Precription Pain Pill Abuse

I have stumbled across a sever abuser who is not only breaking the law but endangering lives and I need help to know what to do.

If they are receiving medications via prescription from a doctor and you know who their doctor is, you can inform them of the problem. They cannot talk to you about the person's medical information under current HIPAA law, but they can listen to you and then handle it, if they feel it's necessary.

Or you can report it to the police and let them handle the problem.

Alternatively, you could also encourage the person to get help for their addiction problem.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

The FDA warns that many pain medications carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

Hi, thanks for the response. However after checking another of my sources, I believe I have the answer that I will choose. In light of the simple fact that if this abuser has done this to me, it is very likely they have done this to others. I really have no option but to assume so because this is a horrible thing to do to someone in chronic/severe pain under the guise of "friendship". So after consulting a therapist at the local mental health office, this is what we determined I should....report the facts to the local Adult Protective Services. This is precisely what I am going to do and I sure they do the proper follow up. Thanks you guys for being here, Think this is a wonderful site for helping people.

Hi, thanks again for your response. In the interim, I have found another abuser. This guy I have for "just a friend" has an ex girl friend who is a severe alcoholic. She quizzed me about my doctor and would he give her pain for level 10 pain. I told her probably but she would have to "jump through some hoops" first. Explained how doctors have to be really careful and gave her recommendations on how to get the pain pills from my doctor. At the end of the conversation, she sighed and said..."oh good, I need to sell them because I really need the money." What the HELL is wrong with these people. It is horrible what they are doing to honest pain sufferers. It really upsets me when I hear something like this and feel so helpless....
