Seroquel For Insomnia

Updated

I have been taking Seroquel for a year now for insomnia. Anybody else take Seroquel for this? I have looked around and it doesn't even seem that Seroquel is normally given to someone for this.

I also have been taking seroquel for insomnia for about a year and a half now. I must say, my Dr tried every sleeping pill out there on me. This is the only thing that has worked for me, I've never had a sleepless night since.

I was also being treated for panic attacks and depression at the time. But all my life I had trouble sleeping, I'm talking up till 5 or 6 am with a million things racing through my mind (stupid stuff) but not any more.

My doc told me that in low doses, it does work on some people for insomnia.

My son has OCD and was put on Seroquel for sleep. It's not made for that, but it is the side effect of the drug. It has helped tremendously. However it may be increasing his seizures at night, so we have to find out more about that. But in terms of sleep it helps. It also helped my sister sleep after her stroke. 17B1

seroquil is usually prescribed for various psychosis. It has many DANGEROUS side effects. I've found Ambien safe & effective when taken as prescribed.

While it is illegal in the U.S. for a drug company to market a drug for a nonapproved, off-label use, it is perfectly acceptable and common practice for doctor's to prescribe medications according to their experience of what it helps.

Since they incude somnolence and drowsiness, antipsychotics are quite often prescribed for people who suffer chronic insomnia who have not responded to other solutions.

I am a 37 year old and have had problems sleeping since I was 10. I have tried everything under the sun, my doctor put me on seroquel about three months ago, but i have mixed feelings about it. Sometimes it works fantastic and sometimes i'm up till 5 or 6 in the morning, but when i wake up i don't feel like a zombie like i did with ambien.

I just added G Monster Sleeping aid to my supplements Program; it has helped me sleep and has been helping me recover my muscles from the brutal training that I put on my self. It gives me a little buzz before bed and that is good for me because I do not drink, since alcohol weakens athletic performance.

6 Perfect meals a day

Work 6 hours a day; 7 days a week
Sleep 8 hours a day; 7 days a week
Train 6 hours a day; 5 days a week
1 heaping tablespoon of G Monster 30 minutes before bed.

Wake up: 2 tablespoons of Metamucil (this is to remove the bi-products and soreness from my body brutal training
Immediately drop a deuce, and then have first meal.

Late Morning
1.5 hours: Boxing; Muay Thai; Jui-Jitsu
30 minutes circuit weights
3 times a week; mixing it up every time
1 hour: stretch

Post meal replacement while sitting in an ice bath

Late After Noon
1 hour: Boxing; Muay Thai; Jui-Jitsu; Wrestling
90 Minutes: Bikram Yoga or Power Yoga or Gimnastics
30 minutes: stretch

Post meal replacements while sitting in an ice bath

30 Minutes before bed I take G Monster to help me sleep; when training like this, my body is tired but my mind does not want to shut off; I was sitting in bed thinking and thinking. G Monster has the ability to help me relax and get the REM sleep plus the GH response to rest and recover for my next brutal day ahead of me.

I have been on zopiclone for about 2 years. If I not tired thinking a lot, I will go to the kitchen and eat - anything. It's like I'm in a trance and next day I have to really think whether I had a eating binge the night before. I hate it but I'm a cronic insommiac, my mind races. Any suggestions or ideas. Thanks

I was put on Seroquel 25 mg last summer because I was not able to sleep without taking Immovane. Seroquel calmed my anxieties and helped me sleep. But by the end of the year, because of the stress from school, I was not sleeping again. I increased the dosage to 75 mg but it didn't help the insomnia. For the last 3 months, I have been taking Immovane to help me sleep. I am only getting 3-4 hours of sleep per night. Tonight I am trying Zeldox. Really hope it helps. I am really sleep deprived.

I've taken 100 mg of Seroquel one hour before bedtime for over 10 years and haven't had one sleepless night during that time. I wake up without drousiness and have experienced no side effects.

