Suboxone Don't Do It!!

Updated

I've been on suboxone for 2 years now. I was addicted to pain pills. I've had withdraws from the pills and withdrawals from the suboxone, and the suboxone is 10 times worse. I don't know who discovered this drug but they should be shot. If I would've known suboxone was this bad I would've tried to quit cold turkey. They even have me on a higher dose than i took with the pills. But now I'm stuck!!! At least my Dr that I have to pay every month is happy. My advise is whatever you do don't go with suboxone. There's bound to be something better out there.

Hello, Whisper! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you've had.

However, Suboxone does work well for many people, because though it takes awhile and must be very slowly tapered, it has enabled many people to become completely drug free.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

What dose are you currently taking?

I'm on the 8mg. Its not the highest one but its bad enough. Its just so frustrating because I'm ready to be done with it all but I can't yet. I'm so sick of taking anything just to function but I just can't quit taking it. The withdrawals are stopping me from just stopping all together. When you've been in the fetal position on the kitchen floor wishing just to die" they are so bad" it detures you from going cold turkey.

You are not stuck on Suboxone. You choose to avoid the discomfort of getting off of the drug. The longer you stay on it the worse is it going to be to get off. I am in my fifth month of withdrawals and it isn't fun. My story is just like yours. This is a fabulous site to find info on detoxing and going through Suboxone withdrawals. Even though I am going through a long withdrawal I would not turn back for any reason. Just the mental clarity and sensitivity make it worth it.

Toxicologists have very little experience with getting off Suboxone and simply break the receptor loose by giving the patient 5 days of Catapres. If you read the info on this site there are several post by people who have and are going through this with super ideas on relieving the withdrawals. Honestly the people who have gone cold turkey from opiates and Methadone tell me their experience with Suboxone was 20 times worse. Not necessarily in intensity but in duration. No vomiting, just ten rounds with Mike Tyson every other day for months. Many people work while they are withdrawing for the obvious financial reasons. I applaud each of them.

I am 69 years old and was on Oxycontin for 5 years then Subs for 5 years. I am making it and you will too.

Well if you have any ideas for me I would gladly listen. I've tried to just quit and I'm good for a week then my stomach starts cramping and I start sweating. Its horrible. I'm usually pretty good about anything that hurts. It has to be falling off before I go to a Dr., but this has me stumped. If I didn't have a family to take care of I could take it, but everyone depends on me and I can't be sick. How did you dose down and still function? I'm all ears.

I have a question for anyone out there that can help. My family isn't the richest ones out there. We just lost everything and had to start over. I'm going to the Dr for my suboxone for me and my significant other. We share a prescription. I have no ins. so I'm paying out of pocket for this meds. I think I would be off this or at least doing better than I am if the other half could do better. We get them split up since it cost so much and most of the time I half to share what I have left cause they have run out already. Sometimes its a whole strip I'm sharing. How can I do better when they don't? We start off with the same amount. I want to get off this but I seriously think they are holding me back. I can't just let them suffer either. Has anyone went through this or has any advise. Don't say make them go to the Dr for their own cause that's not going to happen. We can barely afford one.

Whisper: both you and your significant other can obtain prescriptions to help with the withdrawals. Five days of Catapres, 10 days of 10mg Valium three times a day and Neurotin 300 mg three times a day for two weeks. Klonopin and Valium act the same and stop RLS. Neurotin stops the skin burning or crawls. Start Catapres on day one and do not start the others until you really need them. Only take these drugs for the time frame I suggested. This amounts to about $100 worth of meds to get off a $400/month addiction. This is basically what my Board Certified Toxicologist prescribed for me. I am in my fifth month of no Suboxone or any other opiate. I still hurt bad. Biggest issue with me is stomach cramps.

I'm very interested in this program. Is this how you got off them and how long did it take you to do? Do I half to go to my family Dr. to ask for these? You know now days it's hard just to go ask for a prescription of anything. They look at you like your a drug dealer.
