Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 7)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

STARplayer: Can you explain what "tec" is? If you are referring to Subutex, yes waiting a day to start your Subs after taking Percocet, you would be fine since Percocet is fairly short acting.

Hello all , hello kkh as I read posts on the sub thread I am baffled. All this I take my Roxy's or perc's or what ever before and after and even insanely during taking my Suboxone, Subutex, buvinail, or zubsolv , I am just baffled at this it's like taking an amphetamine for weight loss and then going to gnc and getting some pro weight gainer 5000 . Point is it's counter productive, yes, different people get small differences in side effects, but; it's a plain simple fact naloxone blocks , it's to deter intravenous abuse, the bupe is what lays the precipitated withdraw on ya , by no means should you take any recovery information from an individual who combines full and partial agonist and antagonist opioids , mat medications are plain and simply not engineered to be taken with other opiates, hence the opiate replacement therapy duh. I've made this mistake , I paid dearly. My OPINION is if an individual has done this and not experienced precipitated withdraw ...You dodged the bullet, thankfully. I'm not a Dr , not a pharmacist, don't have a PhD in anything. But I am experienced in addiction and recovery per my life . Kkh is correct as are several others I would advise that their information be listened to , or one day when you roll the dice ,per say, with combining a bupe based drug with an opiate you just might find out the hard way. Luv you all good luck to everyone and just a reminder please if ya don't believe me kkh, or the others simply look up Suboxone, Subutex buvinail or zubsolv and call the facts hotline and just ask

KATIE: WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

Please refrain from posting information when you actually have no idea how a drug works. If someone actually takes your bad advice, they can end up in a really bad way.

KATIE: Here we go again. No, you are WRONG. It isn't the Naloxone that causes precipitated withdrawals, it is the BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF. Whether or not there is Naloxone in there does not matter. Please do more research before posting information than can be dangerous to someone. You clearly don't understand how this drug works.

ONE MORE TIME, PEOPLE: It is the BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF that can and will cause precipitated withdrawals when used too soon after full-agonist opioids. Naloxone is less than 10 percent (possibly even less than 5 percent) bioavailable when taken sublingually.

Naloxone is ONLY in Subuxone to keep people from taking it intravenously, where it is of course 100% bioavailable. Subutex AND Suboxone can and will cause precipitated withdrawals, as it is the BUPE ITSELF that causes the problems.

Subutex doesn't have the naloxone which the blocker of opioids like suboxone so there's no way to get sick off subutex and percocet

AARON: You will most likely feel them if it has been that long. Just remember not to start up the Subs too soon AFTER the opioids. When I was still "cheating", I would feel the opioids after about 24 to 28 hours of being off the Bupe.

Finally a good response man do u think i will feel opiates after 32 hrs off subutex at 8mg day for couple weeks?

ROLLTIDE68: Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. It doesn't "depend on your system", this is basic chemistry, and this is how the drug is SUPPOSED to work. I'm calling BS on your comment. You are either taking VERY LOW DOSES of both the opioids and the Suboxone, you are waiting longer than you THINK you are, you are taking the opioids AFTER the Suboxone, which would not throw you into withdrawals, or you are just lying. Because taking Suboxone too soon AFTER full agonist opioids can and will make you experience Precipitated Withdrawals. Those are just plain FACTS. A person's "system" isn't going to change that.

I take them together as well and don't get sick. I guess it depends on your system

NIKKIR: You need to be in active withdrawal before taking the Suboxone or you risk going into Precipitated Withdrawals.

Here is the COWS Scale. It is suggested you have a total of 10 or more on the Scale before starting up the Subs again.

But how long after you've taken that small 10mg of percocet can you take the suboxone again? I took 16 mg of suboxone bc it wasn't working, I might have taken it to soon to start. After reading some things I decided to take the last 15mg of percocet I had left. I feel alot better now. I have a small child at home, can't go thru withdrawals again like after taking the suboxone. When can I take the suboxone again?

I'm amazed at how many people talk but are actually unaware of what's going to happen, I saw two people that actually knew...Suboxone and opiates don't mix well. It's a process to switch but SUBUTEX and opiates will NEVER PUT U IN WITHDRAWALS. I've literally mixed the two up not just once either. I did it for months. I do realize that I might have not gotten the FULL effect of other drug... I've been on Suboxone now 5 years and 1 year on Subutex. I even taken bunavel which sticks to your cheek and is above all the rest so far, less taste fast dissolve and half the blocker. The half life is a little shorter but you're taking half the dose of Subutex and Suboxone and getting a lot more effect. The kid that talked about Narcan and you wouldn't get sick listen to him, he's smart. These other posts are crazy. Honestly, everyone is different but the best way to find out is to pick up phone, call a hospital and ask them sometime, anonymous though.

DROPIATE: Precipitated w/ds only happen if you take Subutex/Suboxone/Zubsolv too soon AFTER narcotics. If you try taking narcotics AFTER the Bupe, this won't happen, you just won't feel them.

But you are wrong about Naloxone. It is ONLY in Suboxone to keep patients from injecting it. It is the BUPE ITSELF that causes the w/ds, not the Naloxone, since the opioid antagonist Naloxone is less than 10 % bioavailable when taken sublingually. (of course Naloxone is 100% bioavailable when injected) Buprenorphine itself is a partial antagonist as well, and is actually QUITE bioavailable when taken sublingually, and can and will, WITHOUT A DOUBT cause precipitated withdrawals. I have been through them PERSONALLY. You are dispensing seriously BAD information, and I sincerely hope no one takes your advice and ends up in a really bad rattle. Precips are no joke.