Hi...I've been an insomniac for about 10 years now. Dr. has tried EVERYTHING under the sun. He gave me Seroquel about 6 months ago and it worked great - he had given me samples and when I went to get them refilled, even with insurance it was going to cost me over $200.00 for 30 - 50mg. I also suffer from severe panic disorder so I take 5 klonopins a day. The seroquel has been the ONLY thing that has just put me to sleep quickly (and very relaxing). Went to Dr. today and told him just how expensive the Seroquel was and he wrote another prescript for generic Seroquel, not extended release. He gave me samples, but these are extented release 50mg. I've taken 1 about 2 hours ago, nothing. I took another half about an hour ago...nothing. Afraid to take the other half as I'm very scared of drugs I've not taken or had much experience with before. Normally, I would take, with a sleeping pill that didn't work well for me (i.e. ambien) about 4 to 5 benedryl. Afraid to take benedryl with Seroquel as I don't know what to expect or not expect. My husband doesn't understand insomnia (as he can lay down and be asleep in 2 minutes) and he snores so loudly. To sleep in the same bed with him, I have GOT to be very very sleepy, otherwise I sleep on the couch. He gets upset a little when I sleep on the couch and I try to explain to him that I have a hard enough time going to sleep, and with his snoring - it's literally impossible unless I'm drugged to the max with OTC Midnite and benedryl. So sick and tired of insomnia...and sick and tired of being tired all the time.

This is bad advice. Ambien has been proven to be highly addictive and not safe, it has more serious side effects than seroquel. People commonly report doing activities after taking ambien that they cannot remember like driving, acting very strange, and other risky behaviors. Seroquel does not do this. You take Seroquel. You get tired you go to sleep. Very simple. You take ambien, you get in your car and go for a drive like a drunken fool and possibly risk your life and the lives of others. Or act like a completely different person as if your black out drunk. Ambien is not the safer choice.

i take one (1) 150mg of seroquel, one (1) 12.5 mg ambien and two (2) 1mg xanax for insomnia when I feel dead tired and need to sleep which is often at 3, 4, 5 or 6am...I have had to experiment to get this combination to work...I don't think my Dr. would be to happy, but he isn't the one dealing with what used to be 6,7 or 8 nights in a row of no sleep....I watch my weight like a hawk. I normally weigh between 115-120 ibs and sometimes the weight creeps up 2-3 lbs so i go on a liquid regimine...it works for me. I'm a former dance instructor and extra weight makes me crazy and pissed off...so , for me adjusting what i eat is tantamount...my fiance wants to eat dinner between 5-6pm and I just can't eat that early.....during my dancing days i didn't get off of work till 8:30-9pm so I have always eaten late. If i HAVE to eat early, i can hardly eat even 1/2 of what is served....I drink a lot of Gatorade, OJ and apple juice....which definitely curbs MY appetite....I allow myself 1 Dr. Pepper a week and some popcorn, usually on saturday nite....buy Yopalit yogurt, it's 80-100 calories, low in fat and very tastey....I also walk at least 1 mile a day, if I don't , I don't eat as much...I drink to fill up, try drinking a full glass of ICE COLD water b4 you eat and it will help fill you up, I don't really like water so I buy fresh lemons ans squeeze lemn juice in the water, when I eat out i always order water with lemon, yu can save a couple of hundred calories that way....I weigh every morning and the # on the scale dictates to me how I am going to have to adjust my eating for the day....I refuse to gain weight, I hate to look in the mirror if i'm even 3-5lbs over my ideal weight....hope this helps.....

Finally I've found someone who agrees that Zopiclone give you the craving for any food. With me I end up eating cholcolate which then keeps me awake all night. I've today found some Seroquel that I used a few years ago and will try tonight. I never sleep and sot watching trash TV and news all night every night and finally get to sleep around 7am and then sleep til around 1PM. My life is a nightmare.

