Prozac Made Me Super Angry

I was on Prozac to treat depression for about 10 months. The first weeks I felt euphoric. It seemed like all the problems magically disappeared and life was amazing again. I met somebody and we started dating. Then a few month later, I found myself getting angry with everything and everyone for little things, things that normally would make me shrug. Then the aggression (not physical by any means) started affecting my relationship. But still, I could not figure out what it was. I thought - back then - then there was nothing wrong with me and I had the reasons to act to certain situations the was I did. My relationship ended. I was not happy but I was not super upset either, although I knew that he was mr right. I went on a long vacation and the very first day I flushed all the remaining pills down the toilet. I knew it was too drastic, but Prozac CHANGED ME. I'd never ever in a million years acted the way I did. I'm the most peaceful and down to earth person but yet I would scream at people or start a fight just because. A week after I stopped taking Prozac everything came back to normal. Also, I have never seen my psychiatrist again. I try to find balance in my life without taking meds. I've been good at it for over 2 years now. I know, that everybody is different, but make sure you don't let the pills control/ change you.

This has been known to happen, in some people that try Prozac/Fluoxetine, as well as with other antidepressants.

There are FDA warnings about it, that instruct one to watch for such issues, and if they experience them to stop taking it, and contact your doctor immediately. In some cases, they have also caused suicidal ideation, and actual suicide attempts.

Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes.

I take it every day for anxiety, and other issues related to perimenopause, and it works great for me. However, I had similar issues when I tried Sertraline, again, after having been off of it for a few years.

I'm glad you are doing so well without it. Are you on any other medications?

I wanted to add a note of caution, since there is a risk of seizures, if someone has been taking it for a long period of time, and suddenly stops taking it cold turkey.

So, if anyone is taking a high amount, please consult your doctor for a proper tapering schedule, rather than just stopping it.
