Reclast Info Please

Updated

I would like to know if there is a blog on osteoporosis in which someone out there has taken Reclast. My Dr. is wanting me to begin this iv injection. I took 2 year injections of Forteo and now the DR. wants me to begin this. I need to know as much as possible about this drug

I too have to take the injections every day for two years. They claim this will REBUILD my bones, and this is what I need. It is suppose to reverse bone loss and damage. I am on my 3rd month. It does not hurt if you put it in your thigh. The stomache sorta stings. Good luck

Reclast is a great option! I'll tell you why:
Reclast reduces the risk of fracture at the three key fracture sites: Spine (most common type of osteoporotic fracture), hip fracture (most deadly), and non-spine (ribs, toes, wrist). The pills like Actonel, Boniva, and Fosamax don't have proven practure reduction at all three of those sites. Boniva only does spine (imagine if Sally Fields broke a hip!), and Actonel only does spine and hip.
Also, Reclast is convenient! One time a year and you're done! With Actonel, Fosamax, or Boniva you need to remember to take it once a day, once a week, or once per month! Plus you can't eat or drink anything for an hour or two after you take the pill and you need to remain sitting upright! Talk about inconvenient!
ALSO, those pills will cost you a co-pay at the pharmacy of $25 each month! (12X$25=$300 a year, no thanks!). Reclast is covered under Medicare without a prior-authorization or a failure on a pill first. On average Reclast costs Medicare patients an average of $27 just one time a year! ($27 for Reclast vs. $300 for a pill? I'll take Reclast please!). Commercial insurance patients (those under 65) will pay about $100 a year, but still that's less than $300!
So, let's recap. Reclast has better fracture reduction, rebuilds bone, is more convenient, costs less, and doesn't come with all of the nasty GI side effects like nausea, gerd, vomiting that you get with the pills. If I were you I would go to my doctor and insist on Reclast first, before trying one of those pills.
