Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 8)

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?
I wouldn't chance it . Everybody is different. Suggests 48-72 hours. nobody can tell you what's going to happen with you when you take a bupe based drug shortly after an opiate .it's just plain and simply not recommended . Kkh gives very up to date and accurate information as I've seen so far. I'm on suboxone it blocks per the naloxone in it the bupe is what gives you the precipitated withdraws so subutex can do this also . My opinion is that I would go to the actual site suboxone/subutex and go to bottom of page they have a faq section and a toll free number ask the professionals or ask your prescribing dr. Withdrawl is a very horrible thing I would not chance anything on it . I hope I've given you pertinent information that will help you make an informed decision.
So you for sure took subutex very soon after h and nothing happened? That really worries me I took a norco 5 hours ago and I really want to be back on my subutex. I know suboxone got me super sick doing that a year ago. It sucked. You can vouche for it though? Subutex?
PHARMACIST: You are just plain WRONG. Absolutely, 100% wrong. The Naloxone in Suboxone is only in there to keep people from injecting the Bupe. Naloxone is less than 10% bioavailable when done sublingually. IT IS THE BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF that puts you in withdrawal, because it is a partial opioid antagonist. You are dispensing incorrect information. I PERSONALLY went through Precipitated Withdrawals from SUBUTEX, not SUBOXONE. (I am allergic to Naloxone, and was on Subutex for years) And I just helped someone else get through precips from Subutex as well. You are wrong, plain and simple, and if you are REALLY a pharmacist, you should friggin KNOW BETTER.
You do not go into withdrawals on subutex when you take other opiates. Now taking suboxone when you're on opiates is a different story. Withdrawals like a mf. Take opiates while on suboxone first and you won't feel them much but still no withdrawals. It sounds crazy but no matter what way you take them, the only way i have went into withdrawals was taking suboxone wich has naloxone unlike subutex, while I was on oxys, not vice versa. Sounds crazy but true. I don't do drugs anymore but always got jammed mixing subutex with opiates. Never did I go into withdrawals. Hope no one is trying to abuse these drugs but just telling the truth through experience, not what I read or think I know. Have a good life and stay away from these drugs unless needed for pain. Medical marijuana has helped me more than any pain med. I urge anyone in pain to try it before you get addicted to the pain meds that they give, they ruin you and do not get rid of pain. You may get a little relief while your health deteriorates slowly but surely. Medicinal Marijuana is the way to go. Hammer Head is a great strain.
I say bs. Withdrawals? I take subutex, oxycontin, oxycodone and whatever else and never have I experienced withdrawals...ever. y'all are way off. Maybe you won't feel the full effects of the oxys but withdrawals? Nah! Good luck though.
Everyone who is mentioning Narcan, Suboxone actually contains Naloxone... NOT Narcan... Educate yourself before you kill someone!
AHU: Subutex and Suboxone are no different in how they affect or interact with full-agonist opioids. They can BOTH cause withdrawals when taken too soon after the opioids because it is the BUPE ITSELF that causes this. not the Naloxone. The Naloxone is only in Suboxone to keep people from taking Bupe intravenously; it's bioavailability is less than 5% when taken sublingually.
Subutex contains no naloxone. Suboxone on the other hand it will cause you to be sick. With subutex you should be fine. I've done it plenty.
Thank you!! So irritating to read all that mess haha.
I find it very hard to believe a doctors put you on both of those ? What would be the reason for subutex ? I would think if they thought pain meds would help your situation they would just give you those.
LAGUNAMAMA: I would wait at least 24 hours. 24 to 36 hours to be safe. Then I would start with a small amount of the Bupe, wait about 30 min., see how you feel...then take a little more. I don't know how much you are planning to take, but I wouldn't do more than one or two milligrams at a time until you see how you adjust. Good luck!