If you take Subox and try taking any other opiate(agonist: ie, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydrocodone, morphine, hydromorphone(Dilaudid) you will go into withdrawal from the naloxone that is in it. Subutex has just buprenorphine AND NO naloxone. The ONLY opioid that naloxone has trouble blocking is Fentanyl!!!

Hi guys, I too am a pharmacist. Diagnosed with RA few years ago I found myself hooked on Fentanyl. Now, I'm self employed and have a business to run so I wanted to fix this asap without having to go into rehab and stuff, so I considered Subutex. Took it without waiting for withdrawals, HUGE mistake! Went into an insane withdrawal almost killed myself. In the middle of it I thought maybe I shouldn't have started this way, should have probably tried wearing myself off the stuff, but subutex was in my system...for the next 36+ hours, remember the amount in your systems halves every 36hrs, meaning if for eg you have 10mg in your system, 36hrs later it would be 5, and next 36hrs you'll have half of that(2.5), and then half of that(1.25) etc. In that time, no opiate is going to work, so with RA it was a nightmare, plus opiate withdrawals come with their own muscle and joint pains so I was a mess. I'm not playing scare tactics, but this is what I went through. I locked myself away from my kids and wife during withdrawals and decided, the business will be fine, i need to do this for myself and my kids. Plus I had already gone through hell, might as well complete the race. I'm still not 100%, still on subutex but back to opiates is not an option for me, NEVER!!! I figured I survived RA pains without opiates for over a week, so why not another week...and another week, and another etc! My back was hell bcos it's the one the most affected by RA but with time the pain subsided substantially! So in short, at all costs avoid starting too early on subutex, regardless of what the package insert says! You could go into withdrawals, I did....so why risk it? So I agree with KKh....avoid starting too soon! Withdrawals are no joke!

So I have been through a c-section while on subs; worst pain in the world. I was told if I stopped taking them my child could die. It was my first son and I was so upset when they told me this bc I did not want my child to be born with drugs in mine or his system. So I've done alot of praying and started cutting myself back myself to a very small dose, less then 2mg while preg. After the c-section the pain meds did not help but I didn't care bc I was just worried about my son but thank god he never showed signs of withdrawals. The doc. And nurses where so confused bc I was supposed to be taking three 8mg a day but when they gave them to me I disposed of them all except a little bit bc out of worry I could hurt my child if I completely stopped. But take it from me, if u plan on having any surgery or need any pain meds wing your self down very low until u can completely stop, go through a couple days of withdraws no matter how hard it is (unless ur preg) then start your pain meds otherwise the pain meds will not help you at all. I pretty much went through a c-section without any help from pain meds bc they gave me my subutex and pain meds and the two together is not a good combination bc it's like they cancel each other out. This is just my advice and in no way should u listen to me. Always talk to your doctor and let him tell u what is best for u in any case when it comes to your med and your pain. He knows what's best for u and what is safe for u. Best of luck and god bless. Also my best advice to anyone is get yourself clean with help from the subutex or suboxone and then wing ur self off that when ur comfortable so that u can control the urge to feel high, but stop them that way when something does happen and u need pain meds u will get help with the pain meds bc take it from me it's so hard when nothing helps the pain.. And in my opinion it takes a good 5 days to get the subutex out of ur system and even then it takes alot more pain meds then it would for a person who does not have a problem to get any kind of pain relief from the pain meds.. I have been clean from everything now going on three years thanks to the grace of god and the love I have for my children and I have never felt better. It was a long and hard journey but anyone can do it if they set their mind to it and work really hard at changing your life. Whether u are doing it for yourself or someone else u can do it, if you try really hard and work at it everyday. God bless and my prayers are with everyone on here. I know what it's like and how it feels as well as how hard this is!

JAMES: I would say 48-72 hours if we are talking Methadone, or if the person has been taking a LOT of H for a long period of time. It is fairly short-acting, so 24 hours is usually sufficient. But also, you have to go by how you feel. If you are feeling pretty crappy, in pretty sufficient w/ds, you are probably ok. I have had opiates that weren't that great, where I could take my subs in 10 hours. The time I went into Precips myself, it was REALLY good opiates, and it still happened after waiting almost 24 hours. Very rare to find opiates that "hold" you for more than 10-12 hours. So that was MEGA! I really do hope that guy waits as long as possible! Thanks for the shout-out btw; I really am on here to try to help people stay safe.

JOHNNYD: Unless you want to risk going thru one of the worst experiences of your life, I would wait. A good rule of thumb is 24 hours when talking about Subutex and H (which is what I have the most PERSONAL experience with) If you absolutely can not wait that long, what you at least need to do is wait until you are in LEGIT WITHDRAWAL. It depends on how long it takes for that H to get out of you, and THAT depends on how much you did, and the quality of it. You are obviously going to do what you want, but I do know what I am talking about here. People mistakenly think that it is the Naloxone that causes withdrawal, but 90% of it is the BUPE ITSELF. I would hate to see some go thru that horrible experience because they didn't wait long enough.

I used to do the "back and forth" with H and Subs, and it finally just got too ridiculous. Waiting until I was "sick enough" to start my Subs again became a joke. See, this is what Bupe is DESIGNED to do. Subutex is for people who REALLY want to stop using. If you want a break from the chaos, but you still want to be able to use H once in a while? You are better off on Methadone. No judgment whatsoever, I am of course also an addict. But these are the facts.
