Strongest Muscle Relaxer

Updated

I've been taking the muscle relaxers flexeril 10mg 2x a day and or methocarbamol 750mg 3-4x a day. Neither of them work. What is the strongest relaxer I can ask my dr for. I suffer from low back pain daily.

Yes Some, which contains the active ingredient Carisoprodol is really the strongest available, though even it doesn't work for everyone.

However, it's important to remember that it is not an analgesic and will not work like one.

It is just a muscle relaxant, so it is only effective at treating muscle pain caused by muscle spasms. Thus, if you suffer from pain due to nerve damage, injury, surgery or some type of degenerative condition, this will likely not treat all of your pain and you should speak to your doctor about your other options.

I'm on Zanaflex 4mg 3 times a day for Ulnar Nerve Pain, along with 160mg of Oxycontin and let me just say I personally believe tylonel is stronger than the Zanaflex. That stuff is good for NOTHING!!!!

Soma is rarely prescribed any more. Most pain specialists won't touch it as it is considered a barbiturate. I've had them all, and that unfortunately works the best. Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) seems to be the best of the ones left..

Hello, I'm afraid I can't help you regarding a better medication for muscle relaxants, as I find Flexeril best for me. But I do recommend, exercises by Miranda Esmonde-White. They are gentle, & stretch every muscle in your body. She also has a new book called Painless Forever. I saw her on PBS. I have her lower & upper back exercises for pain & they actually take it away!

Your body must have a huge tolerance. I take zanaflex and she wants me to take it 3x a day. I can't even take one without being near a bed. I feel like I have been drinking all night. Geeze

I have severe back pain and I think it's because my stomach is large due to great weight loss and it pulls against my back, I also have sciatica in both upper thighs since 1993 from my last pregnancy with my last child. I take soma that works with pain meds!

Re: Amy (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

I think it depends on the person. Zanaflex is a bit TOO effective on me, even after taking it for several years. At first, I hallucinated every time I took it. I rarely hallucute after 5-6 years of taking it now but still sometimes see patterns in the dark or vivid colors when my eyes are closed. It's extremely helpful for sleep as well and muscle strain but it was scary at first.
