I have PCOS and I am taking metformin for it but my physician gave me a prescription for Spironolactone for the facial hair. Will this eliminate the facial hair and should I be worried about losing my hair on my head? I am also worried about the side effects of diarrhea as the metformin already upsets my stomach.

Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic, and an aldosterone agonist, so it is used to help remove fluid from the body, to treat conditions such as congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, edema, and yes, it can also help with excess facial hair, or hirsutism.

No, it should not cause hair loss on your head.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and heartburn.

Is there anything I can help with?
