Urine Test Given By My Pain Doctor At Each Appt. Shows Negative, 2 Months Later, Md Says Positive For 5 Illegal Drugs

Updated

I do not use illegal drugs or any drugs not prescribed to me. The chemo and all the scripts are already a pill salad. My first pain doctor treated me for 9 years and I never had a positive for any illegal drugs. Course I never used any illegal drugs. He retired and it has not been easy finding an ethical pain MD. I have been going to a pain clinic for 7 months now and have seen a RN practitioner on every appt. but one. I had one incident where I drank a Synergy health drink before my appt. apparently these juice drinks have a trace amount of alcohol from the fermentation of the juice. Kids can buy these drinks and no id is required so trace amount is key. The Rn had a fit that the kobacha tea in the juice ferments. That was my big violation of pain contract and she let it go after a tongue lashing. 3 months passed and my regular RN went on vacation, the MD who owns 5 pain clinics was the person I saw for my appt. He was with me for 7 minutes. I timed him. He could not get the computer to update so he treated me for the illness and symptoms of 2006 ( this is 4/2013 and I now have cancer). He did extend my regular medication checks to every other month. I gave a cup of my urine and did nothing new that I have not done previously. 2 weeks later I received a $800 bill for 27 separate tests and a blood draw billed under the Rn's name who was out of state on vacation. My insurance wanted to know why I live in Seattle and went to San Diego Calif. to have all these phantom tests run. They also were not in my insurance network and did not make sense so insurance called to tell me I'm responsible for the $800. I was never in Calif. I had a routine med check and UA for monthly meds refill in SEATTLE. I NEVER had any of the tests or blood drawn, I told insurance this and the MD is now under investigation. The bill did not get paid and I do not have to pay it due to illegal billing. I wanted to leave this pain clinic due to unethical practices. I really liked the RN I had always seen up to this point. I had an appt. on 6/19/13 where I gave a UA and told her of the bills for tests not done and all the unethical things I was subjected to. She assured me all was good and told me the MD who used her name is no longer doing any kind of patient care and it would get straightened out. I had completed my UA in the first 5 mins. of arriving for my appt. and took a good 90 mins. going over the 26 questionable charges. I also saw the UA reading and it was neg. for everything except what was prescribed.

Yesterday was my first appt. since I turned over these erroneous charges for false tests and procedures not done. The RN, I always see, came flying in and no hello or any eye contact, announced I tested positive for cocaine and this is my final warning and she would now titrate my meds in half ( I have been on the same dose for 3 years now ) due to the fact my UA from 2 months back (dated 6/19/13 ) was positive for illegal drugs. She made me sign a contract stating if I have any further "dirty" urine I would be dropped immediately as a patient. Since I have not done any cocaine or illegal drugs I protested and asked to see the lab report and the name of the alleged lab that has now accused me of misconduct. She ignored my protests and said all UA from the lab are 100% accurate, it was my urine and it was impossible to have any mistakes, I was guilty of using cocaine in her eyes, she did not want to hear any questions or speculations about it because they are 100% correct. I was given the lab number and told to call them and if I could clear it up to have the lab call her but that was fruitless because I obviously was lying. She then had me sign a contract acknowledging I had a positive UA for cocaine, and I was denying it. I called the lab 2 times in front of the medical staff at the clinic and was told both times, they are a "3rd" party so I was not allowed any access or explanations about my UA by them or they would be breaking HIPPA. Yes, we are talking about only me, the patient and the fact that in medicine, nothing is ever 100% without ever having an error. The lab said they could only talk to the MD or my RN practitioner who is my primary. She refuses to call or talk to the lab, because they do no wrong and the paper said I was a dirty cocaine user. Now this catch 22 of not being able to face my accusers of a lab I can not even verify exists, and the fact that the Rn refuses to talk to the lab or even sign a waiver for me to get my results that she says is positive. She has cut my meds in half due to her saying my UA is dirty, and I'm due back in a month. I gave a urine sample yesterday and asked her what it reads, I saw it was negative on the dipstick for illegal drugs. She also said I only had my prescribed meds in my urine yesterday. Why do I feel like I can not win or prove the truth here? I'm not a betting person but I'm betting come my next appt. in 3 weeks, this negative UA suddenly goes positive like it did 2 months ago. I asked her why she let me sit and talk to her for 90 mins on 6/19 with the alleged dirty UA and she never said anything about it. I also was in about an allergic reaction 3 times in the past 2 months and no dirty UA was mentioned until yesterday. She refuses any explanation and has an entire personality change. She has basically said I will be let go next month for illegal drugs and she only believes a piece of paper from a lab I can not confirm. I have not had any trouble in all my time with the 2 pain clinics I have been a patient of. Does it seem weird that I suddenly am a back alley drug abuser 16 days after this clinic was flagged, fined and is now being investigated ongoing for illegal charges? Any ideas how to clear my name? I did not/ do not engage in illegal drug use. I was being honest by turning over the $800 of extortion charges this clinic is putting on it's patients. I do not wish to continue to be a patient at this clinic but am wondering how am I going to get a reputable clinic to take me as a patient with this lie about illegal drug use?

