vs Purple Tablet

I was receiving from Walgreens Bupropion 150mg SR which were green tablets imprinted M U12. Best medication I have ever been prescribed because it also acted as a stimulant therefore I no longer needed to sleep during the day. But after receiving the latest refiill I noticed I was again exhausted each day and needed to sleep. Later realized Walgreens gave me different tablets...a purple tablet imprinted S on one side and 525 on the other side. Walgreens said the purple tablet was exactly the same as the green tablet and it was FDA approved. What does FDA really mean? That the ingredients, the amount of each ingredient, and the quality of each ingredient is EXACTLY the same from one manufacturer to the next? Walgreens wouldn't return my money. Said the difference in refills was marked on their sack. Who knew to check the sack after payment? I know there is a difference in the effects, but is it true that if FDA approved medications are exactly the same recipe from one manufacturer to the next?

No, they do not have to be exactly the same. Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, they are allowed to differ from the name brand by as much as plus or minus 20%, additionally, generics don't have to measure against each other. So, there can be fluctuations from one generic to another, thus one might be slightly higher or lower in the amount of the active ingredient. The active ingredient does not necessarily have to be exactly the same, either, it just needs to be bio equivalent and shown to work in the body the same was as the name brand active ingredient did.

Thus, not it is not just you. You are right, there can be differences. The FDA considers them to be acceptable therapeutic differences, but sometimes when someone is used to taking a certain brand for a long time, or is sensitive to medications, it can cause some problems.

I know this doesn't resolve your problem and I am sorry about that, but I felt I could explain the reason for it.
