been prescribed these Elavil for migraines, I am on some powerful pain meds. for my messed up back. has anyone ever experienced a lot of itching with these? let me know.

I have been on them for just over a month, for pain relief. And have found I am tired all day, have blurred vision, nervousness and muscle stiffness. If I miss a dose the pain is as bad as the day of my accident and I am in tears. Having Hypothyroid already I don't need something that makes me more tired, just something to take the pain away.

I have been prescribed Amitriptyline 10mg as I have an O.A.B ,I see one of the side affect`s can be weight gain.I do not wish to gain weight so how many people have gained weight. Thankyou.

my son.just prescribed 10 mgs to help him sleep at night.
i dont get it my son has insomnia,and one of the side effects is insomnia
so will this drug do him more harm than good?

I am taking 50mg of amitripaline and I am getting really bad leg twitches at night up to the Point where I can't sleep, I am taking it for pain and depression. Is anyone else suffering from this.

I'm taking this for hot sweats, menopausal, at 10mgm.
Anyone else been prescribed for this and arthritis.

Going back to original question. Yes, this medication when I took it made me sleepy, so take it at before bedtime. Also, dry mouth every morning, maybe keep bottle of water next to bed. I was given this medication years ago by my neurologist after I started having bad headaches. He said this should help because I would sleep better and relax at night. Reduce my feeling of stress. I have to mention that I was in a car wreck and hit my head on the windshield in front of me. (before seat belt laws) This has caused life long headaches. I did not like the dry mouth part and have since stopped taking them, but you have to tapper off. Slowly over weeks take less and less. I suppose I ended up taking more and more after yrs went by, so I had a harder time getting off this. Almost could have used a rehab center, but not sure if they would even consider monitoring me for this medication. Usually more for stuff like Valium, Xanax, other more severe drugs. I tried a month of Xanax but that stuff scared me, after I read several forums with regular people trying to get off it. I do not want to be addicted or dependent to anything, because I will end up a mess and I have a family to care for.

I have been on name brand Elavil for 2 years for fibromyalgia pain and to help with sleep. I had no side effects on the name brand but, my last refill was a generic brand PMS Amitriptaline and I tell ya it is pure h*ll. This generic brand is garbage. It gives me headaches I never had before, sleepiness, stupor and feeling of going to faint. So, I will have to go back to my doc and get another rx for reills marked "no sub". That's what the pharmacist told me to get the doc to write on the rx.

Yes dr. prescribed it to me 3 days ago for RA pain and sleeping, 10mg tabs. Giving me a spaced out feeling but only been on it for 3 days. Ive had the arth for 45 years.

Hello everyone. I went to the doctor and got APO Amitriptyline. APO is the company name. I can't quite remember what the pharmacist told me but the original company that made name brand Elavil sold out to APO, which uses the same ingredients and this particular brand is working for me the same as the Elavil brand. Just wanted to let people know.

I also get frequent headaches and have been taking Amitriptyline (10mg) for about a month. I had the same pressure feeling after taking it for a week, but its only happened a couple times so far. I was wondering if you are still taking it and how it's going?

Ive been on these tablets for over two years now, i dont get a dry mouth but i do get tired, some times extremely tired, and my appetite is up, but i av to watch wat i eat.

I am pleased I found this forum. I was on lorzepan to help my migraines for almost ten years, if I don't sleep I get migraines. Now that Lorazepan is being phased out here in the UK I did evntually manage to come off them and for a few weeks was OK although sleep went to about 2-3 hours a night, that is when the migraines returned with a vengeance.
My GP has prescribed 1-2 Amitriptyline (10mg) a night, one does not have any real effect but two send me off to sleep about an hour after taking them and I sleep from about 11pm with maybe one interruption until about 6am, my problem is that after getting up and doing stuff around the house for about an hour I get the awful zombie feeling and need to rest again and often drop off to sleep again for an hour or more.
Once that spell is over I am OK until late evening. Does anyone have any suggestions as to get rid of the early morning need to get another 1-2 hours sleep after getting up?

I find it very hard to sleep at night and have been on 5mg Valium and 30mg dalaine. The doctor has mow prescribed 10mg amitriptyline at night, on its own. Will this help? I have had a lot of changes in my life recently and am about to sell my house, I get very anxious.

They will certainly help you sleep at night but they do leave you feeling groggy for the first few hours after waking up.
I find after getting up and being awake for an hour I want to doze again for a couple of hours.

do not take during the day, especially if you have to drive,well for me anyway I fell asleep at a train crossing waiting on it to go through, and it does at times cause dry mouth but not too bad,overall not bad at all. also awesome dreams!!!

how long would i have to have taken them for before the dry mouth would start. ive been taking them about 4/5 weeks but dont have one every night so some times its 4 or 5 nights out the 7 but for the last few days i wake with a very dry mouth and sometimes its on and off through the day

I am on 10mg of Amitriptyline and I have noticed I am increasing in my weight no matter how much I have tried to diet...I'm not losing any unlike I have in the past and the only thing that has changed for me or these tablets. What can I do about it ?

I have a 7 year old who weighs 40 pounds and the Dr has started him on Elavil 10 mg for migraines. He seems Very drowsy,falling aleep everywhere he goes. I give it to him around 8;00 pm and this morning he fell asleep in the car riders line. I'm concerned that he won't be able to function in school like this. Does anyone know if this can be cut in half to a 5 mg? I have reied to call his Dr but no response yet. Help!!
