Subutex And Suboxone

Updated

Why do people stay on suboxone for long periods of time? I was on 8 , 10/325s a day for 6months, and I was able to get off opiates with 2, 8 mg pills of suboxone. I took a whole pill (8mg) the first day, 1/2 (4mg) the next day, 1/4 (2mg) the 3rd day, and I stopped taking it. I saved 2mg just in case I withdrew. But I had little to no wd's. I would relapse a few months later for about two weeks. And was able to get off the opiate with just one 8mg sub. By taking a 1/2, a 1/4, an 1/8, and an 1/8 the 4th day. No wds. Knowing I had access to the subs gave me a way to use the opiates recreationally cuz it felt good. Kinda wish it wasn't available. But if it wasn't, I'd be stuck on the opiate. Thankfully I haven't used in 16 months cuz it can get expensive. :-\

well I am going to give you a word of advice about your experience I would honestly accept the fact that u were able to detox in such a easy way and at the same time didn't have to stop one substance for another and be super great full. Unfortunately many people are not the same way although I can relate to your situation in the past I was hooked to oxy 30 mg I am sure you know what I am talking about the small blue one anyway I was taking maybe 1-2 a day and I was unable to keep up with the expense of the pills so decided to quick and I actually was able to do it with 1 8mg strip I broke it up into six and figured I take 1/6 daily unfortunately the first two days I took 2mg a day but was able to make the last 4 mg last for 3 days and was able to get off with no withdraws and or cravings. Any way long story short that made it seem like I could be high off pills and just detox in a simple way but what happened was after it came time to detox the second or third time I was unable to take less than 4 mg s day and before I know it when I tried coming off the suboxone I was unable to with out feeling a mild withdrawal about as bad as using the pills maybe a little less intense and found my self looking for suboxone as if or just as hard as when I was trying to find my opiate fix so if u got off once I highly rec you do not go back or believe that its just ganna take 1 to 2 suboxone to detox of it clean that's how the whole cycle works next thing you know your sucked in and not to suboxone but to ur pills because you don't have a way to come off and that will accelerate very rapidly to different ways of getting high and hope this never happens to you I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy but happened to me get introduced to the devil him self H which stands for Hell on earth so sorry about long message but I will do what I have to not to see people go through what I had to I am currently on 4 mg of suboxone a day and should be coming off one mg every 2 months so wish me the best as well as our buddy here

Hello, Erik! How are you?

6 months of just 8 a day isn't really a hardcore addiction, which is what Subutex and Suboxone are intended to treat. They are meant to be used for extreme, long-term addictions, such as for someone that's used very high doses for years.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

That's why many people have to take them for long periods of time, they have very severe addictions.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

I recently switched from 30 mg oxycodone, 6 a day, and 2, 60 mg mscontin for 5 leg surgeries, same leg also...to 6 mg suboxone a day. Been 5 days and I am glad my doc told me to be honest with her because when I see her this coming Wednesday we will discuss raising my dose. I also.have degenerative disc desease and severe osteoarthritis in all joints. Suboxone works but you have to find correct dose for you. I know this dose will not work for me! Its crazy that when you try to.do the right thing, it seems like when I try to do things the right way, the more I suffer!

People stay on suboxone or subutex for long periods of time because not only does it help with withdrawal but it also helps your cravings; which it sounds like you were/are having. I know that I started taking suboxone when I wasn't having any sort of withdrawal because I had tapered down the opiates enough, my own self, to not go through the withdrawal; I know this because I had none. My cravings were VERY intense and I was depressed, although, on an antidepressant in the first place. The suboxone brought me back to my normal self almost IMMEDIATELY! I was no longer depressed, had energy that I hadn't had since I was a child, had not ONE single craving, as taking care of my health again and was "doing life" again. From personal experience, I've been on suboxone for about 2 and a half months and I call it my miracle drug; the reason I kept going back to using was the massive cravings for it from the depression I had. This is why I've stayed on it long. Don't think that suboxone or subutex is just something to take for a few days just to get you through withdrawal because it really is so much more than that! Hope this helps!
