Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 5)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

Just my own experience but before I got on an actual Suboxone program I was taking every pain killer I could find. Sometimes 15 perks and a couple methadone or oxys a day. When I took a Suboxone with them I literally stayed "high" for two straight days with no sign of withdrawal. Once I actually entered the program and was required to be off ALL the opiates for 48hrs the Suboxone took away all the withdrawal and has been my lifeline for the past 4yrs. I did try one time early on to take 6 perks just to see if my Dr was truthful when he said they would have little to no effect while talking the Suboxone daily. Sure enough, nothing, and that was my last painkiller. The Suboxone has cut my migraines by about 80%. THAT I can live with. Definitely a miracle for someone who suffered from headaches daily for 16yrs.

Alright, I'm clearing this up right now! How can Bupe (subutex) knock off previous short acting opiates from your receptors when Bupe has been used for a long time in other countries for severe pain? just like every other opiate? Bupe has been around for years, LONG before it was approved by the FDA to combat opioid addiction. Only difference between Buperenorphine and most other opiates is it's life. Naloxone or the brand name Narcan is what knocks other opiates from your receptors. Suboxone is Bupe AND Naloxone. Naloxone ALONE is used for opiate overdose, they use this drug a lot for H addicts. It automatically counteracts the effects of opiates to bring the person out of an overdose. When Suboxone is used daily, the Naloxone coats the receptors preventing other opiates from getting in, rendering its effects in the brain. You really can only get so high from the Bupe in Suboxone before you reach what many reffer to as the 'ceiling effect'. SUBUTEX does not contain Naloxone, therefore you should be fine. Subutex is also prescribed to pregnant women so when they do go into labor, if needed, can take doctor ordered pain meds. When in outpatient therapy, a man in my group had to be put in the hospital for surgery on his knee. A week before his surgery, was switched from Suboxone to Subutex so he would be able to take pain meds and may also feel its effects. As of taking an opiate BEFORE taking Subutex, I have done this NUMEROUS times and nothing bad has ever happened to me, nor have I had any reason to believe this to be true. Take care!

No, genius, that is incorrect. I was on Subutex while I.was pregnant and the reason they switch you from Suboxone to Subutex is because they don't / knoe the effects of Naloxone on an unborn baby. You still get no pain meds because they don't WORK if you have Subutex AKA bupe on your receptors. It's a drug that was designed to bind much stronger to your receptors than full antagonist opiates. To be much longer lasting. The.Naloxone is rendered useless in Suboxone unless you try to melt it down first. If taken correctly and sublingually, the Naloxone is not absorbed and is burned away by your stomach acid. Please know what the hell you're talking about before you go blabbering nonsense like this to other people who actually need the advice!

I have been taking Percocet and clonzopam for years. I tried a suboxone to see how it would do for me. could one subuxone strip have resulted in a negative urine analysis with my pain management doctor which got me dismissed altogether

To my understanding, (as a 5yr Suboxone user) if you take your recommended dose every day of suboxone NO narcotic will have ANY effect on you. It takes minimally 3 days off them to feel the effect of a narcotic, and BELIEVE me when I started the program and asked my doc, "so what would happen if I took five perks or oxys while im on this suboxone?" His reply "it (the narcotics) will have little to no effect on you". So naturally I had to see for myself and took just that, 5 or 6 percs. And...... NOTHING, and I mean absolutely no buzz no nothing but a waste of a perfectly good would be high lol!! I have never heard of a Dr prescribing both to use together unless it was for some kind of "placebo" mind "thing" (in place of the four letter word I really wanted to use there lol)

Oxymorophne is exactly the same as percodan. As far as Subutex blocking all your receptors so you won't feel anything, is not true. It has a much higher Mu receptor...than any other opuiod/opiate, and a much lower endorphin...Therefore, it works well, in conjunction with a pain reliever, such as oxy's , dilaudid, morophine, codeine, and yes H. Only when it contains nalexone , as in subOXONE, does it cause precipitave withdrawl, if addicted to narcs. Or block the effect of opiates .I know from years of expierence.

I have the same fear. What if I had some kind of an accident where I needed pain relief? Three days is a really long time to wait for a painkiller to work. My Dr. let me try the buprenorphine without the naloxone. I complained because it dissolves slower and tasted even worse than the suboxone but now if that what I am hearing is correct I think I had better revisit that idea. When I started the suboxone program I had to be off all narcotics for a min of 48hrs. I was in the clinic for hours as they monitored how I was feeling to figure what dosage was correct for me. I now take the suboxone for migraine pain. It has cut my chronic migraine down at least 75% so its very worth it for me. I recently searched the internet and found 2mg bupernorphine for $1 ea. ($30) for shipping and no Dr script involved. Best of luck to you.

So if ive been taking like 6 mgs of the orange strips for ive or take 6 days and its been 16 hrs since i last took sub i can take 2 perc 10's and not worry about going into that withdrawl ?

You will not go into withdrawal by taking perc 16 hours after sub. It's actually the other way around. U can possible go into withdrawal if u take sub to soon after other opiates. But since u were taking sub for 5-6 days already and your only taking a couple of perc. Prolly nothing at all will happen. U will prolly not feel much from the perc anyway, and when u get back on sub, u will not go into withdrawal from only one day of using 2 percs. Your really just wasting your percs. Wait another day or so , so u can actually feel something .

I'd would wait 24 hours, due to the blockade effect of the suboxone. I'm having surgery the 23rd, and I'm going to stop my Subutex 24 hours prior to surgery...Remember , these are long acting drugs, so You won't go into hardcore withdrawl. Good luck..!!

My mistake..I should have said Oxycodone. The chemical structure is closely related to oxymorophone . My Bad.
I would think if a MD. is prescribing either of the drugs, the risk of fatality is on the doctor, or the person taking it irresponsiblely
Peace.

You only go into withdrawal if you take SUBOXONE and still have opiates on board, meaning in your system. I have personally IV'ed a 15mg oxycodone because I was sick and couldn't wait for my Subutex. The 15mg didnt cut it so when I did get the Subutex, around 45 minutes later I booted a half of that (4mgs) No withdrawl whatsoever. Again, the only way it really causes withdrawal is if you take SUBOXONE to close after taking another opiate. While on either, SUBOXONE or Subutex you can take any Opiate you want and not worry about withdrawl. You just won't feel the effects of said Opiate because the Bup is whats taking up your receptors and won't be kicked off. So you would basically be just wasting whatever Opiate you tried using.

OK I just got the 54 411 subutex...my.last dose was about 9am this morning which was3 perc 30s....i just took a qtr of the subutex about an hour ago.
..no signs of withdrawal or pre/wd....also in my own personal experience I have taken subutex 8 hours after my last dose and never got pre/wd so I think it's safe to say the 54 411 subutex don't put you into pre wd if you take with opiates I just wouldn't take them so.close together...hope this little bit of info will.help someone out there

Couldn't agree more. Detoxed off many things in my, sadly, 10 years of pretty intense drug use. Detox of prescription oxycodone was by far the worst, even more so than H. Granted was up to around 800-1000mgs oral/nasal daily for months and months, but the withdrawal was UNFATHOMBLE. I was in the worst pain of my life it was too much to take. Literally didn't think i'd make it, but I did, and now here to pass on my story and say be very very careful with the oxys or H, because even tho the oxy withdrawal is worse, they both take over your life without knowing what has happened. DON'T DO IT!!!!!