SEROQUEL WILL CAUSE FAST AND FURIOUS WEIGHT GAIN. Be careful taking this medication...I have NEVER had a weight problem. My dr. prescribed Serokill (that's what I call it) @ 150mg per night, but I have to add 1 (one) Ambien and two (2) 1mg Valium....well it worked for a while....then it seemed like over night I had gained 10lbs. I took this drug back 15 years ago or more and remember that weight gain was the reason I stopped using this med. Well, I went on a vacay for about 5 days got home and forgot where I had stashed my meds. So I was off of Serokill for 2 weeks and dropped the weight instantly, but no sleep...none, you know what I mean. Anyway, I found my hiding place (my bad) and started taking it again....WHAM I have gained almost 12-15lbs. I am beside myself....so I quit taking it for a couple of days, no sleep, but maybe a nap on 5mg of Valium...I started spinning out because of no sleep, you know that weird feeling, your body is fatigued and it seems like maybe blood pressure is increasing and I'll get a terrible headache over my left eye.... I look awful in the mirror, won't even let my husband see me in anything except clothes, I have been complaining about the weight gain and he hasn't said much, but I know he is freaked out too because he doesn't respond when I talk about how fat and ugly I feel.....I got so mad last night because I was so tired that I took too much and was like a zombie all day, impatient, angry about any and eveything because I don't want to eat anything and I am just plain PO'ed ...I had called in to the Dr. office to tell them Seroquel was making me gain weight, and we needed to find something else, and my Dr. wants to wean me off of it, _uck, I don't need to be weaned... I can just stop and have before. I can't begin to list the # of meds we've tried that work, but only for a short time...Told his nurse I was totally depressed and what use is this drug if it depresses a person already taking anti-depressants. I hope you don't have these side effects.

OMG don’t.
Taking atypical antipsychotics when you are not schizophrenic can cause delusions.
My mother was bipolar and they gave this to her for anxiety and insomnia. 10 years later they had her on Risperidol shots because of the psychosis. Now she is dead.
Stay away from antipsychotics unless you are psychotic. Even then, you have to evaluate if the benefits are worth the risk.

It's not a good drug for insomnia TRUST ME! You'll get hooked. It IS addictive, chemically it contains ethanol in it's molecular structure.

I am withdrawing from the stuff after stupidly taking it to help me fight alcohol and for the old excuse to get sleepy. It will do your head in

Re: Rebecca B (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

I have always had sleep issues and can remember getting a whipping at 5 for "being up all night". They put me on Seroquel and Trazodone for sleep around 20 years ago. I found myself hurting, and tired in the morning. I found out why, when my now husband moved in with me. I was up walking around and eating all night. The doctors kept increasing the dosage until they had me at 300mg's of seroquel and 200 of Trazodone. I'd take on Klonipin and lay down 20 minutes later and be asleep in 10 minutes. Wake up after 3 to 45 minutes and not be able to get back to sleep or lay down. I had terrible problems with feeling like I had an abundance of "high energy" and like I wanted to crawl out of my own skin. I found out this is a side effect of the seroquel. I also had an increased problem with pychosis due to lack of REM sleep. 5 years ago medical cannabis became legal, and I've used that to help with sleep. I have gradually cut down on the Rx's and increased the bedtime edibles. I'm getting lots of REM, I'm staying in bed. I'm not raiding the fridge, so I've lost 30 lbs. The weight loss has really helped decrease my back pain from the spinal surgery. If I had it to do again, I'd stay away from the anti-depressants, and , if in a legal state, use cannabis. Also, no one has every died from cannabis. OD on the seroquel, or your child gets ahold of them, there isn't anything they can do for you, but make funeral arrangements.

Hi,
For me, weight gain was the biggest issue. To the point that it has made my depression 10x worse. I was put on Quetiapine 25mg to help me sleep and to aid my mood. I developed a serious case of the munchies, as I did with various other pills like Endronax, Avanza, Stilnox, was terrible stuff for me. I think those might have been the main ones..and Tradazone. I BLEW UP in the last two years from 63kg to 118kg. There are no words. If I was depressed and an insomniac before. I and so much worse now. I literally do not know who I am. Don't leave the house. Don't go anywhere for embarrassment. Find it impossible to diet. I'm just devastated. In USA that would be a whopping 259.6 pounds. Happy Days. But we are all different.

Can anyone offer encouragement for getting off seroquel? I'm currently down to 100mg and doing fine with my goal to totally get off (with phy's help) exchanging this RX with one that doesn't cause the "knock out" effect. I'm so scared about not sleeping.

Hi Josie,

I am so glad that Seroquel works for you. I have been taking Seroquel for 8 years, I am Bipolar 1, so needless to say I was only sleeping 3-4 hours per night. I went in hospital and came out taking 400 mgs. for about two weeks. I cut back to 20 mgs, after speaking to my Dr. Now I have gone down to 25 mgs. I have the most wonderful nights sleep at 9 hours. I am very thankful for Seroquel! Best of luck to you!
