I have an infected large bump on my calf. What is the extensive list of side effects for this medication?

This medicine stinks! I want to know what pharmaceutical company push's doctors to prescribe this one. Severe Headach all night, chills, extremely hot and sweating, weak and lightheaded, muscle ache and soreness. Lack of sleep. I have had all of these symptoms with no explanation. Just taking it for a sinus infection.

Oh my gosh! So happy to know that I was no the only one suffering from such intense side effects! I was on Sulfameth/Trimethoprim for a UTI after Ciproflaxocin failed to clear it up. I have experienced constant dull headaches for 4 days, nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, getting very hot then extremely cold, pain during urination, lack of sleep, and even some emotional side effects ie. depression. I'm definitely going to refrain from taking this drug in the future.

As I understand it, ANY antibiotic will make birth control pills ineffective

I've been on it for almost 3 days. I've vomited 4 times since, nausea from the time I wake up until I go to bed. I've been very weak / loss of energy, I can't seem to hold anything down, every smell makes me sick. Any home methods I should try? I can't take this anymore.

Try ginger root capsules take two 550 Mg capsules as needed it will stop the vomiting, but call your Doctor and have him change your antibiotic.

My 16 yr old daughter was prescribed this medicine for folliculitis and approx 20 min. after taking sulfameth her eyes became blood shot red, her forehead was swollen, and a slight headache. I called the local pharmacy and they urged me to stop giving her the med and to never give it to her again. This is ridiculous that the pharmaceutical industry is making money off of medicine they know is harmful even life threatening. I wonder how much info do doctors have on this med... If they even care.

That was a bad allergic reaction to the med. Make sure you tell all doctors that she is allergic to it.But we need to get this stuff off the market or at lest not prescribed routinely

I was a perfectly healthy active 43 year old three weeks ago until i was prescribed trimethoprim for a UTI after taking one before bed i woke in the morning with a numb knee, by the 3rd day i was admitted to hospital for 5 days with severe swelling on the left knee and pain. 3 weeks later i still cannot walk and my right hand also swollen and painful. I'm being refered to a rheumatologist but i highly suspect my side afftects are due to the antibiotic. i've read other similar cases. I'm so worried because my symptoms haven't eased, i'm on painkillers to keep the pain at bay but i cannot walk. the day before i took Trimethoprim i was running and cycling.

This med really did me in, too. Was rx'd 10 days, 2xday for staph. Was breastfeeding a baby and doc said it was safe. Baby got diarrhea, probiotics haven't helped. I'm also on probiotics, but still had stomach issues, yeast infection, head ache, tender, itchy gums, swollen lips, always hot, can't sleep, so sens to sunlight a 10 min drive caused my chest to break out in a rash. Following that, my whole body began swelling and now I itch everywhere. I stopped taking it a day early. I will never allow a doc to give me this med again. I'm on day 2 after the med. Benadryl and cortisone have not helped the itch. Pharmacist said will feel better 2-3 days after done with med. I hope so. Ugh

I've been taking it for over 6 days now and I've been miserable I thought a lot of the abdominal pain was from my period but it stopped and the pain is still there I feel like I have to catch my breath constantly I couldn't sleep but maybe two hours a night I've been puking and every inch of me hurts.. I know your thinking why did you put up with that for so long ... Well my periods have always sucked and most of those symptoms I sometimes can have during a normal cycle .. but 3 days after its the meds ...

Terrible medicine!! I was prescribed this antibiotic for a bug bite on my back that became infected. I took it twice a day for 5 days when things went downhill fast. Started with chills and sweats at work, as well as neck and lower back muscle aches. By the end of the 5th day, I was so utterly exhausted I couldn't think straight. 6th day was much the same. Called the doctor and we decided to stop taking the medicine. However, it was too late. On the 7th night, I fainted when getting up to get water. Then fell. Then fainted again, all within 6 hours. Woke up with total body rash. Ended up in urgent care. I will never take this again, nor will any of my family. After getting a benedryl and steroid shot, which helped tremendously, and 4 new prescriptions, including an epi pen, I was sent home. The following day, however, the rash started itching like there was no tomorrow. Such torture. My skin is so discolored, it's scary and looks like it will never go back to normal. I've soaked in oatmeal baths to calm the skin down. This is soooo upsetting, I've missed 2 days of work, no sleep, total misery. It's like I'm an addict and my crack is scratching. I've never been so miserable in my life and it's taking so long to get out of my system, it's been over a week now. Prayers for me please, I appreciate it. Mimi :-)

had. a severe reaction to ibuprofen fell fromladder hurt ribs and arm,emergency Dr prescribed. ibuprophen800, Disaster! face distorted. lymph gland blown out and facial boil ozzing yellow pus! gross, BA ck to urgent care,same dumd doc says ihave an infection not. allergic reaction. prescribed huge 800dosage. of sulfameth/trimethoprim
hours. later after vomiting home alone and Googling. i buprophen reactipn i realized that i could die. went to another hospital emergency after being iv'd with benadryl and some other toxin. the er doc after being told that I'd been prescribed bactrin/sulfamethtrimethoprim/he prescribed clinamycin300mg----said to take BOTH. until finished -10days! face has almost returned to normal may have some scarring, but. now I'm afraid of other side effects. still have 24 more clindamycin to go
all of these meds from a slip and fall! will. my general health be effected? do i have to take the rest. of the prescriptions? the clindamycin300 is huge and hard to swallow, but since i still have a big lump on my chin, and am dibilatated and depressed will this ordeal. leave me further impaired? i was healthy when. i fell
now i'm not so sure.
at sixty something i don't want to destroy a lifetime of caution. no one should take Ibuprofen Ever !

Did it take care of the staph? I am taking it for the same reason but so little out there will kill staph.

The medication might be to strong for your system..ask your doctor to lower the strength for you. wish you luck!

Wow, and I thought it was just the infection...I have the WORST headache that I've ever had. It is pulsating right behind my left eye (which is the side that has this deadly infection),. Didn't hurt B4 I took, but am seriously dying now...OWIE!!

My daughter has been on this medication for 3 weeks now for severe acne. Have had no problems whatsoever. Couple of days ago, she developed a swollen gland in her neck, very painful to the touch.
We are off to see the doctor now.

I took these pills twice a day for 8 days and quit I was perscribed 14 days. Could not sleep, felt like I had the flu and headakes. After 5 days I got a red rash all over.I called my DR and he said to take benadral for the rash ( I was working in the sun for two days before the rash started) the bottle said to avoid sunlight in small print ( why not an orange sticker with big print)
I have never had a problem a drug till this one.
No more sulfarmeth for me ever again - Some Bad Suff

I would never take this drug again. I only took two doses . I started getting extreme dizziness and then the panic attacks kicked in. I also found every time I walked , my knees felt as if they were going to give way from underneath me. Once my skin started burning I thought enough was enough and threw the rest of the tablets in the bin. I was prescribed these for a UTI.

I have been on this medication and have vomited evening and morning. The muscles in both legs are hurting like leg cramps and they only get better when I am off of them and sitting. I was prescribed this for a bad sinus infection after taking two other antibiotics.

went on this stuff for bad sinus infection. I got worse started passing out, couldn't sleep, dizzy, couldn't eat, panic attacks, swelled head, eyes hurt, bad cramps, leg pain. And after that it never done anything to get rid of the infection. had to use chiften to get rid of it. So this stuff is not as strong as they would lead us to believe.