I had a similar incident happen to me at wrk.. I am a underground coal miner in western ky and I got covered up in a roof collapse and had to have my knees replaced.. Well I sat in the office during my shift in a wheel chair fr two months to cover them for not having an accident on mine property... I get I drug test and it shows up positive for hypermorphone and I didn't even know what that was...Of course I was on a lot of pain meds but not that.. Well I got fired and lost a $90,000 a year job being completely innocent and trying to help them by not reporting my accident... So I went to msha which is mine safety and health administration... They got my urine and re-tested it and it was negative for hypermorphone and anything else I wasn't prescribed... I got my job back and $150,000 settlement plus all medical paid for on my knees for life... The mines lied about my drug test bc they was afraid someone would find out about me In a wheel chair in the office and they had no accident report... I was just doing what they asked.. Well it back fired on them... So I would suggest going to someone that knows the laws on medical like a accident lawyer... I had too and it saved my life.. My home, my wife and my children are all glad bc we almost lost everything bc I should have done the right thing when I got hurt and filled out an accident report instead of trying to cover for the company that didn't care about me or my family obviously... Best of luck to you

That is Awesome! I am glad it all worked out for you. Those of us in legitimate pain trying only to find some relief so we can go on to live our lives, seem to always be looked at like we are less than human. Kudos to you for knowing how to go about working with the system to get such a positive end result. Sharing your story, if it only helps one person is such a miracle. Thanks, it is truly inspiring to know the system does work.

I say they r pissed because u blew the whistle on them. They as a payback are probably sending ins/medicare bills for phony tests etc and you cost them their golden egg. What happened to you was a payback. I'd call the Attorney General of your state, The Governor of ur state, and I would call the ACLU n call in a written report with the better business bureau. I would also tell my story, names, clinic, everything n have it put in the local paper. Also take someone with you to all appointments no matter where as witness. Also I wud switch drugstores on first mistake filling a prescription. I have taken my meds to a pharmacy not local n hand them a pill from each bottle for them to identify. Sue that clinic doc, nurse for using their position n authority to abuse the system, giving you negligent n degrading care and inflaming n slandering your name n reputation. For starters. You have suffered one of the worst injustices: someone slandering your name n reputation. Also go to the prosecuting attorney of county this happened in. Medicare will send you copy of the bills if you no longer have yours. Get a copy of your ENTIRE chart. Check it for other lies etc. God bless you. Dont give up. Dont be afraid to let them know they have picked on wrong person.

This is one pathetic example of folks doing a lot of cheating and no folks trying to get better. Not a good place if you a really trying.

Okay so my story is pretty bad as well I am currently going through cancer for the second time I have degenerative back disorder a bulging disc and a pinched nerve I was referred by the top neurologists in my city in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Was being seen at the pain clinic had no issues whatsoever they were giving my epidural shots and my Percocet 10 I was in the middle of reconstructive surgery. MRSA and was being treated by a plastic surgeon with antibiotics along with whatever numbing medicine they give you to stitch up your open MRSA and cut it back open several times. It was time for my pain medicine refill I called to schedule the appointment and after Lodi Diner around they said they could schedule the epidural but there would be no more pain management medicine because I had a failed drug screen for cocaine. I do not do street drugs I asked them if it could possibly be from the numbing medicine the plastic surgeon had given me they said if I could get a letter from him stating that that could possibly be the case that they would possibly take you know the charge back I never initialed the bottle after I peed I never saw what happened to it after I handed it to the nurse it was carried off in a cooler taken downstairs to a lab tested and I was told they do not make mistakes at 100% was mine and best of luck to me. As I find out that my cancer has come back mine collagist immediately steps in to take over the pain medication that I have been on from the plastic surgeon whose care I had been under which are 15mg Oxycodone, never in my time of doing chemo and other time spent there before this time did I test negative for or positive for any controlled substance whatsoever. The hospital I'm at is under a huge microscope right now with Medicaid for a pathologist given out fake diagnosis of cancer to people that did not have it.

All of a sudden at one of my appointments after having surgery on May 7th to get my pain meds refilled I was told that she would no longer be giving me my pain medicine and was requested to do a drug screen this drug screen came back negative for opiates. Really you can't make this up so I demanded a second test of course that test was not done in the hospital it was sent off in the mail no one will talk to me no one will answer my questions I was sent to a pain clinic that they chose which happens to be the same pain clinic that my urine came back dirty for so now not only do I have a cocaine positive test but I have a false test for opiates as well which give me a lie detector test neither or accurate. My current position assistant who I have seen for almost 10 years was about to step in and give me my pain meds until I could see a new pain clinic that I don't know if they'll be able to see the old pain clinics records that is 2 months away however she read over my oncologist notes and quickly decided that she would not be helping me I needed to go forward with trying to get in a pain clinic one of which she made the referral to so are these results viewable to every pain clinic do I have a chance at my blood that was taken being tested and why wasn't that done versus urine as well as it sounds like I need an attorney because this is a whole bunch of mess that is really strange. I've been on pain medication for nine years, never had a problem, never had a bad drug test, never had stolen or lost anything until this fiasco. All that happened with a cancer returning and a hospital under scrutiny, a pain clinic that does no wrong, what can I do? Nobody will help me, talk to me or explain any options. Please someone help.
