Subutex Alternatives

Updated

I am looking for a way to cut my costs on the medication subutex. I was wondering if there is a generic for this medication. It is very expensive and although a better alternative to using opiates, it is killing my pocket book!

Yes, sorry, this is still too new to have a generic form available. Generally the first company approved by the FDA to market a certain drug has a proprietary patent for 5 years, there are other exceptions which can extend that time as well. So right now, this one is available in the name brand only.

As to the Ativan question, that is a Benzodiazepine, so there are many other options available you can try, they are all controlled substances though and available by prescription only, so you will have to discuss the options with your doctor.

I have been taking subutex for over a year now. I just got my generic script tw0 days ago and it SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been on subutex for over a year and am trying to get off of it. The generic subs are called buprenorphine and are only half as strong as the brand name subs. I was down to only 4mg a day but now I have to take an entire 8mg just to keep from grtting sick. Plus U have to chew them to get them to dissolve. I would not recomend the generics AT ALL. i am switching back to the brand name subs~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASAP

I as well have received generic buprenorphine, believe it or not through my mail-order prescription program from BCBS. That was sweet. Imagine paying only $10 for 3 months' worth of medication...wow. I had it good and never realized it.

It's a shame that (we) have to pay so much for medical attention and medications. I have insurance, but no one takes BC here...just cash. I am lucky in that BC will pick up a portion of my medication, but I have to come up with $300 cash to see the dr. Now, it's possible my insurance will cover that, but one never knows. So, I understand what you're saying about expenses.

There is a generic for subutex, however not suboxone. The generic for subutex averages about $4-$5.00 a pill

Have you tried the generic form called buprenorphine? That is what I take, but, it, too is very expensive. If you will look around there are several sites for coupons. I just found a couple that I am going to try. {medication coupons.com and simple savings card}..I hope they work for you. I am currently paying over $500 per month for 24 mg. per day. Had 3 failed back surgeries and had to get off percocet some way.

I think subutex is cheaper than suboxone, but only by a few dollars. I joined Sam's Club and paid the extra to be a platinum member ($100 total) because it saves 40% on prescriptions. So instead of $120, it's only $72 twice a month. That means you save almost $100 in the first month. Methadone is cheaper, but even harder to kick than heroin. I've heard people saying to get back on heroin til the methadone is out of your system and then get on suboxone.

Just got generic subutex...8mgs... don't like it bc they're the size of a percocet. Most of it ends up in my saliva, which I have to spit out or get sick - at $3.50 a pill, I guess I can deal w/larger size - just think I'm wasting more of it than I'm getting in my system. Is there a better way to take this larger generic size?

Alprazolam, aka Xanax, is the best for anxiety

The generic is actually the name of the ingredient in subutex.. Buprenorphine (check the spelling). It costs 3.50 a pill at most pharmacies

Go to different pharmacy. I got the same small pill at walgreens and felt like it didn't work as well. Cvs or medicine to go definitely have bigger better subs

Hi, I was so thankful to find this site. I've been on susuboxone for about 6 yrs but a few mths ago separated from husband and money has been tight but now have a better job and can afford to go to the doc. I am trying to find a doctor that writes the gummies (suboxone or subutex) because they are cheaper. Can anyone tell me of a doctor in my area that will write these? I'd be willing to drive a little ways..please let me know if anyone has information.

Kratom is a all natural herbal substance that works as a great alternative to subutex. I know because I've been taking then for years now, but I've used kratom as well

Yes there is a generic for subutex. It is called "Buprenorphine". In 2012 a doctor treated me with 8 mg in the morning and Half a tab "4mg" in the evening. And it went by the name "Buprenorphine" for Subutex. But he did not give it to me for opiate maintenance, he treated me for chronic pain which I dealt with at that time for 15 years. I was amazed that not only did it treat my chronic pain better than any of the other opiate medicine or phyc meds, but I slept better, my depression was lifted and my overall quality of life was better than it had been in all the 15 years. I had to get off of the subutex because of the different health insurance. And they put me on methadone for my chronic pain. It worked but I hated nodding. I have been fighting ever since. So there is your answer. Hope this helps you.
