I think the drug you are talking about is Suboxone - that is exactly what it's used for...
That's also my best guess and to add some more information on it…
Suboxone contains the active ingredients Buprenorphine and Naloxone, the first is a potent narcotic that's used to treat the withdrawals from the drug(s) of choice that were being abused and the latter is to prevent the abuse of other narcotics, while being under treatment with it.
It can only be taken once someone is already in full withdrawal, since if it's taken too soon the Naloxone may throw someone into dangerous withdrawals and it must be carefully tapered over time to allow someone to become drug free.
