V Spacticity

Updated

are there any new findings on spacticity? I currently take baclofen orally. i know about medtronics system that requires surgery. i am watching closely to see if they have come up with a newer version, potentially with the unit feeding outside, indtead of internally.
i have tried a number of meds with no relief.

Hi richard,

I haven't found any information regarding new treatments for spasticity, I did however come across some information stating that acupuncture may be a successful form of treatment.

Are you currently working with a physical or occupational therapist? If you are, they may be able to provide some information about other available treatments.

How long have you been taking the Baclofen? Have you experienced any side effects, positive or negative?

hi jenna, thanks for your reply. this is my first experience with a forum. i am not currently getting any physical therapy. i find i come out very sore and worse than before from the exercises. i do however have stretch exercises about twice a week and some stationary bike riding.
my condition continues to get worse as do my limitations. it is now more than 2 years that i had my stroke. i have considered the medtronic pump, but will postpone that idea for now. oral baclofen does give me some relief. i no longer have any concerning side effects. i am about to get a second IV of botox in my arm. the first IV gave some relief that lasted about 3 months. i had an IV in my leg with no relief. the consensuses was the leg is too large an area.
my left hand is not cooperating, hence no caps. i look forward to hearing from you again.
