My mother is in ICU as well and she is on a propolol drip. It is used for persons who are intubated and allows for assisted ventilation without a decrease in cardiac output. The downside is that there is an associated drop in blood pressure when the propolol is increased. Generally the drug seems to be used for such anesthctic purposes in ICU when patients need to be calm and passive. Hope this helps, and that your father is better.

My wife sufers the Crest Syndrome for more than ten years. Hes condition is stable. The worst part is the accumulation of calcium in her fingers. It is painful all the time. Is there anything that she could do in order to improve the pain. Thank you.

Josue, I'm sorry, this site doesn't have any medical professionals on this site and no one, even if they were one, could possibly suggest something without knowing her full medical history and all the other medications she may be on.

Have you tried consulting her doctor about this?

I came here looking for information on PROPOLOL not PROPOFOL and it seems the answers that were given to the original poster were in regards to PROPOFOL which is a sedative give to patients who are typically intubated. It is a nice way of referring to a "medically induced coma". Now, my husband who was given PROPOFOL in the ICU was given a prescription for a liquid form of PROPOLOL and I wanted to know what it is for. Nobody has answered the question yet, so I will look elsewhere, but I thought that I would help everyone out by showing that there are 2 different drugs being asked about here, and I believe that the original poster misspelled it and said propolol and the first answer also described what propofol was used for, but also referred to it as propofol...
