Vistaril/Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that's used to treat allergic reactions and also for its sedative like effects, so yes it can be used to treat some types of stress.

It is even sometimes given before surgery due to its calming effects.

Its side effects generally relate to that and can include dizziness, drowsiness and somnolence.
