Respidol Side Effects

50 yr old male taking residol and other meds. began getting a forward backward spasm like a whip lash movement dr. appt. on monday could it be a bad reaction to respidol?

Just to double check ... I think you mean Risperdal ?

If so, muscle stiffness and pain are listed as possible side effects of this medication. So based on what you are reporting, it certainly sounds like a possibility. It is definitely good that you are going to see a doc on Monday.

I just started taking repidal and my nipples are starting to get pretty sore. Is this normal? Please email me your responce, I doubt I'll be back on this to check.

Hi Tiffany - what you are reporting is listed as a normal side effect... "Occasionally breast tenderness and eventually lactation in both sexes may occur" [1] So it is always a good idea to keep your doctor in the loop with any side effects which you're experiencing. My 76 year old fauther was put on risperdal. The doctors told me it was for depression, to help him sleep and to try and stimulate his appetite. Is this an appropriate medication?

Ray - it sounds like a more off-label use as far as the depression is concerned. It is pretty common for Risperdal to be prescribed for bipolar disorder, so it might help level him out if he goes through manic states. Additionally this drug has been known to cause weight gain.

At this point it sounds like the doctor made an informed decision, so it's a matter of monitoring your father's condition and reporting any changes or side effects back to them.