I am so sorry to bother you , I was just reading some of the posts on here because I just had a c section 2 days ago and I've been off Subutex for 3 days. The nurses have decreased my pain management to 1 - 5mg percoset every 4 hours which isn't helping me at all! I would rather go back in my subutex because at least I'll feel somewhat normal. I was really wondering how soon after the last 5 mg percoset do I have to wait to take the subs? I couldn't stand to go into precipitated withdrawal in the condition I am in , but on such low doses of the percoset I don't want to have to wait in misery too long either. Thank you for your help.
JEREMIAH: There is no "wrong kind of Subutex"...there is SUBUTEX, and there is SUBOXONE. They are BOTH, as you put it, "blockers". Taking full agonist opioids with EITHER ONE is a bad idea. Ugh, more mis-information? We don't need!!!
I think the pharmacy gave you the wrong type of subutext, one has a blocker in it and the other doesn't.
I hope you found relief somewhere or somehow, if not I may now how you can find help
Wb1: No, you can NOT take buprenorphine with "other narcotics". You are dispensing bad advice and mis-information. And no, taking naloxone orally will not relieve constipation (unless you are talking about the diarrhea that accompanies withdrawal), but taking methylnaloxone will relieve constipation without withdrawal symptoms, because it can not cross the blood-brain barrier the way naloxone can, and only works on the opioid receptors in the gut. AND NO, you are not getting "withdrawal from the naloxone" in Suboxone. It is ONLY in there to keep people from taking it intravenously. The bioavailability of naloxone when taken under the tongue is less than 10%, but is 100% bioavailable when inj. IT IS THE BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF THAT CAUSES WITHDRAWAL.
It's amazing how much bad information you were able to cram into that short comment. May I suggest that it is YOU who could use more "education".
You are still not totally educated! The ingredient in subutex is only buprenorphine. Which is a pain med, however, it is only a partial, that is why, yes you can take other narcotics. Because buprenorphine alone is a partial one and won't get the full "euphoria". Which is good for pain patients, as they are not so focused on the "euphoric effects" it's just the relief from the pain. Suboxone is buprenorphine plus naloxone (or narcan, same thing) you will get withdrawals from the naloxone. More severe if it is inj. That is why they are now coming out with new drugs that contain naloxone for severe constipation. Because taking naloxone orally with help relieve constipation... Why. Because it puts a person in a low withdrawal. That is why they warn you about the other side effects. Also known as other withdrawal symptoms.
Thank you for clarifying that. Something else that gets mixed up alot is that subutex and suboxone are different. The only difference is that suboxone contains naloxone. But medications are buprenorphine.
DANI: I just sent you a big ol post, answering the questions you asked me. Hope you see it. Love your answer here though. It is amazing how many people are putting substances into their bodies, and they have NO CLUE how these substances work.
INTHENAMEOFMEDICINE: Thank you. Not only is this "Kim" person completely wrong, apparently she had to get REALLY nasty about it. Nothing like having someone tell you "what's up" in no uncertain terms, and be just completely misinformed about the whole thing. I will assume she took her Subutex in the a.m., and then took the full agonist opioids later, which would NOT bring on precipitated withdrawals. So she's getting completely worked up over something that wasn't even the issue! Hilarious. But if I had a nickel for everyone who thought the problem was the Naloxone rather than the Bupe itself, I could have retired long ago.
Once more people; it is the BUPRENORPHINE ITESELF that is the "blocker" which will bring on precipitated withdrawals, whether there is Naloxone in it or not. Naloxone, when taken sublingually has less than 10% bioavailability (something like 5 or 6%) and is ONLY in Suboxone to keep people from taking it intravenously. Taking full agonist opioids soon AFTER taking Bupe will not cause precipitated withdrawals. Taking the BUPE too soon AFTER taking the opioids WILL.
Everyone clear? Thanks :)
Dani,
Lmfao now that was a post to remember ;) Eliquent,Fact based and
Hilarious. It doesn't get much better then that.I only wish I was graced with style and articulation,But I digress.
Many thanks for the 411.....,
Regards,
Kenie.
